Advken Owl Pro Tank Review

Advken Owl Pro Tank Review

A number of companies have been on a bit of a roll this year, with several top tier product releases, and Advken is no different. They’ve released a bunch of Pod devices like the Potento v2, Orcas Pod and Potento X, as well as RDA’s, tanks and RTA’s, such as the Madhatter RTA and Barra Tank. They released the original Owl Tank back in late 2018, which saw a 4ml eliquid capacity, cyclops style adjustable airflow and Baby Beast compatible mesh coil system.

Fast forward to now, and Advken have released the follow-up to the Owl Tank, the Owl Pro Tank, and to be honest, they’ve done a wonderful job in sorting out some of the things that let the first one down.

Let’s check out Advken’s Owl Pro tank!

Big thanks goes to Vaporstate, who sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info & Features

To be fair, the Owl Pro tank kind of rides on the base of the original Owl tank as far as internal airflow structure is concerned with the two large channels running down each side of the inside of the tank to provide airflow to the coil, but Advken have also improved on the rest of the tank in many ways, aesthetically and functionally.
Gone is the sliding top cap for filling and in it’s place a bayonet 1/2 turn fill cap. They’ve done away with the screw in style coils too, in favour of push in’s making coil changes a lot easier, and in turn how the entire tank screws together is a little more refined, and not relying on the coil as the integral threading.

What we end up with is a decently sized, chunky little tank with a 5ml capacity, excellent top airflow adjustment, zero leaking, pretty good flavour, and a new coil system with their DC coil series. Probably the perfect tank for those who prefer top airflow (no leakage) and a medium to high wattage (40-80 Watts).

The Base and Coils

Taking a closer look at the base and coils, you’ll notice the new DC series coils are in fact push in’s. They’ve got an o-ring on each end to ensure eliquid is sealed onto the middle section, avoiding any leakage above or below. Using push in coils also alleviates some of the frustration of the original, with needing to screw in the coil, which could be tough on the fingers due to how tight you’d have to tighten it down.
Now, it’s only a push in coil method and pushing these coils in is super smooth.

One thing I really love about the construction of this tank, is that Advken have measured out the machining in a way, that you simply cannot overtighten. Some tanks allow you to overtighten and potentially crack the glass if tightened too much. Not this one. More or less, the Owl pro relies on the orings to hold that glass section in place, and if you try hard enough you can even turn the glass when the tank is completely assembled. (Dont fret, there is no leakage, because the orings actually do their job really well.)

You’ll get two types of coils in the box:

  • 0.2ohm Mesh DC coil
This coil is good for 70 – 80 watts and is your powerhouse for DTL vaping, providing better flavour, but smashing through the juice just as you’d expect it to.
  • 0.4ohm Mesh DC coil
This is a more conservative coil, allowing vaping between 50-60 Watts, and while this does still chew through the juice a little, I’ve found it best vaping at “up to” 50 Watts, which not only increases the coil life but provides a more saturated vaping experience.

Filling

Advken have done away with the slide to fill mechanism of the original Owl tank and swapped it out for a 1/2 turn bayonet style top cap. An excellent decision, and I can’t fault it, well, besides being a little tight to undo at times.
The bayonet top cap creates a truly leak/air tight seal and ensures you don’t lose the pressure in the tank.
With a silicone seal on the cap itself, those two large kidney shaped fill ports are sealed up good and proper with no risk of leakage at all.

Airflow

The airflow of the Owl Pro is similar to the original, two large cyclops style airflow slots appear above the glass on 2 sides of the tank, with a rotating airflow adjustment ring over the top of them, allowing you to adjust your airflow from closed down tight, to completely open. It does this fairly well, although I have noticed that when the airflow is closed, you still get air coming through, so there isn’t a completely air tight seal on the airflow ring. Unfortunately this will affect you mouth to lung users, but then again, if you’re a mouth to lung vaper, this tank is likely not even going to be on your radar considering it’s a higher wattage tank. Does that make the air seepage acceptable? Probably.

One positive addition on the airflow of the Owl Pro is the stopper they’ve included on the airflow ring mechanism. Where the original had none, now there is a stopper in each direction, letting you know when your airflow is either completely open or completely closed.

Just like the original, air comes in via the top cyclops airflow holes, travels down on of the flat channels that can be found on either side on the inside of the glass, and under the coil to provide bottom airflow flavour, with top airflow leak-free vaping.

Any Leaks?

Nope, none. This is a top airflow tank after all. I’ve not even seen any condensation inside the base when pulling it apart.

Pros:

  • Leak free vaping
  • Good flavour
  • Great eliquid capacity
  • Airflow adjustment is great
  • Top 1/2 turn bayonet fill cap
  • x2 glass options

Cons:

  • Top cap can be a little tight.

Where to Buy:

As always, with Advken gear, our friends at Vaporstate Australia provided the sample for us to review, and they are the regional partner with Advken, so you can find all of Advken’s products through them. Vaporstate have the Owl Pro Tank listed for the $55 AUD price point, a nice price for pretty great tank that’s for sure!

Conclusion

I’ve actually been pretty impressed by the Owl Pro. It’s been a consistently excellent vape, and something that you can easily just pick up and head out of the house with, knowing that it’s going to give you great vape every time.
It’s easy to fill, easy to change coils, runs at a decent wattage, and has excellent fairly open airflow.

I particularly like the lack of needing to tighten the base up with a pair of plyers, and that it has a limit on the threads. This means that it tightens up easily, and caps how far you can screw the base on, not leaving you guessing at which turn you might crack your glass. The seals on both ends are incredibly efficient, and I have not seen any seepage or wear of the o-rings at all in the 3 weeks I’ve been using them.

(I’ve also dropped this several times by accident from hip height and the glass is showing no signs of cracking, even though it’s landed on it’s side every time!)

The vape from the Owl Pro is quite good, I get plenty of dense vapour, and the flavour is pretty good. It doesn’t exactly knock some of the better flavoured tanks off of the top of the list, but it does a decent job of pushing out the top end of the flavour you’re vaping. I’ve found that the flavour is not as deep or dynamic as it could be, but it does do a much better job than the original.

Excellent work on this one Advken. I’ve been chugging on this merrily for over 3 weeks now with no issues at all.
