Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA Review

Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA Review

Welcome back gang! Hellvape are at it again, they’ve been quite busy over the last 12 months, pumping out their upgraded Dead Rabbit series of RDA’s and RTA’s to my delight of course, I love their gear 🙂

In today’s review, we’re taking a look at their latest RTA, the third in the Dead Rabbit RTA series in fact! This time around we’re treated with leak free top airflow, dual coil capability, and a completely new deck to try!

Let’s check out Hellvape’s Dead Rabbit 3 RTA!

Big thanks goes to Vaporstate, who sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info

As always, with Hellvape its all about quality, and this full stainless steel, pyrex and delrin combo is nothing short of a quality build. Coming in at 25mm in diameter with a total 50.5mm tall, this is no Fat Rabbit, or Dead Rabbit Max, but it does offer us some decent capacity with 3.5ml of e-liquid capacity, and 5.5ml with the provided bubble glass.

The Dead Rabbit 3 RTA is a leak-free top airflow, dual coil, tank. There are plenty of bells and whistles if you’re serious about your gear, with adjustable airflow, an easy to build, postless deck, large accessible fill ports, and a delrin 810 drip tip. You’ve got 8 different colour combinations to choose from, and you get plenty of extras in the box too, including a set of 0.37ohm Ni80 Clapton coils, some shoelace cotton, coil cutting tool, spare orings, and spare bubble glass.

The Base/Deck

Hellvape have changed things up for this iteration of the Dead Rabbit RTA. Instead of going with their previously used “rabbit ears” deck design, they’ve opted for a post-less deck. And this is quite a clever design too, the deck is flat with a “shield” on either side that directs air across the coils, as well as from up and under, to provide maximum flavour.
These two shields line up directly with the airflow ports in the upper tank chamber making sure that air that comes in from the top airflow controller, pushes up under and across the coils.
As you can see from the photos above, there is also a small juice inlet at each side of the upper tank, that allows e-liquid to soak into the wicking that normally comes down the side of the block. Interesting design, and this works really well.

Top Cap

The top of the tank consists of the main pyrex glass, upper chimney, fill ports and drip tip.
You get an extra 5.5ml capacity bubble glass in the box, which is always a nice addition.
There’s a Delrin 810 friction fit drip tip up top, with a bayonet style cap covering the large fill ports up top.
There’s not really a lot more to write about with the rest of it, the design of most is based from previous DR RTA iterations, with the exception of the airflow which I’ll describe below.

Airflow

I’ve mentioned the air inlets on the side of the main tank chamber that line up directly with the airflow of the deck, but what I haven’t mentioned is the wonderfully smooth airflow control provided by the adjustment ring at the top. There are 7 diagonally slotted airflow holes on each side of the tank, allowing plenty of options for airflow, from all the way open to a tightly restricted draw, should you want one. The airflow control is smooth as silk, and holds firmly, so that you don’t accidently adjust it too often.

Filling

Unscrew the bayonet style connection and fill from the two kidney shaped fill ports on top of the tank.

Building

Building on the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA, is super easy. While there’s not a heap of room on deck once you’ve got two coils in there between the ‘shields’, because it’s post-less with the mounting screws on the base of the block, its easy to manouvre and get that build in there perfect.

As you can see, I haven’t done anything differently than I normally would when building on an RTA or even RDA for that matter. The coils provided are similar to what I would normally use, and the amount of cotton I’ve pushed through the coils is the same as always too.

Being a postless deck, you’ll need to snip your coil legs first before placing, which is made super easy with the tool that Hellvape have included in the box.

Any Leaks?

Nope not one. And I don’t expect any with the RTA having top airflow.

Pros:

  • Nice smooth airflow
  • Great looking tank
  • Excellent capacity
  • Top airflow / Zero leakage
  • Easy to build on
  • Additional bubble glass included

Cons:

  • N/A

Where to Buy:

As always with Hellvape’s stuff, you can pick the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA up through their Australian partner, Vaporstate when they get some stock in.
Vaporstate wil lhave the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA for $55 AU , which is a pretty good price for what you get. Go check them out now.

Conclusion

I’ve found the Dead Rabbit 3 RTA to be a pretty tidy little unit. When you struggle to find anything bad to say, then you know you’re onto a pretty good thing, and I really have nothing to complain about here.
It has some pretty decent capacity with it’s stock 3.5ml glass and additional 5.5ml bubble glass, excellent and smooth top airflow, a clean and easy to build on post-less deck, and it looks the part with a minimalist look.

This one is a great all round dual coil tank, doesn’t skip a beat! Great work Hellvape!
