Advken Mad Hatter RTA Review

Advken Mad Hatter RTA Review

Welcome back! Few products, even in the vaping world, get to enjoy being world known, their product being so well adopted, or the features so unique that they become somewhat legend.

Advken’s Mad Hatter RDA was that legend, it was so widely adopted, and renowned for being a no-nonsense RDA, famous for it’s flip cap, and velocity style build deck and posts, it was super easy to build on, and looked great too. Since the original, they’ve released a V2 as well as a tube mod, and also an RDTA all sharing in the popularity of their namesake.

Today’s review is of a tank that is the latest of the Mad Hatter series, let’s see how it stacks up, does it live up to the legend? Will it be known for years to come?

Let’s check out Advken’s new Madhatter RTA!

Big thanks goes to Advken and Vaporstate, who sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info

The first thing that jumps out at you with this RTA is exactly how small it is! Falling in at only 24 x 29mm (minus drip tip) is really quite small. It’s a short little stubby tank designed to sit flush with all 24mm mech tubes, for those who love their mechs, but hate to drip!

You can see the Madhatter RTA on top of the MadHatter V2 tube mod in my photos above, such a lovely combo, and it look sexy as!

The new Mad Hatter RTA is built from Aluminium Alloy to make the tank not only light as possible but strong as well. This helps when used on a mechanical tube device, making sure things aren’t too top heavy and remain nicely balanced.

Continuing on with the ‘small’ theme, the e-liquid capacity here isn’t huge, at only 2ml e-liquid capacity, you’ll be filling more often than other tanks, but that’s also a bit of a trade off due to the size and how lightweight it is.
(In all honesty I think it’s a little over 2ml, it definitely feels like its over that amount)

The Mad Hatter RTA also boasts top slide fill design, and 810 sized drip tip so you can use your favourite custom tips, a bottom single cyclops style adjustable airflow port, as well as a single side, single coil build deck.

As for aesthetics, you’ll notice that it’s of quite a striking design. This tank does look the goods, and is a smart looker.
It’s ribbed for your pleasure, with some classic knurling at the top and also the bottom of the tank, allowing you to get a good grip on it when unscrewing the pieces, or simply adjusting airflow. The glass is clearly custom blown that not only keeps the flow of the tank’s design going but also adds a touch of styling itself with the upper section bubbling into a smaller diameter than the base.

This tank looks absolutely fantastic on almost any device you choose to put it on, but a black mech tube? Yep that’s where it belongs! More on that later.

The Deck & the Rest

The deck is quite an interesting design. It’s a two post design, with both posts being on the same side, with an airflow direction block on the other side.

Because the posts are on the same side, you’ll need to make sure both of your coil legs are sitting out straight rather than in opposite directions, which also allows for a little more control and less movement of the coil when you tighten the hex head screws down. The split posts are nice and solid, and I haven’t had any issues with them at all. There is also a tonne of space under these post screws too, so you can fit some pretty big builds in there if you want to. (Obviously too thick of a coil or large diameter won’t work due to the airflow block on the other side.

The airflow block is pretty cool, it comes up and almost over the coil, like a wave, allowing air to come in at a few different angles. If you remember the Blotto RTA’s airflow block, this is similar, a little wider, with only one side covered.

There are 3 slots at the base of the deck, as well as a bunch of holes coming in from the side that allow a more broken up stream of air to hit your coils. This avoids any annoying whistles and makes for a nice full dense vapour full of fantastic flavour.

Speaking of airflow, the chamber of the internal tank is quite small, it’s not domed like many claimed flavour chaser tanks are, but it is condensed with a flatter chamber, this helps the airflow through past the coil appropriately, and ensure you’re getting a really flavourful vape.

Building on this tank, as you can see from the photos above, is an absolute breeze. There was no coil included in the box, so I had to guess the appropriate coil to use. *Hint: pick a single coil that is 3mm diameter or under and will ramp up nicely on a mech and you’ll be fine.*
If you purchase from Vaporstate in Australia, they’ll include some coils for you though, the champions that they are!

The most difficult thing about it is that there is little room to snip the coil legs off closer to the posts, but a little snip and bending the rest upward works well.

Wicking is pretty simple and forgiving. I used a 3mm coil and appropriately fluffed cotton for the wicking, which fills the wicking holes just enough to avoid any flooding. The juice flow through this tank is not as quick as some, and as a result of this you may need to thin your cotton a little to get it to wick for any wattage higher than a normal mechanical mod might push out.

Airflow

The airflow adjustment is done via the airflow ring at the bottom of the tank. It’s nicely knurled so that you can get a good grip on it, and has a single cyclops style airflow slot in it. The adjustment ring moves nicely, with a little restriction to stop it moving on it’s own, but it’s still smooth and easy to adjust.

If I were to describe the airflow level that this tank pushes out, I’d say it’s a restricted Direct to Lung, not overly airy, but also not tightly restricted either.

Filling

Filling is super simple, the top section of the tank slides across to reveal a nice sized fill hole. The edges are a little deep, so pushing your eliquid nozzle in isn’t the most comfortable but it can be done. I’ve been pushing the nozzle in close to the end of the hole to allow room for any air to back out of the tank while filling.

I would have liked to have seen a screw down cap rather than a slider, but that’s just personal preference. You can also fill this tank to 100% full fairly easily too, so that’s a win!

About the only gripe I have with filling the Madhatter RTA is the amount of e-liquid that it holds. I would have liked to have seen at least 3.5mls instead of the 2ml. Although it does feel like it holds a little more than 2ml when filling.

Any Leaks?

I haven’t noticed any leaks particularly. There were a few instances where I had some e-liquid leaking through the airhole, but that was due to myself thinning my wicks out a little too much. Subsequent fills with a new wick have not been an issue, and I’ve been able to leave the tank filled for full days without any leaking happening.

Pros:

  • Small size
  • Excellent flavour
  • Excellent build quality
  • Great looking tank
  • Perfect match for 24mm mech tube
  • Easy to build on
  • Easy to wick

Cons:

  • Small e-liquid capacity
  • Slide top cap to fill ( I prefer screw down )
  • Doesn’t ship with a coil (but Vaporstate include some for you when you purchase!)

Where to Buy:

The Advken Madhatter RTA can be purchased directly through Advken, or if you’re in Australia, or happy to have products shipped from Australia, Vaporstate have them in for about $50 AUD.

Vaporstate also have a really cool deal on at the moment, where you can purchase the Full Mad Hatter Tube Mech RTA Kit, it’s not just the Madhatter RTA, but also the Madhatter v2 Tube mod in one bundle for only $75 AUD.

To sweeten up the deal even more, Vaporstate are secretly including the Ayana RDA too! That’s an RDA + RTA + Tube for only $75 AUD!
Now that’s a steal!

Remember this deal is only available in Australia from Vaporstate, and there are only 100 sets of these, so you gotta get moving if you want to snap one up!

Conclusion

This really is the ultimate ‘Tube Tank’. If ever there was a tank that just looks perfect on a tube mod, its the Advken Mad Hatter RTA. Not only that, but it also runs like a dream, and is lightweight enough not to tip the balance to top heavy too much.

I love the size of it which ultimately makes the e-liquid capacity suffer a little but it’s definitely a lot less labour intensive than dripping which is a big win for me.

Great dense vapour, lovely flavour, a well designed, single coil tank that is not only easy to build on but easy to maintain.

The Advken Mad Hatter may not ‘look’ much like the original Mad Hatter RDA but it’s definitely carrying the moniker well, being such a banging little RTA!

Excellent work Advken! And top notch service from Vaporstate on that Full Madhatter tube + RTA + RDA bundle too!
