Wotofo Troll X RTA Review

Wotofo Troll X RTA Review

Wotofo are one of my favourite brands, they’re always innovating, and always seem to come up with interesting designs for their devices, and products. If you’ve been around the vaping world a while, you’ll likely know of their flagship ‘Profile’ range, that consists of RDA’s, RTA’s, and RDTA. Well before all of that, they had a range that took the vaping world by storm. It was a bit of a joke of sorts, but the great vape and solid construction of Wotofo’s “Troll” series became a household name.

Fast forward to now, and Wotofo have released their latest product in the “Troll” range, an RTA!

Let’s check out Wotofo’s Troll X RTA!

Big thanks goes to Wotofo, who sent this out for the purposes of review, and of course for their continued support!

General Info

The Troll X is a welcome addition to the Troll family, it looks great, has a decent e-liquid capacity, adjustable airflow, allows multiple coil configurations, and comes with some different air inserts so you can get the style of airflow that you love.

Made from strong Stainless Steel with Pyrex glass inserts, the Troll X is quite a small tank for a rebuildable RTA. It measures in at 24mm in diameter so it’ll look great on a lot of your tube mods, as well as not overshadow your box devices. It is 36mm in height too so not overly large, even with the bubble glass which gives it a 4.4ml juice capacity.

The main standout feature for the Troll X is the innovative airflow insert that sits in the deck, giving you the choice between a slightly turbulent yet even and condensed airflow with the honeycomb styled insert, and a straight up hit to the tickles with the slotted insert that allows a much more direct to coil rush of air. These inserts slide in and hold down with clips so that even when you have a build in there, they are swappable.

The Troll X also features a slide to fill top cap, for easy filling, a multi-slotted airflow adjustment ring, allowing air to not just rush in on the one huge cyclops airflow, but breaks it up a little for more control, and a deck configuration that allows you to easily use a single coil or dual coils if you so prefer.

It’s a pretty versatile tank really, but what else would you expect from Wotofo!

The Deck and Build

I really like this post-less deck, it’s very easy to build on and there is a heap of room. It just feels like you’re fiddling around a lot less than with other decks. If you look closely at the pictures above, you can see that airflow comes from directly beneath the coil, where the small inserts sit, it’s the perfect position for air to push against and around your coils and it does produce some fantastic flavour. On each side of the centre airflow, are two post-less coil clamps configured in on entire side being negative and the other positive, what this means is you’ll be able to not only use both single and dual coils, but it also does not matter which way around your coil legs are using a single coil.

The clamps holes are quite large, and the hex screws that hold your coils legs in are quite strong, I haven’t experienced any issues with the hex head slipping or issues with over tightening.

Also on each side, beyond the coil clamps are of course the eliquid or wicking holes. These are some pretty large kidney shaped wicking ports, that will allow you quite a lot of wicking material. This is excellent, larger holes, better wicking = less chance of a dry hit!

Building on the Wotofo Troll X deck is a breeze. Simply trim your coil legs using the provided tool, insert them into the postless deck, and tighten down. Position your coils, dry fire, and then wick.

You’ll find the wicking quite forgiving too, and you really can push a lot of cotton through those wicking ports without getting any issues with dry hits.

Too easy!

Filling

Filling is made simple with Wotofo’s sliding top cap. I absolutely hate these, and would prefer a screw down cap, but it works, and makes filling pretty quick. Slide the cap aside, push your e-liquid nozzle into the membrane and fill. It really is that simple. Filling is quick also, because Wotofo have provided an air pressure release hole in the back of the fill cap too, as you can see in the photo above.

The sliding mechanism can also be completely unscrewed for cleaning if you need to also.

Airflow

I’m not convinced that the separated slotted airflow at the bottom does a lot, considering that the airflow inserts in the deck likely do most of the air separation/condensing. It does allow a nice smooth and stepped approach to adjusting the airflow and avoids the airflow ring holes misaligning and causing whistles, so in that regard I think it’s a good idea.

The adjustable airflow ring has a little resistance and won’t move around on it’s own, yet is still easily adjusted even for minor increments. I quite like that pattern on the adjustment ring too, I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like that before, and it matches the knurling on the inner chamber and top cap.

Any Leaks?

None during normal operation.

However after a while I ended up with a torn silicone piece in the fill cap, which resulted in complete pressure loss of the tank, rendering it unusable unless I liked to have constant leaking from the tank not being able to keep a pressure lock on the liquid.

Providing an extra silicone/rubber fill membrane would have gotten me out of trouble, unfortunately there was no spare in the box.

Pros:

  • Great Flavour
  • Easy to use
  • Roomy Post-less deck
  • Included coils
  • Easy to fill
  • Excellent airflow options

Cons:

  • Eliquid capacity could be bigger
  • Slide to fill is not my preference
  • Needs a spare silicone fill seal put in the box

Where to Buy:

You can pick the Wotofo Troll X RTA up directly through the Wotofo Online Store for approximately $37.95 USD, which is actually pretty amazing value for an RTA!

Conclusion

All in all, this is quite a good tank, it has some excellent flavour, and is a good solid vape. I really like Wotofo’s airflow insert idea, it is a little difficult to change them with a build already in there, but it can be managed, and having that extra option is brilliant. Between those inserts, the slotted adjustable airflow ring and coil positioning, you really can dial in that perfect vape.

I did have some trouble with the silicone fill membrane splitting on me, which led to an issue where the tank would not hold e-liquid, so a spare one of those would have been handy, but other-wise I’ve had zero issues with the Troll X RTA and it’s been a very reliable tank.

The Troll X is a great looking tank, with all of the must-haves, and even some extras that you might not expect. (Big thankyou for putting a coil leg measurement tool in the box!)

It’s really easy to build on, has plenty of options to really dial in that perfect airflow, and of course provides a lovely flavourful dense vape.

Great work Wotofo!
