Vapefly Siegfried Kit Review

Vapefly Siegfried Kit Review

So far this year, I’ve looked at a tonne of different vape devices, Pods, RDA’s, RTA’s, dual battery devices, single battery devices and more, but I definitely have not reviewed a mesh RTA on top of a regulated tube mod!

We’re going to change that right now!
Read on below to see the Vapefly Siegfried kit in action!

Big thanks goes to Vapefly for sending this through for me to review!

First Impressions & Rundown

You don’t see many regulated tube kits getting around these days. Most companies are pushing out Box mod kits and Pods, but there is something elegantly simple about them. The Siegfried Kit comprises of a non adjustable mech hybrid mod, and a Mesh tank. There’s more to this than just categorizing them however, and Vapefly and the German 103 team have really gone to town on this kit to make sure they’ve thought of everything.

Measuring in at a huge 168.2 x 25.2mm with tank attached, the Siegfried isn’t something you’ll just slip in your pocket for a night out on the town, it is large, and hefty, but just like everything that Vapefly create, it oozes quality.

Made from superior stainless steel, this kit is styled in the same way we’ve all come to love from the German 103 team, just like previous products such as the Kriemhild, and Brunhilde, it has beautiful engraving, and clean lines, with a clear focus on a superb finish.

The Tube Mod

Let’s start with the aesthetics. The German 103 team never disappoint in the styling department. Every single one of their products has a unique yet recognizable look and feel that is unmistakably Vapefly + German 103.
From the engraving through to the quality finish, they never fail to impress, with their Gothic themes and fantastic designs.
The Siegfried tube is adorned with a large dragon engraving wrapping around the tube, with Siegfried engraved near the base of the tube, and German 103 and Vapefly branding on the bottom of the battery cap.

Besides the styling, the Siegfried tube is quite simple. Up top you have your gold plated, spring loaded 510, with a recess cut out around the top to limit any thread lock. Down further, a rather sturdy button, which is both easy to find and quite soft to press. There is no real click to it, and it is really comfortable to fire. Just above the button you’ll find a small LED light that tells you your battery level by the colour that flashes when you fire.
At the bottom the knurling allows you to unscrew the battery cap where revealing a rather large battery compartment, capable of taking anything from an 18650 battery (with provided adapter), to a 20700 and 21700 battery to provide power.

The Tube mod that comes in the Siegfried Kit is a regulated device.
By regulated, I mean that there is a chip inside, but it’s simply there for your protection. The power output is similar to that of a Mechanical device, in the way that the end power output solely depends on the build you use and the voltage supplied by your battery. There is no boost chip, no power or wattage adjustment, just straight power from your battery, that is passed through the chip to the tank.

The Tank

The Siegfried Tank is wonderful blend of design meets function. Vapefly and the German 103 team have pushed the extra mile with this one and re-invented the way wicking works with Mesh decks.

The RTA measures in at 69mm by 25.2mm diameter which is quite tall, but all is forgiven, because it will hold a massive 7ml of e-liquid.
Made from the same superior stainless steel that the Tube mod is made, every single thread and general piece of machining is perfect.

Up top is a really unique 810 delrin drip tip featuring a strip of knurling that almost looks like mesh itself.
Underneath the drip tip is the top cap that when unscrewed half a turn, reveals a double sealed fill area, not only does the main tank section have a silicone ring inside, but the top cap does too, in order to limit leakage, or pressure being released while vaping.
The two kidney shaped fill ports are semi-sealed with a silicone membrane, requiring you to push your e-liquid bottle nozzle into the membrane in order to fill. This is done really well here, and helps keep mess to a minimum.

The glass of the Siegfried tank is quite small, likely to limit the risk of breaking it, but unfortunately this also leaves it a little difficult to see exactly how full you have filled the tank.

At the base of the tank is your gold plated 510 pin, it’s fixed, and protrudes a way, so you can use this tank on a hybrid mech mod if you so wish, but remember, that deck and 510 pin spin freely from the rest of the tank, so make sure you tighten your tank together fully before putting it on any device.

I’ll go over the deck in the next section.

The Deck

At the base you have your build deck, which is unscrewed via another lovely piece of knurling, to reveal the unique free spinning build deck.
If you look closely at the build deck and how it fits into the main tank section, you’ll notice that it’s shaped quite similarly and needs to be inserted a specific way, this free spinning knurled ring allows the deck to come together seamlessly with the rest of the tank for better air flow, and easier locking.

Now, the build deck is quite unique and completely flips the way this tank provides e-liquid to the cotton on it’s head.
If you look closely you can see that the Siegfried’s e-liquid flows into the deck via two holes on either side of tank, these holes line up precisely with the two side holes provided in the deck, which then ‘flood’ the central section of the tank. Rather than airflow coming in from underneath the build area, the e-liquid does! Very clever!
Of course, laying cotton over these two flood holes, and under the mesh, allows the wick to pull e-liquid from underneath instead of from the side as many mesh setups do. This allows for some really effective wicking, and as a bonus, you really don’t have to do anything with the wick tails when building, just cut them off short as they are not required.

As an even bigger bonus, you don’t have to build the deck with mesh, you can use a regular single coil (one is provided) where you would hang your cotton tails down into the centre flood holes for wicking. You could even stuff those e-liquid flood wells up with cotton too, if you so desire.

The Build

Building on the Siegfried is super simple, whether you are using mesh or cotton, simply trap your ends in the clamps on either side, tighten down with the phillips head screws, and adjust your coil/mesh as required.

Run your cotton under your mesh or through your coils and you’re pretty much done.

If you’re using mesh, cut your tails short, and give the cotton a bit of a trim if you like, because the e-liquid wicks from underneath, you won’t need them.

If you’re using a single coil, drop your tails down into the flood wells under the coil, and you’re done.

Airflow

Vapefly and German 103 have gone with 8 small holes on either side of the tank for airflow control. These holes are blocked off by the adjustment ring with an “L” shaped cutout for even more options while adjusting. It can go from x2 holes all the way up to x8 holes, from a restricted DTL airflow right through to completely open.

The adjustment ring has a nice feel to it, it has some friction to it to hold it in place, but is also super smooth to adjust.

Battery

As I mentioned earlier, the battery bay in the Siegfried can take either an 18650 (with adapter), a 20700 or a 21700 battery. Whichever configuration you choose, all batteries fit nicely without any rattle.

The threads on the battery cap are nice and clean, but there is a little crunchiness to it when locking a battery in, purely due to the direct connection to the battery terminals and turning the cap.

Filling

The fill port and cap on the tank are really really nice. With a silicone membrane making up the fill ports, there’s plenty of room to get your nozzle in there, and fill. About the only downside to filling this tank is that you cannot see beyond 50% full. You have to turn the tank on an angle in order to see the level rise beyond that, and you can never be sure exactly how full it is unless you fill until it leaks out of the kidney fill ports.

The top cap has a soft silicone seal on it too, completely covering the top tank section, so that you do not get any pressure release and consequent flooding because of it. I wish all tanks had this type of fill cap.

Any Leaks?

I’ve had absolutely no leaks with this RTA, the e-liquid wicking design of it is wonderful, and gravity makes sure that you’re not over wicked.

Usage

Using the Siegfried couldn’t be easier. There are no adjustments, no power modes, nothing except for an on/off firing button with an LED to show you your battery level, or if there is a fault.
5 clicks in succession of the firing button will turn the device on/off.

Pros:

  • Excellent build quality
  • Ingenius wicking design
  • Takes 3 kinds of batteries
  • Adjustable airflow
  • Super simple to use
  • Large eliquid capacity

Cons:

  • Difficult to see fill level
  • It’s really big!

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Vapefly Siegfried Kit directly through Vapoureyes, here in Australia. Currently it’s selling for about $120 AU which is a pretty reasonable price considering the quality of this kit and all that you get!

Conclusion

I’ve really enjoyed using the Siefried Kit, over the last week or so, it has just been so easy to pick up and keep next to me while at home without wanting to use anything else.

It puts out some fantastic flavour, while being super easy to use, and pretty much puts out the perfect vape that I prefer. A nice dense, flavourful, yet not too hot.

I’m particularly impressed by the really clever wicking design with the flood wells allowing wicking up through the bottom of the cotton, as well as the wonderfully sealed top cap and filling method on the tank.

While the regulated tube mod wouldn’t have been my first choice to pair with this tank, it does a really good job, and I can see it being an advantage to those who want a tube mod without having to worry about safety.

From form to function, the Siegfried is an impressive unit that simply puts out the perfect vape every time!

Excellent work Vapefly and German 103 team!!
