Hardware Review: Lyra POD kit from Lost Vape

Hardware Review: Lyra POD kit from Lost Vape

I’m not a huge POD vaper, but I can appreciate when a device comes out that is not only easy to use, but built tough, and is also multi purpose!

This seems to be the way Lost Vape have been leaning with their last few devices, attempting to cater to several markets at once, and they’ve done so quite well with their Orion and Q Series products.

Today I’ve got something else to take a look at in from their POD/AIO offerings that is also shaking things up a bit. It’s called the LostVape Lyra kit and I think it’s pretty great!

The Review

I was taken aback a little by this little POD/AIO system when I unboxed it. This little thing has a heft to it, and instantly makes a quality impression with how it feels in the hand.

From the cold steel to the weight and quality feel of the construction of this device, everything feels expensive, much more expensive than what this AIO kit retails for.

Lostvape are well known for their role in the latest AIO craze, having previously released their Orion, and Q-Series to great success, creating a niche within a niche with that now familiar “Walkie Talkie” shape.

A second AIO kit being released is a little bit of a surprise, specially since the “Lyra” is a completely different beast to their previous success.

This one is not only in a completely different format, but uses different coils and POD’s.

Packaged elegantly in a zinc-aluminum alloy chassis with striking resin or leather panels, the “Lyra” boasts a whopping 1000mah battery, maximum 20Watts in it’s tiny frame. The body itself is chemical resistant, and is such a wonderful shape, it just sits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

Your choice of two Newly released pre-made coils (1.2ohm regular coil + 0.6Ohm Mesh coil) screw down into the custom 2ml POD, fillable by simply unclipping the top section and using the 2 provided fill ports, one to fill, and the other to allow air escape while filling.

Operation is simple with the x5 clicks off/on power button, also used to fire the device being the only button on it. This also acts as a “Mode” change button when clicked x3 times. You can cycle through 3 different settings and find the perfect vape for you.

The Main Body

As mentioned earlier, this small form factored mod consists of a zinc-aluminium alloy chassis, strong enough to throw around, with a little bit of fancy thrown in with it’s leather and resin optioned panels.

This feels quality in the hand, has a nice weight to it, and just exudes luxury.

The POD

An interesting bit of kit this is, the POD itself is a fairly straight forward design, however unlike other devices, this is a two piece POD. The top unclips from the sides to expose the fill ports and coil underneath it, so can be a little fiddly.

I found unclipping the top part of the pod to be very cumbersome, and needed to use a bit of force to push both sides in. Even doing that didn’t release the top section cleanly, and a good pull was needed to remove it.
This has gotten easier the more I open it, but it really shouldn’t be this difficult.

The coil is simply screwed down in place, and on top of it is a spring mounted section, presumably, to ‘spring’ the top off of the pod when you press in the clips on the side. It doesn’t really work that well, nor as LostVape intended.

The POD then pushes down into the mod with the aid of two magnets, and sits in place snugly. It’s quite easy to pull out, but will stay in place easily, even while throwing it around, into your pocket, or carry bag. I’ve not had an instance where the POD has fallen out. Not once.

Coils

LostVape have introduced two new coils specifically for the Lyra Kit.
The two Lyra coils, measure 1.2Ohms (Mouth to lung) and 0.6Ohms (Mesh coil for direct to lung) and they both pump out some nice little clouds.

This is far from a warm build, and you’ll find that it’s a fairly cool vape, but even so, it’s actually quite surprising how much vapour you can produce and how satisfying the vape can be once you dial in your nicotine level for these coils. Lost Vape have been making some great coils lately, they seem to be able to handle long draws really well without dry hits.

Normally I would vape at about 60Watts on a single clapton SS build using 3mg nicotine, with either of these coils I was able to get a suitable vape by simply doubling to 6mg for that little bit of extra throat hit.
Using nicotine salts helped the 1.2Ohm coil out a little, and worked wonderfully fulfilling my needs.

I will note that I don’t get ‘incredible’ flavour from these coils, nor did I from their Q-Pro Series coils, which is a little bit of a shame, because otherwise they are top notch. A little more dense flavour and these would have been a home-run.

Usage

You’re going to be shocked when it comes to controls with this one. There literally is only one button. Yep one button. And it controls everything.
The Lyra has the usual 5 clicks off and on of the fire button for the power, so you can switch things off before putting it in your pocket.

But the button does more than that, it also controls the “Mode” that you’re in. I assume the modes are “Light”, “Medium”, “Heavy”, as there are three of them and neatly colour coded. To change modes, simply click the fire button x3 times to switch between the “Modes”.

There is also a ring around the fire button that lights up via LED which not only tells you which mode you’re in, but also how low your battery is getting when you fire it. Pretty handy.

Charging

Charging is simple, the Lyra comes with a micro USB cable that you simply plug into the port on the bottom of the device device and it starts charging.

The light will pulse while charging, and go a solid green when done.

There is no pass-through, so you won’t be able to vape while it’s on charge, but thats only a small niggle.

Charging from relatively empty to full charge takes just over an hour.

Pros:

  • Great build quality
  • Super comfortable
  • Quality Coils and vapour
  • Dead simple to use
  • Zero Leaks

Cons:

  • Pod side clips are clunky and difficult to press
  • No adjustable airflow
  • Flavour of coils is a little lacking
  • No passthrough (cannot vape while charging)

Where to Buy

You can purchase the Lost Vape LYRA kit from several online stores whom stock Lost Vape products. Giant Vapes stock them in the USA and Vaping Mad here in Australia. Alternatively, you can also buy direct from Lost Vape through the Lost Vape Online store! It’s price point seems to be around the $25 USD / $45 AUD mark, with a pack of coils setting you back $15 USD/$20AUD for a pack of 5.

Conclusion

The Lost Vape Lyra brings the same build quality and attention to detail present in their other offerings and packages them into a small form factor AIO vape device that is perfect for anyone looking for a simple, satisfying vape experience on the go.

I was particularly impressed by not only the build quality of this device and it’s cool panels (leather or resin), but also the coils produced for use with it. I’ve tried both types, and not had a single dry hit. Every pull has been on point with zero harshness, no matter how long I inhale for. These coils are great at wicking. All of this with no leaks. Not one. I’ve kept this in my pocket, in my bag, in the car, going from one extreme temperature to another, and this has not leaked a drop.

Like I mentioned, I was a little let down by the flavour from this, it’s a little cool and lacking in denseness, but all in all a great little pocket device for when your out and about, and don’t want to carry a clunky mod and dual batteries with you.

Nice work Lost Vape! And thankyou for sending this through for me to review.
