Hellvape EIR Pod Kit Reviewed

Hellvape EIR Pod Kit Reviewed

Welcome back you lot, today I’ve got something for you that’s a little left field. Not left field for me by any means, since I’ve reviewed a tonne of these sorts of devices in the past, but a little left field for Hellvape!
Normally, if you heard the word Hellvape, you’d associate it with, higher end tanks, rebuildables, and recently mods, but this is something that they rarely push out. A pod device!

Let’s take a look at what Hellvape have done with the new EIR Pod!!

Big thanks goes to Hellvape and to Vaporstate who are their Australian partners, for sending this through to me for review!

General Info

Hellvape’s maiden voyage into the Pod (stick) market, is quite impressive. Not only have they packed the most important features you could need into this small ‘stick’ format, but also made a few improvements over the general design, and pushed a few additional ‘nice-to-haves’ into the mix as well.
Weighing in at only 60g, the EIR pod is a sturdy little beast, made from an aluminium chassis, with 8 different colours available. It is also one of the most versatile Pod devices released recently, with removable pod, removable coils, variable wattage, dual fire modes (puff and push button), and 2 airflow levels to choose from.

The Body

As mentioned earlier, the body is an aluminium chassis, which means it’s really lightweight, shaped in a Caliburn or penstyle, it’s comfortable in the hand, all the while being super pocket friendly, and quite a nice looking device too if I might add.
Nothing out of the norm initially jumps out at me about the general styling and form factor, everything is laid out in a way that is consistant with other pod systems, right down to the usb-c port on the bottom, the single air inlet hole in the side, and the draw activation switch inside the pod recess.

On the front is a small screen that shows your wattage, battery capacity, resistance and puff counter, sitting just above the copper ringed, round black fire button.

At the base of the device on the front face you’ll also find the word “EIR” light up when you activate the device with either a button push or inhale activation. A nice little touch.

The POD & Coils

The pod itself while cleverly done, is very much consistent with other pod devices on the market too.
It has a flat duck bill design, which is really comfortable I must admit, a silicone plug covered fill port on the side, and coil recess underneath.
The biggest plus on these pods is that they have removable coils. Obviously not the first time this has been done, but Hellvape have done a great job with it, and developed their own coils exclusive to the EIR device.
You’ll get only one coil in the box, which is a little bit of a disappointment, there should have been at least 2 in my opinion, in case you burn the first one out by accident.
Apparently, there are 2 different coils available, perhaps one of each in the box might have been a better idea.

  • P3-01 0.8ohm KA1 Meshed coil (14-16W) (provided in box)
  • P3-02 1.2ohm KA1 Meshed coil (10-14W) (available separately)

Airflow

The airflow is interesting on the EIR Pod. On the base of the pod on each side is a small air channel, that differs in size so that depending on which way you place the pod in the device, the airflow will be different.
I’ve found that the difference is negligible, and not really even noticeable, which is a little disappointing, while the more open setting is perfect for a restricted DTL draw, the tighter one is only so slightly tighter than the open side.
A much tighter MTL draw on the tighter side would have been amazing, and made this airflow true to it’s advertising, with one being a MTL draw and the other a DTL draw, but it missed the mark a little unfortunately, and we have two sides with DTL airflow.

I’ve noticed that the inhale activated switch can be a little non-responsive also, and on investigating, found that airflow not only comes from that air inlet on the side of the device, but also through the inhale switch in the Pod recess of the device. Perhaps a smaller amount of air going through that switch might have improved not only the tighter airflow for the MTL setting but also improved the responsiveness of the inhale activation too.

Battery

Absolutely nothing to compain about here, the EIR comes with an 800mah internal battery which is plenty to get you through most of the day, and if running low, you have an easily accessible USB-C port at the base of the mod for a quick charge up. The EIR also has passthrough charging, so that you can also vape on this while it is charging.

Filling

Filliing is super simple, nothing different here than many other devices. Peel the silicone plug back and fill through the revealed fill port. I’ve had no issues getting the Pod completely full at all, unlike some other devices, where the pod is so narrow that the e-liquid’s surface tension creates problems with trapped air bubbles. Nothing like that here I’m happy to say!

Any Leaks?

None. I did actually expect some, or even the smallest amount, but I can honestly say that I’m truly impressed by this. Normally any pod with airflow underneath will seep after a while, but the EIR has not shown me a single drop under the Pod. Great work on this Hellvape!

Usage

With only one button to use, the EIR pod’s operation is very simple, and you have a lovely little screen to help you adjust your wattage.

– 5 clicks to turn the device on/off
– 2 clicks to reset the puff counter
– 3 clicks to put the device into wattage adjustment mode

You probably won’t play with this a lot as the device will naturally reset to the default setting for whichever coil is used, and Hellvape’s chip is quite good at determining the perfect wattage to run each coil at.

Pros:

  • Small and well constructed design
  • Great quality feel to it
  • Variable Wattage
  • Great flavour

Cons:

  • Dual airflow setting does not work as described

Where to Buy:

You can pick up the Hellvape EIR Pod through Vaporstate for about $55 AUD, which is quite a good price for what you get, well, besides only getting the one coil!

Conclusion

This is a pretty great release from Hellvape for their first Pod kit. It’s stylish, built tough, and carries Hellvape’s very high standard of quality that they apply to everything else they release.
They’ve taken care to not only include all of the standard and expected features that most of you will want from a Pod kit, but have also gone above and beyond, with making sure that variable wattage is available as well as a level of airflow control for those who like to have options.

Unfortunately there always has to be a negative, and I’ve found with the EIR kit, that it is in fact that dual airflow option. There is a slight difference, but it’s barely noticeable, and I think a larger difference, in particular, on the tighter MTL side of things would have really made this device all that it could be. The other con that I have is that it only comes with the one coil in the box. Not a big deal, but from a customer perspective, all it takes is a user to accidently hit that fire button before putting eliquid into the pod (which is surprisingly easy to do), and they’re left with an unusable device.

There are a bunch of positives of course. Including the variable wattage, well thought out pod design with removable coil, fast charging, and the fact that these pods just simply do not leak, that help even things out, and allow me to still call the EIR a pod device that is worth owning.

Overall, sure there are a few issues, but this is one pod device that is still worth putting your money down for.

Nice work on your first Pod device Hellvape!
