Hardware Review: Vinci Pod Mod Kit from Voopoo

Hardware Review: Vinci Pod Mod Kit from Voopoo

Voopoo, the name synonymous with the Voopoo Drag, it’s debut series of variable wattage kits that hit the big time on release. Since then Voopoo have released several different types of POD systems that have catered more to the mouth to lung vapers, and people wanting super portable vapes.

So in true Voopoo form, what did they do? Well, they created something completely left field, something that was going to blow everyone away, just like the Drag did, but this time, aiming at those POD users that many disregard, the Direct to Lung vapers who demand an airier draw than their MTL counterparts.

Let’s take a look at their latest offering. The Voopoo Vinci.

The Voopoo Vinci was sent through to me from Sourcemore, for the purposes of this review.

The Review

I’m really glad that SourceMore sent this through for me to review, as I’ve had my eye on it for a while. Add the fact that there are countless positive reviews on it already, I’ve been keen to give one a try, to see if it really is as good as they say!

I’m not an exclusive POD vaper, I primarily use mechanical mods and small squonking setups, but after trying this device, I can tell you without a shadow of doubt, one of these could easily replace my existing setup. Well, maybe x2 just to make sure I have enough battery to keep me going all day.

The Main Body

This solid device, has an aluminum alloy and plastic chassis, lightweight, yet strong enough to take quite a beating. It’s quite a squarish design, which you would think might be a hindrance, and not very comfortable to hold, but alas, this is a very comfortable mod, the size is fantastic and the shape is not cumbersome at all.
At 104 mm x 25.3 mm x 25.3 mm, this is the tiniest bit larger than the Geekvape Boost.

There are a heap of colours to choose from too, I received the rainbow/peacock version which has a lovely colour fade through it, and hex panels on the sides. The finish seems anodised and likely very tough.

On this colourful body, you’ll find a decent sized TFT colour screen that shows all of the information you might ever need, and is nice and bright and cheerful.

You’ll notice a micro usb charge port on the bottom of the device, and at the top an inverted connection with x4 magnets and x3 connection points where your POD simply clicks in effortlessly.

You’ll notice here that there is quite a bit of negative space near the POD connections, a little bit of a concave in case you happen to end up with a little eliquid under the POD. Having that space or dip there, stops eliquid from spilling down further into the casing and damaging any of the electrics, a very nice and forward thinking addition!

The POD

The POD is also quite a clever design, it’s made from PCTG plastic which is resistant to higher temperatures and is a tough plastic which holds its form well. You’ll notice that it’s a ‘clear’ POD, with no tinting, which is wonderful for keeping an eye on your eliquid levels, something that you can see really easily in these PODs.

Speaking of eliquid levels, this POD will hold a whopping 5.5mls of eliquid, that is fantastic! A huge capacity for a POD device, so you’ll need to refill less often!

You’ll notice the x4 magnets on the bottom of the POD also which provide that lovely satisfying ‘click’ when placing the POD into the main body, and the coil which simply pushes in from the bottom, also having an audible click. The fill port is on the side, and as with many POD devices these days, is a simple silicone plug, with a decent sized hole for quick and easy filling, with no mess and no fuss.

The mouth piece is of a duck-bill design, it’s not replaceable, and simply part of the POD, it is flat across allowing you to really bite down onto it, and in my opinion, helps give this the quality vape that it has.

Coils

This kit comes with 2 different Mesh Coils. They are the larger PnP coils, one coming in at 0.3 ohms for use between 32-40Watts, and the other at 0.6 ohms for use between 20-28Watts. Both are direct to lung coils, however you can also use any of Voopoo’s PnP coils with this device, including the RBA coil.

I have to say, even though I’ve heard some grumblings on the interwebs about these coils, they’ve been quite good to me. They can handle some pretty thick liquids, I literally have not had a single dry hit.

The 0.3 coil has quite a larger airflow through it so this is ideal for those who really want to maximise their air, but it will also require you to run the mod at a higher wattage, to make sure all of that lovely eliquid is vapourised.

Battery life lasts a lot longer with the 0.6 coil, it’s still a mesh, but has a smaller airflow, rather restricted, and is good right up to about 30Watts as long as you don’t push it too hard. At 30Watts I’ve never had a dry hit from this coil.

The screen

On opening the box, this screen was quite impressive, it’s large, and indoors quite vibrant.

On the display you’ll find battery meter, wattage setting, puff counter, puff time, fire setting, resistance and voltage.

While this screen is quite nice indoors, I did notice that on a bright sunny day, it is difficult to read outside, perhaps that’s the type of screen that it is, perhaps it’s not quite as vibrant as I thought I was in the beginning, I’ve also noticed a distinct fading toward the bottom of the screen over time on my version. I think this screen is slowly failing. It hasn’t gotten any worse and it’s still quite usable, but it’s something I need to mention regardless.

Battery

A 1500mAH internal battery is at the heart of this Pod Mod, quite a generous battery capacity, which is of course very welcome, which lasts quite a while depending on your power settings.

As a guideline, using 0.3 ohm coils at the 38Watt mark got me close to about 4 hours of use, where the 0.6 ohm coils at 28-30Watts allowed me to continue vaping for up to 7 hours.

The Voopoo Vinci charges quite quickly too, despite the slow micro usb connection, it takes approximately just over 1 hour to charge from completely empty to completely full.

Airflow

The Vinci introduces quite an interesting way to alter airflow, you simply remove the POD, rotate it 180 degrees and put it back in. That’s right! Airflow is different depending on how you insert the POD.

As convenient as this is, it’s also very limited, with only 2 airflow settings available, one being of decent restricted direct to lung and the other being slightly more airy, you won’t be getting any huge inhales, nor any tighter Mouth to Lung hits out of this one.

Filling

Filling is as easy as any other modern POD system. Remove the POD from the device, hold side up so that the silicone plug is upright, peel it back to expose the fill hole, and fill. (Take note of how much juice you are putting in, you’ll be amazed at how much goes into these PODS!)

Any Leaks?

No leaking here. I do get a minor, minor bit of seepage, coming through the seam of the POD, but not enough to even see. You can feel it on the edge of the POD when you remove it though.

I’ve also experienced a few small puddles under the POD when left overnight after filling, which can be attributed to the wick getting saturated and then left to drip down through the coil. A bit of a wipe down and you’re good to go.

As I mentioned earlier, Voopoo have given us a pretty decent sized reservoir below the POD to avoid juice getting into the circuitry. Good thinking guys!

Usage

Using this fabulous device is fairly simple too. Voopoo have built all sorts of trickery into their Gene chip, including auto resistance detection and power management, right through to giving 3 useful options on how to fire the device.

Putting in a 0.3ohm coil had the device auto set to approx 30-32Watts, and using the 0.6ohm coil the device set itself to between 22-25Watts.
Not perfect, but well below the recommended maximum wattage ratings for the coils, and a useful setting to help you avoid blowing out your coils straight away.

To power the device on/off it takes x5 clicks of the fire button.

The firing options are great too, you can choose between 3 settings when clicking the fire button x3 times. You pretty much get to choose how you vape!
Setting 1 : Power button fire only
Setting 2 : Power button and autodraw available
Setting 3 : Autodraw only

Another really cool (note quite sure how useful) option is the puff screen. Holding the Up and Down buttons together will take you to a puff graph showing you length of puffs over time.

Pros:

  • Nice large screen
  • Great vape quality
  • Big battery capacity
  • Big eliquid capacity
  • Convenient and fuss-free filling
  • Minimal leaking
  • Autodraw available
  • Passthrough vaping (can vape while charging)
  • Comfortable and erganomic to hold
  • Excellent size and heft

Cons:

  • Light seepage from coil
  • Airflow only adjusts to 2 settings
  • Cannot do a MTL autodraw
  • No USB Type-C charging

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Voopoo Vinci from SourceMore right now on sale for $22.52 USD marked down from the usual $46.99 USD which I think was completely reasonable to begin with. This is a lot of device for that price mark.

Conclusion

What a fantastic little device. It’s going on about 2 weeks now that I’ve been using this every day, from full charge to empty, and it has been a dream. There are a few obvious issues that other vapers might be able to pick on, but for my style of vaping it’s been perfect.

From thick volumous clouds to a lovely dense flavour and vape, I’m quite impressed with the Voopoo Vinci.
It’s also a well built little device, with a nice selection of colours to choose from. The construction and feel of it, imbues a level of security in that it will perform well every day, and function as well as it did new, even after a drop. The screen is bright, clean, and easy to read, with function kept simple and focused on it’s primary use.

I’d definitely recommend the Voopoo Vinci to anyone looking to purchase one!
