e-Juice Review: Brewed – Milk and Coffee from Mr Wicky

Welcome back, today I’m continuing on with my Mr Wicky eliquid reviews! If you haven’t been following, I’ve got the entire Mr Wicky range in to review. I’ve already finished a few of them (you can find the reviews here), and have 3 more flavours to go!

So far things have been a little hit and miss, there were definitely a few flavours that I rated highly, but there have also been a couple that have left me wanting more.

Im pretty excited for this next flavour though, so let’s see what we’ve got!

Today I’ll be reviewing “Brewed – Milk and Coffee” from Mr Wicky.

(This eliquid was supplied by Vapoureyes for review. Much love guys!)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
For all the coffee lovers out there, a smooth coffee mixed with milk.

The Review

Coffee. If you’ve been vaping for a while, you’ll know that this is not a profile that you choose to create lightly. I think I can count on one hand, the coffee flavours that I’ve tried and have not thrown straight into the rubbish, and that is no joke. Even then, they have not been fantastic and rarely resemble the real thing.

Well, Mr Wicky have taken the gamble, challenged the system, created that which so many do not even attempt to try. How did they go?

Unfortunately, even after throwing everything they had at it, this flavour is still your gritty and bitter coffee grounds, this time with some sugar and cream.

Individual Notes

There are a few flavours in here that I notice, Mr Wicky haven’t just thrown some coffee together with a little sweet cream, and I wouldn’t expect them to. There is more to this than meets the eye.

The coffee is your typical gritty and bitter coffee flavour, it reminds me of percolated coffee, or the gitty grounds you might see at the bottom of your cup. It’s not a rich deep flavour, there is some brightness to it and a bit of sharpness, which doesn’t really fit, and makes things even more bitter.

There is also some cream here too. In the description and name, it mentions ‘milk’ but to me this is more of a thickened cream or a condensed milk, it is very sweet. I notice a vanilla note here too, it’s very much a vanilla bean ice cream, making this almost a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, just not quite.

To finish things off, there’s a bunch of sweetener in here. Yes I know, most coffee flavours call for it, and this is likely no different. I do feel like it’s been added to combat the bitterness of the coffee, but doesn’t actually fix it instead makes things extra sweet and bitter at the same time.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, you’ll instantly get a strong coffee hit, very much like you would with a strong black coffee, the only difference being, it is quite bitter, more akin to the last sip where you might get some grounds in the bottom of your cup. As you inhale, things sharpen up, and get brighter, as a creamier note begins to appear.

At this point near the top of the inhale, the cream comes into play. As it does, the coffee has gotten much brighter and bitter, and almost hitting a bit of a sour note. This affects the cream as it washes in, giving it a little bit of a condensed milk feel, as the sweetness of the cream contrasts with the bitterness of the coffee.

Through to the exhale, things start to settle down a little as the coffee is knocked back a little in intensity by the cream, and I begin to notice some light vanilla notes, giving things a little bit of a vanilla ice cream feel, with even more sweetness shining through. Contrast and layers appear at this point, from the base coffee, through to the thickened cream/condensed milk, vanilla ice cream, and now a light cake feel taking hold as this flavour reaches it’s peak complexity halfway through the exhale.

Things flow a little more warmly from here on in, as the vanilla bean ice cream and contrast that creates the cake note begin to dominate, driving things home to a nice evenly and complex finish.

Final thoughts

Initially, I wasn’t all that impressed by this one. I was getting quite a thinly flavoured coffee ground note and condensed milk feel from it, and that was it. Bitter and Sweet, with very little complexity. So I upped my wattage, and also put it in my Intake RTA, and that is when I started to notice the other supporting flavours coming through.

I don’t know if cake or biscuit was added but on a higher wattage I do get a baked feel coming through along with the vanilla bean ice cream. If this was intentional, well done guys, because it saves the flavour.

While not my favourite coffee, Mr Wicky have done ok, and I have to give credit for them trying something a little different with this one.

This is not horrible, but also not a crazy close match for the real thing, then again, which coffee flavours actually do?
