The Review

As soon as I opened the box and picked this device up, the heft, the build quality, the screen, it all just screamed quality to me. Smok have lifted their game in recent times and the Pozz X is testiment to their turnaround.

This erganomic, all in one device, has a lot of features, but it’s all kept as simple as possible. From the form factor, right through to the one button operation, simple is great, and Smok have done an amazing job, keeping this simple!

The Main Body

For it’s size, the Pozz X has a little bit of heft to it. Weighing in at 97 grams, it’s a little heavier than it’s brother, the Nord 2, but around the same size.
It’s perhaps a touch wider, and a hair longer, but you won’t notice that when holding it, it’s a pleasure and quite comfortable to hold, having no flat spots, it’s a lovely shape.

The main body is made up of different materials. The main body, is electroplated baked paint providing a smooth and shiny metallic finish, that has quite a built up feel. No cheap paint here.

The front and back panels, no matter the design, are made up of a composite four layer structure.
A Process layer (the color design), a clear PC layer, a clear PMMA layer, and finally it’s hard coated to make it extra durable.

The POD

The pods are of a nice design, with the mouth piece being of a duck-bill shape, these pods hold a whopping 4.5mls of eliquid.

They’re made quite well, with a translucent colour, allowing you to easily see your eliquid levels at all times.

Your coil pushes in from the bottom, where you’ll also notice an air control ring. This rotates easily without an restriction allowing you to adjust your airflow easily without it getting knocked or altered from being in your pocket. I’ve found that this airflow control, doesn’t really adjust alot. It goes from airy to slightly restricted airflow, not quite as tight as I was expecting.
So, you won’t get a super tight Mouth to lung vape from this, it’s suited to Lung hitters, and restricted lung hitters at best.

Smok decided against using magnets to keep this POD in place, instead opting for a clip on system. You simply click the POD into place, and remove it the same way.

I’ve had a little trouble removing this POD from the main body, and have to give it a little bit of a wiggle, or risk it flying out of my hand. This is mainly due to the duck bill design and having little to hold onto when removing the POD from the battery section.

Filling

Filling this is super simple, and having the fill port on the side of the POD with minimal indents keeps things nice and clean without a puddle of eliquid lingering. You simply remove the pod, hold it on it’s side, remove the silicone plug, fill, and replace the silicone plug. (make sure you wipe away any overflow juice)

Due to the transluscent nature of the pods, you can see your eliquid levels easily, even through the transparent duck bill tip, excellent!

Any Leaks?

I have experienced a few small leaks, and only from the coils themselves. It seems leaving the Pozz X in an upright position allows e-liquid to seep from the bottom of the coil and onto the connection between pod and main body.

Considering that this POD device has no flat sides, I can only assume that Smok designed for it to lie on it’s side, therefore avoiding any such eliquid seepage from the bottom of the coil.

I do notice a little gurgling from time to time too, which leans toward a slight flooding issue with the coils. You’re experience might differ however, as this might just be the batch of coils I received.

Coils

The Pozz X uses Smok RPM40 coils, and the kit comes with x2 coils, one pre-installed and the other in the box.

  • 0.4Ω Mesh coil
Has a recommended operating wattage of 25 Watts
This coil is better suited for people wanting a more open airflow.
  • 0.6Ω Triple coil
Has a recommended operating wattage of 25 Watts
This one will be better suited for those who like a more restricted airflow, and run lower wattages.

The RPM40 coils are great, all x6 RPM40 coils on offer are compatible, even the RBA coil that you can purchase separately, which is fantastic.

The vape from these coils is also fantastic, nice smooth and flavour-some clouds with no dry hit issues. I’ve even been running this well above the recommended 25W with no problems at all. 35W all the way!

Im actually looking forward to getting my hands on a RPM RBA so I can try it out with this!

Fitting the coils to the POD is super simple, just line the notches up and push the coil home, and you’re good to go. (Just dont forget to let the coil sit for a bit and soak up some juice before firing!)

Usage

The Pozz X is super simple to use. There is only one button, so one button does it all!

The display is extra nice, with a large sized colour screen, displaying everything you might ever need.

  • Wattage
  • Battery indicator
  • Lock Mode
  • Voltage
  • Resistance
  • Length of last puff
  • Puff Counter

Here are the main functions:

  • x5 Clicks to turn it on
  • Once on, x5 clicks will put you in the options menu. You will then use the fire button to cycle through the 3 options
    • Lock device
    • Power Off
    • Clear puff counter
  • To choose one of the options, long press the fire button and you’re done.
  • To change wattage, click the fire button x3 times, and you can then cycle through the wattages going all the way up to the maximum 40Watts, which then cycles back through to 5Watts. Let the Wattage sit for a few seconds to allow it to set.

Charging

Charging is super simple too. There is a micro USB port on the bottom of the device, to plug your usual charging cable too, and off it goes.

Charging might take a while to get this 1400mah battery full, but it does seem to charge a little quicker than other devices, anywhere from 45mins to just over an hour depending on what cable you’re using.

This definitely would have benefitted from having a USB-C connection, with the Micro USB letting it down a little. A faster charge is what we all want!

Pros:

  • Great build quality
  • Super comfortable
  • Quality Coils and vapour
  • Adjustable airflow adjustment
  • Passthrough (can vape while charging)
  • Large eliquid capacity
  • 1400mah battery
  • Great vape

Cons:

  • Difficult to remove POD
  • Battery capacity not suited for higher wattage vaping
  • No USB-C charging
  • Occasional leaking from bottom of coil

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Pozz X from many other resellers all over the world. SMOK’s reach is quite far! But you can also buy directly from them through the Smok Official Store. At the moment, the Pozz X is retailing for $43.99USD.

Conclusion

All in all, I have to admit, I’ve been impressed by this device! It’s a lovely shape, and just the right size to carry around for a few hours of vaping for outings, or even all day if you’re near a charge point.

The vape from this is quality. To compare it to one of the best on the market, the Aegis Boost, it’s almost up there. Not quite taking the gold trophy but it does a great job of delivering a nice, thick and dense vape.
