Geekvape Aegis L200 Kit Reviewed

Geekvape Aegis L200 Kit Reviewed

Welcome back you lot!

Geekvape have been on a bit of a roll lately, not only with new devices but also revamps of some of their original best sellers.

The Aegis range is legendary in it’s own right, with probably the largest amount of devices falling under the same family name, it spans various types of devices from twin battery, right through to the tiny Aegis Nano.

In particular mention from the Aegis series and in reference to today’s review, is the Aegis Legend.
There have been a few iterations of the Aegis Legend, each with their own quirks, but far more importantly is how well they have worked, and what a cult following they have amassed. The original Legend was a twin battery, IP67 rated device, built super tough for those who like to throw their gear around. It was not only sturdy, but flexible with a tonne of options, and stylish to boot!

Our friends at Geekvape, have not only matched the original but improved on it too.

Let’s take a look at Geekvape’s L200 (Aegis Lengend 2) kit!

Big thanks goes to Geekvape for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info & Photos

Just like it’s predecessor, the Legend 2 kit or (L200 Kit) as it’s branded, is a dual 18650 battery device, with a maximum wattage of 200 Watts. It boasts a bunch of improvements such as a new IP68 rating, new display, colours, charging port location, lock switch, it’s 30% lighter and 15% smaller, all with a new sub-ohm tank on top.

That sub-ohm tank is Geekvape’s latest version of their Z tank (2021) (formally known as the Zeus Tank).
The Z tank is a top adjustable airflow tank with a maximum 5.5ml e-liquid capacity, 1/2 turn fill cap, taking Geekvape’s new Z coils, 810 drip tip with optional straight or bubble glass already in the box.

The Body

You’ll instantly recognise the general styling of the Legend 2, Geekvape have made every effort to make sure the latest version of the Legend not only resembles the original, but carries with it the same general feel, and in doing so, the same level of trust that users of the originals had in their devices. I don’t have the original, but side by side, the styling is very similar, the only real difference is the removal of that annoying dust magnet rubber casing. Sure, if it falls, you’ll likely get a few more dings and dents, but removing that rubber, has not only brought the size of the device down, but the weight too. To top things off, the new Legend 2 is IP68 rated, where the original was only IP67.

Built out of various plastics with a stainless steel shell, the Legend 2 is very lightweight for it’s size. My version is the light grey model with a faux chrome fascia, grey panel, and grey leather heel. At first glance it looks a little over the top, but it is quite a striking looking combo, specially once the stainless steel tank is screwed into place.

Up top is a 510 connector with steel base plate, with spring loaded gold plated connection pin. The top of the device is only 26mm wide, so you can fit some pretty decent sized tanks on here, unfortunately because of the design, anything over about 23mm wide looks a little strange, it doesn’t overhang, but looks like it does.

On one side under the “Aegis” letting you’ll find a small slider switch. You might not know what this does now, but if you ever purchase this kit, you’ll need to know immediately. The Legend 2 comes locked from factory, and that switch on the side is the lock/unlock switch. You’d be forgiven for missing it, it does blend in, I certainly did. It took a good 10 minutes, and a short while wondering if I’d received a damaged device before I realised that this is how you unlock the device, instead of the usual button combinations.

Battery & Charging

Just below the 510 off to the edge is a rubber flap that you can lift to access the USB Type – C charge port, used for charging as well as software updates.

And finally, of course we have our battery bay door on the bottom of the device. This is an IP68 rated setup, so do expect this door to be a bit of a pain in the arse to open and close for a while. You will literally need to push the door down with a little force, and slide the latch into place a few times before it frees up some. I wish it were easier, but it is what is. The battery terminals inside the battery bay, are clearly marked, look to be gold plated for extra conductivity, and all batteries I’ve tried fit quite well, with no rattle at all.

Usage & Features

On the front edge of the device, is your firing button, screen and option buttons, nothing really new here, even the buttons resemble the same trapezoid shape of previous Aegis models. The screen is new however, and is now a 1.08″ TFT Colour screen, giving you a little extra room and clarity to see the data you need. The newer chip also allows you to adjust the screen brightness, color of the display, as well as control the many options available to you.

There are plenty of modes to choose from on the Legend 2, from Power, TC – Ni (Nickel), TC – Ti (Titanium), TC – SS (Stainless Steel), TC – TCR (Temperature Coefficient), VPC (Variable Power Curve), and Bypass modes. You can also access a bunch of other configuration options, such as brighten display, darken display, change colour of display, and alter temperature related settings such as resistance, wattage setting, and resetting the puff counter.

Here are a few of the general commands:

  • On/Off : 5 clicks of the fire button
  • Change Mode: 3 clicks of the fire button then using up down buttons to scroll.
  • Once in Output adjustment mode, you can scroll down to adjust coil resistance and reset puff count by pressing the fire button
  • Brightness Up: Press and Hold Fire & + button
  • Brightness Down: Press and Hold Fie & – button
  • Change screen colour: When in Output adjustment mode (3 clicks), hold both option buttons (up/down) to change the colour of the screen.

The Z Tank (2021)

The Z Tank (2021) or Zeus Tank as it was previously called, is a pretty cool little sub-ohm tank. Geekvape have made improvements to this also, over the original, with better connections in the base, the latest Z coils, as well as carry overs from the previous version, top airflow, 1/2 turn fill cap, and adjustable cyclops airflow slots.

You’ll get a 2ml e-liquid capacity with the straight glass, and a 5.5ml capacity using the supplied bubble glass, with the 2 coil options supplied being Geekvape’s Z Series coils, (preinstalled) 0.2Ω 70~80W and a spare dual coil: 0.25Ω 45~57W.

For what it is, this tank is quite large, measuring in at about 26mm in diameter and 51mm in height without the drip tip, but the coils are also quite large, which contribute to the need of it’s size.

Up top you have an 810 standard drip tip sitting on top of a 1/2 turn fill cap which is lovely, I love the 1/2 turn fill caps over slide to fill due to their robustness and having better chance at keeping a seal. Inside that top cap are two large kidney shaped fill holes, that you can easily get most e-liquid nozzles into without issue, and fill fast if you’re on the move.

Below that is your air adjustment ring, featuring two cyclops style airflow holes, the ring moves around cleanly with the smallest amount of resistance just to ensure it doesn’t change when its in your pocket, with holes large enough to offer up a lightly restricted Direct to Lung vaping experience.

Removing the bottom cap shows an improved connection at the base, so that the push in coils can make better contact. The bottom connection is a floating pin, meaning it will flex with the seal of the coil, so it’s not recommended to use on a hybrid mech mod unfortunately.

The two coil choices that ship with the Z Tank are perfect for the type of airflow that it has, both offering up some fantastic flavour, and relying on reasonable wattage requirements for the slightly restricted top airflow.
The 0.25Ohm dual coil head is quite impressive, offering up a nice flavoursome vape, with a lot of density behind it, but I did prefer the 0.2ohm coil with the higher wattage rating, due to it having a little more airflow to it.

Any Leaks?

None, this is a top airflow tank, so no chance of leaking.

Pros:

  • Tough IP68 rating
  • Lightweight 30% lighter 15% smaller
  • Updated display and chip
  • Up to 200W of power
  • Leakproof tank
  • Excellent flavour and vape
  • Dual battery for longer vaping
  • New manual locking switch on the side
  • Stylish and feels great in the hand
  • Better positioning of the charge port

Cons:

  • Battery door is difficult to close

Where to Buy:

As always, you can purchase directly through the Geekvape Online store, where you’ll be able to pick up the z50 kit for around the $80 AUD mark. It’s on presale right now, but will be released very soon, apparently they are already on their way to vape stores.

Conclusion

I’ve had a great few weeks with the L200 (Legend 2) kit, it’s handled itself really well, and always given me a satisfying vape. It really has been one of those setups that you can turn to when all others are playing up and be guaranteed a great vape.

Besides the lighter, and generally lovely feel of this device, I particularly like some of the newer additions that Geekvape have introduced.

The locking switch is pure genius, instead of turning my device off, I can just throw that switch and it’s safe for my pocket. So much easier than needing to click the fire button 5 times and check to see if it’s turned off.
The USB port now being on top allows me to keep on vaping even while it’s charging (not that I would because I’d charge externally) in an emergency, and the new screen and UI is really nice to use.

The top airflow on the Z tank is fantastic, it makes a huge difference using a “leak-free” tank and never having to be concerned about leaving it for a while, or needing to wipe up any seepage. Huge props for that one.
It also puts out quite a nice vape for top airflow too. It’s a quiet, yet dense and flavourful vape. It is a little more restricted than it’s bottom airflow brothers, but that’s a small price to pay for being leak-free.

Overall, I think the L200 kit is quite an improvement on the original, and a really nice progression of the Aegis line. Would I recommend it if you already had the original? Absolutely!

I think this is going to be my “go-to” dual battery setup for a while 😉

Great work Geekvape!
