Freemax Twister 30w Kit Review

Freemax Twister 30w Kit Review

Freemax have been around for a long while now, since 2013 in fact, and in the vape world that’s a really long time! Best known for their sub ohm tanks, Freemax have pushed out a bunch of new products over the last year including tanks, kits, and PODs for the latest generation of vapers.

While they might not be as popular as some of the newer companies, they have experience in bringing quality products to market, and make sure that their products are not only quality, but work as they should.

Today, I’m going to be looking at their latest stick/pen vape, the Twister 30W!

A big thank-you goes out to Freemax for sending this through for me to review!

First Impressions – Rundown

Stick mods are a little bit yesteryear, but when you find a good one, it’s totally worth it for their ease of use and robust, bullet-proof design.
Your typical tank on top of an internal battery tube mod, is a great option for new vapers, due to their simplicity and their form factor making them easy to hold and use, and this is where the Twister series shine.

Straight out of the box, I notice a nice weight to the Twister 30w, combined with a quality finish and flawless machining, making this an impressive device immediately.

The Twister 30w is a really nice size measuring in at 122mm x 78mm, the body being close to the size of an 18650 battery with just as much capacity (1400mah) giving you a comfortable vape that will last all day at 30 Watts.

The MOD

“Simple is as simple does”, and the main body of the Twister 30w really is very simple. It’s a tube mod with an internal battery, single button, a Micro USB port for charging, a Potentiometer at the bottom to adjust wattage (the spinning adjustment on the bottom), and a spring loaded 510 connection up top.

All of the machining is top notch, and the finish on the Twister is quite striking with it’s bold colour, and etched logo along the side.

I like that Freemax have used a spring loaded 510 connector here, you’re not limited to any particular tank, even though the Freemax Fireluke 22 tank is quite good.

The Wattage adjustment on the bottom isn’t new, you might have seen it before on devices from years gone by, the “Vision Spinner” and/or the “Ego Twist”, both using potentiometers for voltage adjustment.

The action and feel of this switch is quite nice, with each setting gently moving into place with a purposeful click in 2.5 Watt increments.

The Tank

On top of the Twister 30w mod, is the Freemax Fireluke 22 Sub-Ohm tank. Measuring in at 22mm in diameter (without the bubble glass) and about 45mm in height (drip tip included) it’s quite small, but a perfect fit on the battery section. The Fireluke 22 is a smaller version of their Fireluke Sub Ohm tank, this time having a 3.5ml e-liquid capacity, and taking FM Coiltech 4.0 coils.

The airflow of this small tank is fantastic, it’s adjustable all the way down to a tight mouth to lung, as well as opening up to a nice restricted DTL.

In the pack you will get a DTL 0.5 ohm mesh coil and also a MTL coil with a resistance of 1.5ohm for those who like an extra tight draw.
Both coils are flavour machines using mesh, and Freemax’s Tea Fibre Cotton for a really superb vape. Even on a small 30watt vape, these coils pump out the vapour, nice and thick and dense.

The coils are modern push in coils, no threading or twist locks here, you simply push the coil in, fill the tank and off you go.

You’ll get 2 glass types in the kit, fitted is the bubble glass for some extra tank capacity, but there is also a straight glass tube in the box, for those who prefer the sleaker look and don’t mind a little less capactiy.

The drip tip is a standard 510, but with a concave shape, which is really comfortable. As a bonus, you also get a second drip tip in the kit that is much narrower for a tighter MTL vape (I really like this one).

The Fireluke 22 also has another trick up it’s sleeve. Freemax have been good to us and put a leak proof sleeve in the chimney, so if you ever need to remove your coil before the tank is empty, this shield comes down as you remove the coil, to make sure your e-liquid stays safely in the tank. Yep you got it, mess free coil changes!

Filling

Filling the Fireluke 22 is pretty simple, find the red marker on the top of the tank, and push the top piece aside, it’ll slide across giving you a nice sized fill hole to disperse your e-liquid. The cap doesn’t push right across, and it can be a little annoying using larger juice bottles, but the tip will sit just inside the fill hole allowing you to fill without spillage.
Slide the top back into place and away you go!

Usage & Operation

As I mentioned earlier, the key feature of the Twister is the Potentiometer at the bottom of the device for adjusting your wattage. You can spin this switch around, in 2.5Watt increments all the way up to 30 watts, (which is pretty much perfect for the 0.5ohm coil) it gives a nice audible click on each setting all the way around the dial.

The only other operation really is the fire button, we all know how those work, press to fire, press x5 times in succession, to turn the device off or on.

As you vape, you’ll notice a small LED light up in the button that also acts as a battery indicator, Green = charged, Blue = mid way, and Red = Time to charge. Conveniently you can also see this light from the other side, through the micro USB charging port. This jumps from Blue to Red really quickly and to empty very fast, so keep that in mind. It would have been nicer to have it stay on red for a little while before running out of power in my opinion.

Battery and charging

The Twister 30w sports a 1400mah battery, so you’re not going to run out too quickly. I’ve been getting a good day out of mine everyday over the last week, so you can be sure it will last you a work day with moderate vaping.

Charging is pretty quick considering that this is a micro USB port rather than a more modern fast charging USB Type-C, just over an hour to charge from flat to full.

Pros:

  • Great battery life
  • Great flavour
  • Comfortable and quality build
  • No complicated menus
  • Great vapour production
  • MTL and DTL vaping
  • Top Fill
  • Zero leakage
  • Pass through charging (can vape while on charge)
  • 1.5A Fast charging

Cons:

  • Fire button is a little sticky
  • Only 30 Watts (would have liked to see this go to 40 Watts)
  • No USB Type-C
  • A little cumbersome to fill (not a lot of room when using larger bottles)

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Twister 30W AIO directly through Freemax’s online store, or through one of the many stores around the world stocking Freemax products.

Conclusion

All in all, the Twister 30w kit has been fantastic! This is a neat little device, built sturdy and strong, with a lovely finish and it just simply works.

30 watts might not be for everyone, but for those lower wattage vapers, or MTL vapers, this is a perfect little device that will keep you vaping all day long with it’s 1400mah battery.

The coils are flavour bangers, and put out a nice rich dense vapour, even when using for mouth to lung vaping. The airflow adjustment is easy, and the range of airflow options really great. This is one tank that you’ll get a nice tight MTL draw from unlike many others that advertise it. If you’re after a genuinely tight draw, this will have you smiling.

Freemax, you’ve done a great job on this one, a quality vape that delivers everything that it promises! Well done!
