eLiquid Review: Wondermelon Berry Sour from the Smoozie range

Welcome back, this review is going to be a little different. I’ve been sent a range of flavours from Apollo, called the ‘Smoozie’ range. Now, these come in various sizes, styles and nicotine types so I’m going to tackle each flavour, but all styles and nicotine types under the same review. One review for each flavour, just extra headings.

If you’ve never heard of this range before, they’ve been out for a while now, created by Apollo Ecigs, a pretty big company in the USA also with a division in the UK so that Europe doesn’t miss out!

So far as I’m aware, there are 5 flavours in the “Smoozie” range which I’ll be reviewing here, each offered with and without cooling, and also with freebase nicotine or nicotine salts.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Wondermelon Berry Sour” from the Smoozie range.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
“When taste buds are in danger of boring flavors, Wondermelon Berry Sour is here to save the day!! A sweet yet smooth and easy to vape blend of watermelon, cantaloupe, and strawberries, Wondermelon Berry Sour will have you wondering why we’ve been hiding this sweet flavor this whole time!”

The Review

This entire range are fruity, super sweet, yet robust flavours that are easy to vape, working very nicely with most setups.

This one in particular is a melon blend, with the watermelon and strawberry being most prominent, whilst the cantaloupe (rockmelon) pulls up the background rounding things out without getting in the way of the sweeter and tarter fruits.

This is very much a sticky candy type of flavour. While not overly sour, the strawberry brings with it a little sharpness, a tart top end that resonates throughout the vape, complimenting the thick sticky sweetness.

“Wondermelon Berry Sour is a sweet and sticky candy watermelon/melon blend with sharper tart strawberries bringing some contrasting sourness!”

Individual Notes

The watermelon here is definitely a candy watermelon, quite sweet with an underlying sticky feel. Think sugary watermelon jelly candy and you’re on the right track.

The Rockmelon/Cantaloupe isn’t as dominant as the strawberry or watermelon, and is also not as strong as other melon blends. Where others often have a slightly earthy cantaloupe feel to them, this sticks to a lighter note avoiding any vegetal type of profiles or textures.

The strawberry is sweet and tart. Smoothly sweet to begin, building in tartness until your left with a sharpened candy strawberry, not far from a heart shape hard candy.

Of the variations with cooling added, the Smoozie range seems to all use WS23 instead of menthol, offering a chill without the menthol bitterness. The chilled range are cold, not quite as cold as typical Malaysian eliquids, but pretty close, so be careful not to take a huge rip with massive wattage!

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale I instantly notice the light watermelon and stronger strawberry. Even though the watermelon is quite light and also well known for being one of those flavours that often falls to the background, it seems to stand up quite well against the more dominant strawberry.

The watermelon is lovely and tends to stick to the strawberry, fading, yet never completely going away. I notice the strawberry increasing in intensity, until the very top of the exhale, where it turns a little tart, hitting me with a shaper sweetness, not unlike something you’d get from a sour candy, just not quite as sour.

On the exhale the cantaloupe appears, never really pushing to the front, instead wafting in and out gently at first, and staying very much a background flavour. Even though this is cantaloupe, the introduction of it blended with the tart strawberry gives me a bit of a honeydew vibe, tangy and sweet, yet robust and full flavoured.

As the exhale continues, the strawberry begins to dominate with the watermelon and cantaloupe creating their own backdrop, as more of a base pairing, allowing the strawberry to take the spotlight. This continues through until the end of the vape, where the entire profile finishes off with quite a candy like profile and sticky texture.

On all of the cooling variations, you’ll feel that chill fill your mouth and hit the back of the throat leading up to and at the top of the inhale the most, with a little residual coldness appearing through the exhale.

Final thoughts

The Wondermelon Berry Sour with Cooling won my heart out of all of the variations that I received, there is just something about adding cooling to this flavour that gives it that extra depth, and let’s face it, the flavour profile just suits having a little chill added.

That’s not to say the mix without cooling wasn’t great, because it was, and you can really get down and into picking the flavour apart with that one. I think this flavour really does work best with the cooling though.

In addition to the cooling I have to talk about the type of nicotine. Both types, freebase and nic salts, worked best with the cooling in my opinion, and each of the nicotine types worked really well for their respective setups. The freebase was fantastic in a tank and an RDA, and the salt nic, simply excellent through a POD or a MTL device. Plenty of flavour came through on my MTL setups, so much so that I’m suitably impressed actually.

Apollo’s nicotine is great, nice and clean, without any nasty flavours, and for the juice to actually stay clear even with the nicotine added, and oxidising, means it’s gotta be pretty clean right?!

I’m very impressed with the Smoozie range so far, very solid fruity, candy based flavours.

Well done Apollo!
