e-Liquid Review: The Bitey Pink Pear from Dutch Courage

It’s a sad day today, because we’re on the last of the Dutch Courage range of eliquids. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reviewing this range. The flavours are all a little left field, which I think is absolutely fantastic, and give me a bit of a challenge!

Born of the Vapoureyes family, Dutch Courage was designed to be a range of flavours to cater to those who love their mixers! With profiles and combinations such as Ginger & Bourbon, and Pineapple Whiskey Sour, these are not your usual blends, instead, something to tantalise those tastebuds and take you on a journey you’ve never been on before.

Today I’ll be reviewing “The Bitey Pink Pear” from Dutch Courage.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
Feeling a bit under the weather? A Pink Pear will perk you right up! Grab a measure of fuzzy gin, sour pink grapefruit, crispy pear, and a dash of orange liqueur to top it off. Smooth and balanced fruitiness awaits!

The Review

You know those e-liquids that just smack you with familiar flavour, the kind of flavour that gives off a deep, and complex vibe, while nailing the profile straight away. Well, this’ll do it for you.

More complex than you might realise, “The Bitey Pink Pear” will suck you in with it’s realer than real fresh pear profile, grapefruit and gin combo, sweet meets bitter in a powerhouse of a flavour.

“This flavour is more complex than you’ll realise, packed with fresh, juicy flavour, bitter and sweet blend to drive home a very dynamic profile”

Individual Notes

Straight away, you’ll note that the most obvious flavour is the Pear. And here is the thing, this is probably the most genuine pear I’ve ever tasted. It’s full of those textured pear notes, as well as being super juicy, very flavoursome. You are guaranteed to automatically dismiss all other pears once you have tried this.

Grapefruit is next, and as you’d expect, it has a little bit of a citrus feel to it, but most of all brings a dry bitterness to the party. This helps lift those pear flesh textured notes and provide some contrast against the lightly sweetened acidic pear profile.

I could stop here, because you’ll likely not notice these other two, but they are in the description so here goes.

Gin. It’s described as a fuzzy Gin in the description, but I’m not noticing it. I cannot stand Gin, so it’s a good thing I guess, but if you love Gin and are expecting this to be reminisce of one of your favourite Gin mixers, you might be a little disappointed.

Orange Liqueur. You’ll likely not notice this also. I certainly don’t, well not in it’s entirety anyway. It blends with the pear and grapefruit so seamlessly, you’d think that it is just part of that flavour combination. And that is exactly what it does. As a backnote, or a floating addition, it supports and bolsters the pear with a little extra citrus, a sharper more pronounced alcohol note, but most importantly bridges the flavours together, making this flavour really punchy.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is mainly dominated by the Pear, it starts off as a full on, juicy pear, likely so real that you’ll be taken aback straight away. I was.
As the inhale continues, so does the intensity and the Pear just gets better and better, taking on quite a bright and lightly syrupy feel, sweet and acidic, building it’s texture as it goes.

At the top of the inhale, you’ll get the orange, it’s a support flavour as mentioned earlier and just makes the Pear pop even more at it’s most intense. Extra sweet and acidic, this is the most flavoursome part of the vape, and you’ll want to keep puffing just to get this hit!

As you exhale, the pear and orange combo winds down a little and the syrup texture dries up as the edgy grapefruit kicks in with it’s dryer bitterness. Don’t get me wrong, everything is still quite sweet at this stage but it takes on a dryer feel, a more savoury feel.

Winding up to the end of the exhale, sees the syrupy texture suspend as the dryer, acidic/bitterness washes over it, finishing off with a small amount of grapefruit tying very nicely in with the sweet Pear.

Final thoughts

I’m genuinely impressed by this Pear. It’s fantastic, and despite it being a mixer, came across as more of a complex Pear vape than an alcohol offering or a mixed drink. In fact, I was so impressed with the Pear in this, it would be interesting to see Dutch Courage or (Vapoureyes) come up with a straight up Pear using the same concentrate, something just as syrupy, and sweet.

The flavour combination, sweet pear, blended with sweet orange, and bitter grapefruit, provides a lovely contrast, and really drives this home as a flavoursome and complex flavour.

As far as I’m concerned, Dutch Courage have knocked this one out of the park, the bottle is gone, because I’ve been vaping this one like crazy, and I’m still wanting my fix of this bloody fantastic Pear!

Well done guys! Excellent work!

Presentation:

Very nice branding from VE here. I received tinted 60ml Chubby Gorilla bottles with tamper proof and child-proof caps. The dispenser is your usual needle type so you can easily fill your favourite tank.
The labelling is lovely, with the juice range name front and centre, in an old school emblem logo. Marble background as well as surrounding geometric colour coded lines help separate the labels by flavour/colour combination.
All of your usual information is here, bottle size, ingredients, warnings, barcode, “formulated by JuiceBX in Australia”. The one thing I don’t see on here is the PG/VG ratio. But according to their website, it is 70/30.
Fantastic labels!

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
