e-Liquid Review: Pineapple Whiskey Sour from Dutch Courage

e-Liquid Review: Pineapple Whiskey Sour from Dutch Courage

Here we are, another day and another Aussie Eliquid Review for all of you flavour nuts!

This week has been a pleasure, taking a look at the Dutch Courage range of juices. Not only are they different, but tasty as well. I’m really enjoying running through this lot, and if you like unusual flavour pairings, or even just something a little left field of the usual fruits, and custards, you should give them a go too!

Today I’ll be reviewing “Pineapple Whiskey Sour” from Dutch Courage.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
Hey barkeep, can you sort me a Pineapple Whiskey please mate? Just get a solid shot of oaky and heart warming whisky, muddle some juicy pineapple and squeeze some lip puckering lemon in there. Cheers!

The Review

If you know me, I’m not a huge pineapple fan. I usually find them to be a little short of my expectations, with no real pineapple impact, with a much warmer fried pineapple ring, syrupy feel.

Not so here, Dutch Courage have done a wonderful job, layering the sweet and tart Pineapple over the base Whiskey notes, with a hint of lemon just to push that tang over the top for a great flavour intensity.

“Time to get tropical with this refreshing Pineapple Whiskey concoction, sweet, sour, and full of flavour, it’s a nice clean vape and full of zing! “

Individual Notes

The pineapple in this is the primary note, I know you’d probably expect the whiskey to be, but the pineapple really does steal the show, carrying through the entire vape and is the most noticeable flavour.
Unlike others, this one is bright, with a touch of tartness, still a little syrupy as you get with more realistic pineapples, but I’m impressed with the freshness of it, compared to many other pineapple eliquids.

The whiskey is quite nice, it’s an underlying note, a base note if you will, that’s not immediately noticeable, and something you really have to look for. It’s a sweet whiskey, more of a bourbon, with light grainy feel.

The lemon, is a fantastic addition here. It brightens the pineapple and really pulls the taller notes out. A little tart just like the pineapple, but fresher, with a little bit of a tangy fizz to it.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, a blend of the background sweet whiskey/bourbon and slightly tart pineapple kick off from the very beginning.
As always, they’re light at this point and gradually increase in intensity as you inhale further. As you get closer to the top of the inhale, the flavours change a little, maturing, with the pineapple getting stronger, but in a taller, fresher way, and the whiskey keeping the sweetness and light complexity to the backnote.

Things come to a head at the top of the inhale, with the pineapple taking on a slightly sour, or tart feel, still bright, much brighter than other pineapples I’ve tried. It almost pushes past getting to a more ripe pineapple, and then you exhale.

As you exhale, the pineapple is hit by an extra bitter/tart combo in the lemon, bolstering it’s fading brightness, with some tang and offering up a fizzy texture.

While the whiskey is still here all the way through, it’s the pineapple and lemon that take this flavour to another level bolstering each other, and propping up that light, tartness and fresh feel right through to the end of the vape.

Final thoughts

I usually cannot stand pineapple flavours but this one gets my tick of approval, for pushing those brighter notes, instead of dulling off like many others do. I think the lemon plays an important part in this adding a little fizz, and tart sweetness, keeping the pineapple from ripening and generally keeping everything light and tangy.

I love that the whiskey is not in your face. It’s a back-note, kept in the background allowing the pineapple and lemon to pitch the sweeter and tarter flavours, while it sits back and provides the grainy base.

Excellent work here guys. A fantastic pineapple mixer!

Where to Buy:

This flavour and the rest of the Dutch Courage range can be purchased from the Vapoureyes Online Store, the Vape Traders website for wholesale, as well as any of their many stockists around the country.

Colour:

Clear

Aroma:

Sweet Pineapple

Coil and wick damage:

This is a pretty clean flavour that won’t darken your wicks too quickly.

PG/VG Ratio:

70VG/30PG

Texture:

Sweet and sticky, refreshing and bold.

Steeping:

Its probably a good idea to let this steep for a little while. A long steep isn’t necessary.

Presentation:

Very nice branding from VE here. I received tinted 60ml Chubby Gorilla bottles with tamper proof and child-proof caps. The dispenser is your usual needle type so you can easily fill your favourite tank.
The labelling is lovely, with the juice range name front and centre, in an old school emblem logo. Marble background as well as surrounding geometric colour coded lines help separate the labels by flavour/colour combination.
All of your usual information is here, bottle size, ingredients, warnings, barcode, “formulated by JuiceBX in Australia”. The one thing I don’t see on here is the PG/VG ratio. But according to their website, it is 70/30.
Fantastic labels!

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
