The Review

I’ve tried a few coffee based flavours over the years, and the one thing that always bugs me is that they’ve all had that bottom of the cup grounds taste to them. Usually a little bitter with a grit to them.

While “Pistachio Latte” does have that, it’s minimal, and you’ll likely not notice it over the more dominant notes.

To me, this is more of a dessert than a coffee, the flavour percentages are fantastic, allowing maximum flavour without any odd or overbearing notes. A light coffee lies in the background while a smooth and creamy pistachio/almond fall to the front with quite a depth of flavour!

Sweet cream, vanilla, coffee and Pistachio’s all make an appearance in this flavour, marking it a little bit of a coffee/dessert pairing, with rich smoothness and a lingering creamy texture.

Individual Notes

First up, the pistachio, is not really a pistachio. If you’re expecting that organic nutty flavour, a little salty, you won’t get that here. This nuttiness is a little more almondy. Somewhere between your usual hazelnut, Acetyl Pyrazine, almond nutty combination. Granted, it’s lighter than most buttery hazelnut flavouring, but is much more toasted almond than pistachio. I see what Frank & Atticus have done here, and it’s not incorrect. Many Pistachio based desserts do in fact use almond extracts to mimmick Pistachios.

Lets get to the second main ingredient. The coffee. As I’ve found with other coffees, this one is a little bitter (which it should be) but also has that gritty grounds texture and feel to it. Not completely unwelcome, but you’ll be left thinking that it’s just not quite right. There is an upside here, the coffee is not overly strong, which allows the other notes in this to push it into the background a little, masking that gritty grounds feel.

Creams, yep, there’s cream in here, and its a sweet buttery cream, very desserty and thick, which really does make this flavour. Blending the pistachio/almond with the coffee is an important part of this eliquid, and this smooth and silky marshmallow like cream does it’s part very well.

I noticed that Vanilla, and Milk Foam were mentioned in the description, but I really don’t get that vibe here. The vanilla, sure, I definitely notice a vanilla here, it helps add that silkiness to the cream and helps it blend the nuts and coffee together, but milk foam. Nope, not getting that note at all.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I pickup light coffee notes with a smooth sweet cream and a slight toasted caramel coming through. There is no caramel in this but the creams, nuts and coffee together do create a very toasted sweet syrupy caramel as a bit of a bi-product.

At the top of the inhale, is where you’ll get the most intensity, and it’s here where you will notice that warm espresso coffee feel, as you get that full coffee profile come through.

As you begin to exhale, the coffee winds back a little allowing the creams and almond like nuts to come back to the forefront with their almost marzipan/caramel tones, and complex sweetened flavour.

The end of the exhale will see you noticing quite a drop off in the coffee and a very real nutty nougat, marzipan, caramel type of feel blended with cream. Quite complex, and very tasty!

Final thoughts

I’ve just read through my review so far and what I’ve written, and can understand how many of you might be confused by my ramblings on this one. Did he like it? Is it a great flavour? Does it match the description?

I have loved vaping this one! It’s a great flavour. It does fall short on the description unfortunately.

I can appreciate that many “Pistachio” desserts, really are similar to this in that they carry a more almond-esque flavour to them than real “Pistachios”, but a Pistachio it is not.
I can also appreciate that it’s going to be a little difficult to get the pistachio right in everyone’s minds. Some think of them as salty treats that come in shells, others have a sweeter nutty blend in mind when it’s mentioned. This one is definitely the latter, a sweet, nutty cream, almost marzipan and marshmallow with coffee undertones. So to be even more ambiguous, does it match the description? Yes and No (lol).

Regardless of all of that, this is a very tasty flavour, it has depth, dimension, and runs the length of the flavour scale, with sweetness contrasting with bitterness, and a smooth as silk texture.

I’ve very much enjoyed this one, and my hat’s off to Frank & Atticus for pushing the boundaries with this one, as well as with their other flavours.

Great work guys!
