eLiquid Review 517: Caramel Glazed Doughnut by Frank & Atticus

Welcome back, today I’m going to be taking a look at another dessert based flavour from Frank & Atticus, quickly becoming (in my eyes) one of the best dessert ranges going around at the moment.

Frank & Atticus don’t just blend your everyday flavour, this range is purposely flooded with unusual ingredients and left field blends, pushing the boundaries a little when it comes to flavour profiles. I love this about them, and let me tell you, they do a damned good job of it too!

Enough gushing from me, let’s take a look at the one I’ve been vaping on the last few days!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Caramel Glazed Doughnut” from Frank & Atticus.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

The Review

If you’re expecting an old school doughnut here, you’re going to be sorely disappointed! The key to this flavour is in the name, more precisely “Dough” – nut.

Yep, this caramel doughnut, is very very doughy, more fresh dough, than a doughnut should be! In fact, if you were to compare it in real life terms, I’m finding that this is very much like a “Krispy Kreme” doughnut than an old school “Balfours” offering.

Remove any of your old school doughnut expectations. Throw a blank Krispy Kreme doughnut in your mouth and feel that caramel glaze crumble in your mouth, this is what “Caramel Glazed Doughnut” is 🙂

Individual Notes

The main flavour in this profile is the doughnut, and it’s the dough that really makes it happen. Gone are the days where you’d get a sweet bready doughnut, the gourmet desserts of today are a lot sweeter, very doughy, and much heavier than their counterparts. The dough in this is quite like a batter, a sweet yeasty mix that resembles a cookie batter rather than an old school doughnut.

The caramel, is a light whisping of sweetness that washes over the dough, creating a light yet sugary sweet glazed feel, not a syrupy caramel consistency, more, rolled into the glaze.

There is a lot more going on in this flavour, more than I’d be able to pick out, as I believe its a minute amount of this and a tiny bit of that, but it all combines to create this one tasty dessert, that is rich, heavy and sweet.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I notice the smooth batter first of all. It’s not a bready dough, more a sweet raw cookie dough. It’s light at this point too which suits, as you wouldn’t want it to get any more batter-like. As the inhale progresses, the flavour intensifies, with quite a depth of flavour that is difficult to describe. It’s a sweet blend of dough, a little yeasty, a light toasted note, and of course a very light caramel coming through, barely there at this point.

Once you reach the top of the inhale and get onto the exhale, things continue to intensify, with the yeasty dough staying at the same level, and the toasted caramel note becoming more pronounced. It is still very light, and very much a sugary sweet caramel glaze, with only the smallest baked or roasted feel.
As the exhale continues and right through until the end of the vape, the depth of this flavour really hits a fantastic place, the dough blending with the caramel really sets the scene for a robust vape, and quite a mouthful of flavour to get your taste-buds around.

Final thoughts

I was totally not expecting this flavour to be like this. When I first tried it, the expectation of well baked or deep-fried doughnuts came to mind, something with a little bit more of a substantial bready feel to it was already in my head.

My expectation was so, that as soon as I took that first puff, I immediately dismissed it and checked the label of the bottle again!
Surely this can’t be right? But then I realised, this is not a doughnut in the traditional sense at all, this is a sweeter, doughy, flavour. A modern take on an old favourite, and in this regard, Frank & Atticus have done a wonderful job.

This flavour is a massive hit of fresh dough, in fact it may be too much, and I noticed that it came across as more of a raw dough at times, rather than the cooked doughnut it should be. I also notice that the caramel is not very pronounced, I can only assume that was done to avoid the caramel overtaking the dough, which is a sound strategy. I did however expect there to be a little more caramel to it though, so I’m going to mark that as a little bit of a disappointment.

All in all, this is a very tasty flavour, full, robust, and even has quite a depth to it. It’s sure to satisfy most dessert vapers, just like me, looking for that rich doughy feel.
Do expect this to be a very sweet, raw doughnut rather than a heavier bready one.

Great work guys!
