eLiquid Review 519: Mentholicious – Aurora by dRiip

The thunder and lightning was incredible last night, and the rain, probably the hardest I’ve seen it rain over the last few years. It’s not so cold today, but I hear it’s going to be wet and cold all week long.

And so, of course, I’m also onto the chilliest of eliquids I’ve vaped for a long while too. (Yep there’s no warmth in sight for me!)

“Mentholicious” is the name of this juice range, and let me tell you, they definitely live up to the name, these flavours are chilly!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Aurora” from the dRiip Mentholicious range.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
Raising Borealis’ stakes comes Aurora, with cool minty freshness and a subtle blueberry hit, into an exhale of soft and sweet raspberry.

The Review

If you’re into fruity, minty vapes this one is definitely for you! It’s ice cold but the berries still come through with full flavour intensity.

Blueberry and Raspberry work wonderful together, and this candy menthol vape is no exception. You won’t get realistic berries here, it’s hard candy blueberry and hard candy raspberry all the way.

Aurora is a wonderful Raspberry/Blueberry hard candy with a blast of cold menthol, creating a sweet and tasty fruit losenge flavour!

Individual Notes

There isn’t really a lot going on in this one. It’s all hard candy and menthol, a little shallow in depth, but after all it is a candy vape!

The blueberry candy takes care of the lower note, sweet and rounded, with a slight floral grounding the flavour. It’s a hard candy as opposed to a jelly candy, definitely no gummy notes here at all.

The raspberry is very similar to the blueberry, a little sharper, and with a juicier fruit flavour to it, it’s still a hard candy. No gummy notes here either, just a sweet hard candy, the kind you’d chip your teeth on as a child 🙂

The menthol here is a blend of menthol, and WS23, it’s cold, far too cold for menthol alone, yet it does have that slightly bitter menthol note in it.
I also feel like sometimes I get a little bit of a spearmint from it, but thats likely to be my mind playing tricks on me!

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale and exhale on this one are very much the same. Obviously the inhale is less intense in flavour, but the flavour of both of the candies comes through just fine. The blueberry and raspberry candies, have a tendency, to not blend together perfectly, which is great, because you get this sort of double berry hit while each is dancing around the other. One second it’s strong and sharp raspberry notes, the next a duller sweeter and lower blueberry candy appearing.

They both work wonderfully together in that regard, not blending but both complimenting.

At the top of the inhale, you’ll notice the sharper, slightly tart raspberry the most, as well as a nice cold chill from the WS23, until you exhale, and both the blueberry and raspberry take solid turns dominating, with a light spearmint, and menthol bitterness appearing right at the back of the mouth, giving things a bit of a throat lozenge feel.

Don’t puff this one in rapid succession, you will get a big chill!

Final thoughts

I love these types of flavours, candies are great. Perhaps not so easy to review, because there really is only so much you can say about them, but they work, they’re usually packed with flavour, and you can blend pretty much any other type of candy with them to come up with some great combinations.

Would I change anything? Probably not, the flavour level on this one is at a great intensity, and balanced quite well, with candies that work really well together.

I’ve enjoyed this one very much, (even if it’s bloody freezing!), it has a fantastic sweet candy vape.

Where to Buy:

All of the dRiip branded flavours are available directly from the Vape98 Online store and also from their physical store. You can also pick them up from a few other online stores that stock their range of juices.

Colour:

Light honey tint

Aroma:

Blueberry / Raspberry

Coil and wick damage:

I’ve had a little darkening of coils and wicks with this one, but it hasnt happened overly quickly. So even though there is a little sweetener here, it’s not too destructive.

PG/VG Ratio:

70VG/30PG

Texture:

Sweet, light and fruity

Steeping:

No steep necessary for this one!

Presentation:

The presentation of these bottles is quite professional. I received tinted 60ml Chubby Gorilla styled bottles with child proof, sealed cap and needle tip. The labels are well done with colours, fruits and imagery depicted depending on the flavour with the brand, juice name and Mentholicious title prominently displayed.

Other information on the labels includes: Additional warnings, ingredients, PG/VG ratio, bottle size, zero nicotine declaration. I like seeing all of this info on bottle labels!

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
