eLiquid Review 521: Mentholicious – Coriolis by dRiip

I’m back again, with another flavour from dRiip. This is another from their Mentholicious range, which is designed to chill, really chill!

Of the few that I’ve tried so far, this Mentholicious range is cold. It’s both chilly on the inhale and the exhale, so if you’re a menthol lover, you’re going to get a kick out of this range.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Coriolis” from the dRiip Mentholicious range.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
An inhale of sweet passionfruit and mango is met with an exhale of tart pineapple and calm coolness.

The Review

This one is a little unusual, all yellow fruits, but all 3 have completely different profiles. This is definitely a flavour for those who like very full flavoured, tangy, fruity mixes, and a love of pineapple is most definitely a must have!

Sharp tangy pineapple, contrasts the sweet syrupy mango, with a slightly bitter sweet passionfruit pulling them both together for a very tropical profile.

Coriolis is a full on tropical profile, with tangy pineapple, smooth, syrupy mango, and an underlying juicy passionfruit pulling everything together.

Individual Notes

The pineapple is sharp, tangy, citric, and quite strong. It’s not a warm or stewed pineapple, but instead a fresh bitey fruit that will hit you straight away. I’m finding that this has a slightly dirty flavour to it. It’s not a completely clean pineapple, think fresh pineapple with a little over ripeness going on.

The mango is a nice pick. It’s sweet and syrupy, thick and juicy. How it binds with the pineapple is a little unusual and doesn’t quite fit, but as an individual note, the mango is great.

Passionfruit is the 3rd fruit in the mix, it’s another tart yet sweet fruit, with a slight floral to it, and works well in this mix.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, you’ll instantly notice the pineapple, it’s the main stay, the dominant note throughout the entire vape. Because of this you’ll likely notice it’s nuances more, and like me, pick up on it’s slightly over ripe feel.
This isn’t bad, just totally unexpected. That dirtier, not quite fresh pineapple puts this a little out of place, than it would have been as a completely fresh pineapple.

As you continue and get closer to the top of the inhale, you’ll begin to notice the passionfruit and mango. The mango first with its juicy, syrupy feel, and the passionfruit, right at the top of the inhale and flowing across to the exhale. Both of these flavours are sweet supporting notes that completely contrast on that over ripe pineapple further pushing it away from that fresh feel to more of a stewed slightly bitter pineapple.

On the exhale, the result of the pineapple being out sweetened by the mango is evident, and combined with the passionfruit, I’m finding that the bitterness becomes quite noticeable. The texture is smooth and syrupy, but the flavour profile is not.

As the exhale continues through to the end, the entire vape does smooth out a little, (this is also dependant on how long you’ve been vaping this flavour for) as you come to that ripe tropical feel with a very chilled finish.

Final thoughts

I’m in two minds about this one. While it successfully pulls off the tropical vibe, I can’t get my mind away from the over ripe pineapple. It just doesn’t quite fit.

It’s a sweet tropical blend, very cocktail-ish with a nice cooling effect that helps it along with a little punch.

Would I change anything? Sure, I’d definitely be looking for a fresher pineapple, and perhaps be revisiting the other fruits too, to try and brighten this one up a little and give it a fresher feel.

While I havent gelled with this one as much as I would have liked, I know that few of you out there would love this profile, especially you pineapple fanatics!

If you love pineapple and menthol, this one is for you!

Where to Buy:

All of the dRiip branded flavours are available directly from the Vape98 Online store and also from their physical store. You can also pick them up from a few other online stores that stock their range of juices.

Colour:

Light honey tint

Aroma:

Pineapple / Passionfruit

Coil and wick damage:

I’ve had a little darkening of coils and wicks with this one, but it hasnt happened overly quickly. So even though there is a little sweetener here, it’s not too destructive.

PG/VG Ratio:

70VG/30PG

Texture:

Sweet, and tangy

Steeping:

No steep necessary for this one!

Presentation:

The presentation of these bottles is quite professional. I received tinted 60ml Chubby Gorilla styled bottles with child proof, sealed cap and needle tip. The labels are well done with colours, fruits and imagery depicted depending on the flavour with the brand, juice name and Mentholicious title prominently displayed.

Other information on the labels includes: Additional warnings, ingredients, PG/VG ratio, bottle size, zero nicotine declaration. I like seeing all of this info on bottle labels!

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
