eLiquid Review 489: Hold the Door by Vape Wild

Here’s another dessert review coming to you of a flavour produced all the way over in Texas, USA. I have to admit, for a company focused on bringing flavours to budget conscious vapers they sure do put out some great flavours, and this one is no exception!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Hold the Door” from VapeWild.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]

Hold back your cravings for a deliciously sweet banana moon pie with Hold the Door.  Dessert e-liquid has been revved up with this classic twist on a long-time favorite of sweet bananas, tasty iced pastry crust and warm marshmallow with a hint of cinnamon.  Full of flavor and none of the calories!

Primary Flavors: Bananas, Pastry Crust, Marshmallow and Cinnamon

The Review

Banana isn’t my favourite, I’ve tried that many of them that they rarely make in impact on me, let’s face it, once you’ve had one banana based dessert you’ve had them all right? Actually no. That’s completely wrong!

“Hold the door” is a unique blend that bridges the gap between a thick rich and complex dessert and a sugary sweet banana candy.

Thick sticky marshmallow blended with realistic bananas and a licking of caramel and cinnamon blend brilliantly with lighter candy-like banana cream to create a unique combination of flavours that will have your taste buds wondering exactly what is going on!!

Individual Notes

There are two different types of banana here. One is a more realistic, deeper, complex banana, much like a stewed banana or what you might get in a banana pancake. Fleshy but slightly syrupy.
The other is a sweet banana cream, very much a candy just like those lightly powdered candy bananas we all love to chow down on!

There is also a caramel here, not always noticeable, but provides quite a rich sweetness and slightly burnt sugar feel. Blends perfectly with the realistic banana.

I can’t say that I notice the cinnamon a lot, it’s there more as a backdrop for the caramel and banana, contributing to that caramelised banana profile and a sweetness that adds even more dimension.

Theres also two aspects to the cream in this flavour, a fairly standard sweet cream that helps to thicken things up and add a little sweetness to the dessert side of things, and the even thicker and stickier marshmallow, that seems to simply hold onto that candy banana and push it even further on the exhale.

The bakery, or pie crust, is just that a pie crust. Not a traditional flaky crust, this one is very biscuity, doughy and very much like a cheesecake crust.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I notice the banana straight away. At this point it’s quite a deep almost realistic stewed banana. With it is a thick caramel and some very thick cream, with an airy feel, that is fairly sticky also which is I suppose where the marshmallow is most noticeable. A quiet pie crust is also present, a little sweet, but more of a dense biscuit crust than that of a flaky pie. This is quite a deep combination of flavours, very rich and dessert like. All of this intensifies of course, as the inhale continues.

At the height of the inhale, you’ll notice the banana shift slightly, as the caramel fades off, with the whole profile taking on a more candy cream feel.

Over to the exhale, this candy feel gets even more profound as the entire flavour shifts away from that rich and deep dessert to a lighter banana cream. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a dessert profile on the exhale, just not as complex or as 3 dimensional as it is on the inhale.

At the end of the vape you’ll find most other flavours drop off a little (not completely), leaving that sticky cream, and light candy banana cream to finish off.

Final thoughts

A very nice Banana Cream Pie, and a pretty good example of bringing together candy like sweetness and the thick rich dessert profile. That’s exactly what makes this flavour very different to many Banana Desserts, and I commend Vape Wild for putting it together this way. It shows that unique flavours can work, and that flavours do not have to stick to their traditional profiles.

I found that the switch between inhale and exhale, dessert to candy was a little subtle and would have liked it to be a little more robust on the candy side of things, I didn’t get a lot of that candy banana cream and think making it a little stronger would have gone a long way to mimmicking the sweet sugary icing.

Having said all that, this is a quality flavour that I’m quite happy with, it has a pretty good intensity and flavour, as well as a nice rich texture.

A job well done guys!
