eLiquid Review 462: Callahan – Dirty Harry Collection by Juice Hero

The next few juices that I’ll be reviewing, might be familiar. They’re stocked in a lot of vape shops, particularly in South Australia, and are known for their tobacco flavours amongst their several eliquid brands. 

The first juice that I’ll be reviewing is something that many newcomers seem to gravitate to, in order to replicate their smoking experience as closely as possible.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Callahan” from Juice Hero’s “Dirty Harry Collection”.

Flavour Description

American bourbon tobacco smoothed out with a touch of vanilla.

The Review

Tobaccos are a difficult one to get right. As I’ve always said, juice makers are at the mercy of the concentrate manufacturers, and they seem to be more interested in replicating the smell of tobacco rather than the actual taste. Because of this, juice makers can only get so close, often having to compromise a lot when creating tobacco flavours.

Juice Hero have done an outstanding job with “Callahan”. Despite the concentrate’s limitations, they’ve managed to create a realistic sweet virginian tobacco, with a light smokey feel and hints of vanilla and bourbon. 

Individual Notes

Everything here is light. Blending together to create the one, standout tobacco. Delicately blended, you’ll notice the subtleties as you spend more time with this one, and if you’re familiar with tobaccos, appreciate what they have done with it.

The tobacco is a light and sweet virginia style tobacco. Slightly grassy, and earthy with that unmistakeable muskiness, it is dense, sweet and slightly smokey.

Vanilla fills a lot of this flavour, adding a bit of a floral, creamy feel, helping to thicken things up, and provide that full mouth feel.

Bourbon is the last to be mentioned here, it’s a light touch, but works so very well against the tobacco, it creates an almost caramel taste against it, sweet yet robust, adding a richness that the tobacco can’t achieve by itself.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is of course instant tobacco, its a sweet virginian tobacco, with a grassy feel to it, quite damp, or musty, and very organic. Most tobaccos have this, and while it is present on the inhale, it really is only there when you initially start vaping it, the taste-buds seem to get used to it quickly, and you won’t notice it so much. Getting stronger as the inhale continues and along with the tobacco, you’ll get hints of vanilla. Sweet and a little floral, the creamy vanilla notes fill the profile in, and provide that little bit of thickness and full mouth feel.

Over to the exhale, the tobacco seems to stay at its maximum intensity, while the vanilla continues to intensify a little, all the while introducing a richer feel to the vape by way of the bourbon. This sweet bourbon also adds a caramel feel to the vape, some extra complexity, and decadence that all tobaccos should have. It’s a sharper note, but at the same time feels like it’s providing a balanced base note, further bolstering that tobacco feel.

Final thoughts

I’ve really enjoyed this one. Normally tobaccos aren’t really my thing, and I tend to only vape them for the minimum amount of time that I need to  get a good idea of what they are like, but I’ve found that this one has performed really well, and I just haven’t had any reason to change it out!

When you first vape this, you’ll find that it’s extra grassy, has a very organic feel to it (something that many tobaccos have) which can be a little unpleasant, but persistence pays off, and you’ll find that goes away quickly, making way for a more smokey experience, a little dryness as you’d expect, with undertones of sweet vanilla, and rich bourbon.

The only thing I’d change is to try and minimise that initial grassy taste, that is an issue for me with many tobaccos. Unfortunately it seems, not such an easy task as so many have it.

Besides this, a great job on a genuine tobacco. Good job guys!

Very nice presentation here. I recieved dark tinted 60ml Chubby Gorilla styled bottles with child proof, sealed cap and a needle tip dispenser.

Juice hero have done a wonderful job with the labels, the collection name and juice name are front and centre, with nice professional graphic backgrounds.

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
