eLiquid Review 461: Johnny Utah by Tempesta Anteriore

The last flavour from Tempesta Anteriore fared quite well, and being cola, put it right up there with some of the more well known cola flavours available in Australia today.

Not bad for a small e-liquid company based out of Melbourne! This next one is a completely different profile, it’s a little creamy, thick textured, with a sweet mint and an ice cream profile!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Johnny Utah” by Tempesta Anteriore.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

Dessert undercover, a smooth vanilla mint ice cream, with faint sprinkles of milk chocolate and a tasty wafer cone.

The Review

I really don’t know what it is about this one. There’s a heap of other choc mint, or vanilla mint e-liquids out there, but I’m finding this is fantastic.

We all know who Johnny Utah is, he is Keanu Reeves’ character in the movie “Point Break“, however I’m not quite certain what exactly the connection is to him with a Choc/Vanilla/Mint flavour.

Despite the obscure reference, “Johnny Utah” from Tempesta Anteriore, is a sweet and thick Vanilla Ice Cream, with a hint of milk chocolate, the tiniest bit of wafer and a light mint/menthol to give it a bit of a sweet chill.

Individual Notes

The vanilla in this flavour is quite strong, it’s a little floral, but enforces the Ice Cream profile of this juice. You’ll notice the vanilla throughout the vape.

The ice cream is very creamy, a little thicker than a sweet cream, but not quite as rich as a vanilla bean ice cream. Sweet and full textured, this makes up that thick silky mouth feel.

The milk chocolate in this flavour is just right in my opinion, rather than trying to get the chocolate to a dominant level, Tempesta Anteriore have ensured that the chocolate is a complimenting note, rather than dominant, and in doing so and mixing with an ice cream base, have created a very nice milk chocolate feel. Probably one of the better chocolate based flavours that I’ve tried for a long time!

As well as milk chocolate, there is also a little wafer here. Not dominant and only a light note, you’ll likely notice the texture before the flavour, with it’s slight dry nature, which adds a little bit of a pastry feel to the ice cream.

I can’t really decide which mint is used in this, it could be a light peppermint and menthol, it could even contain spearmint, however it’s not apparent which one, I’m leaning toward a little bit of everything, menthol included. The mint is at a great level though. Strong enough to be noticeable, but not too strong as to take over the entire flavour. It simply adds an extra level of texture to an already great mix.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, you’ll firstly notice the vanilla, it’s actually already quite strong at this point, but sets the tone for the rest of the vape. This one has a lot of vanilla! It of course intensifies as the inhale continues as well as being joined by a lower bottom end ice cream feel. The cream is quite dense, sweet and also adds an extra layer of vanilla itself, really driving home the fact that this is a vanilla ice cream based flavour.

The last note you’ll find on the inhale is a little mint. More of a very light menthol at this point the mint, is slight, and is literally just a split second of coolness at the top of the inhale.

Over to the exhale, the vanilla and thick ice cream continue, not really getting any stronger but sticking around with a bit of persistence, as you begin to notice traces of milk chocolate begin to show. This milk chocolate brings with it a little richness, a fuller sweetness that finishes off the vanilla ice cream quite nicely. And best of all, this milk chocolate actually feels like a milk chocolate! Not the usual dominant cocoa like you get with so many other eliquids. This gets stronger briefly, as a little bit of wafer presents itself offering a slightly dryer finish as the menthol gets a little more noticeable again for the big finish.

Final thoughts

This one is probably one of the best choc mint based flavours that I’ve had. The difference between strong chocolates and this subdued chocolate is light and day, with this one seemingly being milkier and less cocoa based than others. The strong vanilla helps a lot in making sure that the chocolate does not override the rest of the mix, which was obviously a very good move.

Also subtle is the wafer and the mint. More complimentary flavours they blend with the rest of the profile really well, and act more as supporting flavours, boosting the complexity and the tone of the entire vape.

If I were to change anything, I might drop the vanilla a little, it can become quite rich, but other than that, this is a brilliant mix.

Very nicely done guys!

Where to Buy:

You can purchase this flavour as well as many of their others directly from the Tempesta Anteriore website/store or through their various stockists.

Colour:

Honey tinted

Aroma:

Chocolate / Vanilla

Coil and wick damage:

No issues with gunking coils, the wicks will darken slightly though.

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Sweet, thick, creamy

Steeping:

Steeping will be good idea with this one due to the vanilla and ice cream.

Presentation:

This juice arrived in a 60ml dark tinted “Chubby Gorilla” styled bottle, with red cap and childproof ring.

There is also a needle tip dispenser on top of this bottle, the genius bit of this however, is that the actual nozzle can be unscrewed, allowing you to easily add nicotine via another thin nozzled bottle directly to it. A great idea that also makes adding nicotine to incredibly difficult chubby gorilla bottles, a heck of a lot easier.

The label has a very dark background with Keanu Reeves (John Wick/Johnny Utah) likeness on it with the Juice name prominently displayed.

There are a few warnings on the label too, mainly “Keep out of reach of children”, ingredients, that sort of thing. It does lack a little on the label information. One thing that I did also notice, is that the logo for “Tempesta Anteriore” is also not present, not at all. The website is listed, but no sign of their logo anywhere… strange.

They are very nice looking bottles and labels however, distinct and instantly recognisable.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
