eLiquid Review 496: Avery from CrackerJack eLiquids

We’re onto the third of the four eliquids currently available in the CrackerJack eliquid range today. This one is not your typical dessert, it’s a very pronounced flavour combination and definitely true to their mantra, of “creating flavours with a more adult palate in mind”.

Very polarising and a little more complex than a straight dessert, this raisin, ice cream and rum blend will have some of you screaming for more, and likely others running as far away as you can get.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Avery” from CrackerJack Eliquid.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]

“Rum, the classic pirates drink of choice, mixed with raisins, and a dash of ice cream. A treat worthy of praise from the king of pirates himself.”

The Review

As I eluded to earlier, not everybody is going to jump on board with this profile. There are raisin/sultana lovers and haters of even counts, and considering that these fruits are a massive dominant part of this eliquid, there are going to be mixed reactions.

Personally and fortunately, I’ve an eclectic taste, and can appreciate many flavours even if I don’t immediately take to them, not that there is any risk here, because I’m one of those who like a bunch of raisins or sultanas from time to time. Blend them with some ice cream and rum, and well, that’s just a decadent dessert that I can appreciate!

Individual Notes

The Raisin/Sultana flavour is probably the most dominant note in this mix. You’ll immediately recognise it for it’s realistic dried grape tone and juicy full bodied center. A very accurate depiction of the real thing.

I don’t get a lot of rum in this. Just like “Oscar“, the slightly bitter taste of an alcohol comes through a little, but its far from being a considerably strong flavour and definitely not a primary one. A complimentary note that brings a little decadence and sweetness to the fray.

The ice cream here is an easy one to pick, the vanilla tone comes through quite well, providing a thicker, full and robust feel, making this the dessert that it is. The distinct creaminess from the ice cream and it’s vanilla bean feel, is instantly recognisable and works very nicely against the raisin.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale you’ll instantly recognise the raisin flavour, it’s juicy middle and dried grape like feel. With the raisin is a light rum, it’s a little sweet, and it’s the sweetness that ties in with the raisin, with an additional alcohol bitterness to it. This combo works really well and both of these flavours come together very well to create that fullness and slightly more savoury flavour before the ice cream hits it.

The two flavours intermingle and grow more intense, even if just a little, through the inhale until they reach their peak, at the top. I was a little disappointed here, as it really is a light touch and I feel would have made a much bigger impact with just a little bit of extra punch to it.

Over to the exhale, and in comes the Ice cream, it’s a definite vanilla bean ice cream with it’s slightly marshmallow feel, and sugary undertones. The vanilla also compliments the rum and raisin fantastically. It smoothes everything over, washing over the alcohol feel of the rum and blending it up with the raisin and itself to create that rich dessert feel and very creamy finish.

Final thoughts

Sultanas/Raisins/Currants are all complicated flavour profiles and this eliquid is no different. While I’ll admit this isn’t the flavour punch that I was expecting, it did bring the complexity that I wanted in the form of it’s light and fruity, slightly juicy nuanced raisin/sultana profile.

Throw in a very light dashing of rum, and a generous amount of vanilla ice cream to thicken things up a bit, and you’ll end up with this tasty, creamy blend.

All in all a great mix. Complex, decadent, just a little light on the flavour intensity is all. Bump the flavour up in this one guys and you’ll pretty much have yourself a 5 star flavour!
