eLiquid Review 495: Oscar from CrackerJack eLiquids

So the first of the CrackerJack eliquid line, turned out to be a pretty good blend. I really enjoyed it and I was particularly impressed by the contrasting flavours and how they reacted together to create such a unique flavour.

Today’s flavour moves away from the fruity finish and more into dessert territory. Since this juice line was created more for the adult or more developed flavour palate, this dessert should be right up my alley!

Let’s take a look.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Oscar” from CrackerJack Eliquid.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]

“A smooth blend of aged bourbon whisky and custard with a trace of coconut.
To quote Oscar Wilde, “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best”. Our bourbon custard is such a simple mix, but so very satisfying. The longer it’s left to steep, the smoother it becomes.”

The Review

Custards are typically the go to flavour for a lot of dessert vapers. It’s little wonder, because it works so well, with it’s thick creamy texture, and lightly spiced notes that provide quite a rich and complex vape all in the one base.

“Oscar” is all of that and more. Creamy spiced vanilla custard providing a lovely thick texture, balanced with a dash of slightly bittersweet bourbon whiskey and just a sprinkle of sweet coconut to help tie it all together. It’s a pretty simple flavour combination but with a big impact.

Individual Notes

The custard here is a pretty straight forward Vanilla Custard. Not really a unique blend or anything, just a straight up tasty vanilla custard. Very similar to what you will get with most other custard e-liquids. Thick and creamy with a little bit of that vanilla spice. The slightest floral, with a light dry feel to it.

The bourbon or Bourbon Whiskey in this is very light. I guess designed to be just a complimentary flavour and only a dash added, it isn’t very noticeable but does just that, compliments the custard, by giving it a slightly richer feel, with it’s not quite bitter, sweetness.

There is also a little coconut in this flavour, just like the bourbon, it’s only a sprinkling, sweet coconut flakes. Not sugary, lolly sweet, a more natural sweet coconut flake. This ties the custard and bourbon together really well, adding to the depth of the entire profile as well as the thicker texture.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale begins with the light custard notes front and centre. It’s a little thin at the beginning, but as the inhale continues, so does the flavour intensity along with it. The custard tones in the vanilla custard strengthen, all the while you’re gradually introduced to the light bitterness of the bourbon. A fresher sweetness is also on the rise at the end of the exhale, as the realistic coconut flakes make an appearance, countering the bitterness of the bourbon, and helping to bridge the gap between it and the creamy custard.

As you exhale, the coconut clings to the vanilla in the custard, making sure that the bourbon assimilates, while thickening up the custard even more, with it’s unique sweetness. I notice things flatten out a little here, all of the flavours are here, but the introduction of the coconut after the bourbon has created a sort of lull in the intensity, a dryness to the vape that is not always noticeable but does effect the dimension of this flavour.

Everything is rolled into the one rich profile at this point and the vape is driven home by rich vanilla custard base notes, well blended taller bourbon notes with an underlying fresh coconut subtlety that ties everything together.

Final thoughts

A great flavour! While this isn’t the most unique of profiles, the flavourings used are top notch and it’s been blended quite well.

The custard is as it should be, thick and creamy, lightly spiced with just enough intensity as to give you a really good mouthful of flavour without it being overbearing or overly rich. I’m really liking the use of the coconut to bridge the custard and the bourbon, its a subtle addition that helps add dimension and complexity.

What would I change? There is depth here, it’s absolutely obvious, I do notice a little dryness though which affects how complex this one feels.
I think a slightly stronger bourbon, and perhaps a touch of marshmallow might have brought this into the truly unbeatable category.

All in all, this one is quite impressive. A simple blend with a big impact.
