eJuice Review 371: Rollie Poly by Redback Vapery

This flavour stood out a lot when I received Redback Vapery’s juices. I was once a roll your own smoker, and loved to indulge in the various tastes and aromas that different brands had to offer. Is this supposed to be a ‘Roll your own’ flavour?

Let’s see what it’s all about!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Rollie Poly” by Redback Vapery.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor.)

Flavour Description

A smooth nutty infusion of three different types of industry standard tobacco’s. This e-liquid is reminiscent of classic virginia style tobacco.

The Review:

So you were hoping for a rollie flavour weren’t you? I have to admit, so was I. “Rollie Poly” has the name, but unfortunately that’s not the flavour. As the description states, it is actually 3 different industry standard tobacco’s blended into one. That all makes much more sense now that I’ve been vaping it for a few days, wondering what exactly was going on!

So we now know that it’s not a Roll your own tobacco style of flavour, I get that. That means that it must be what the creators have explained in the description? Well, that’s not quite right either unfortunately.

To me “Rollie Poly” is a sweet and grassy tobacco, with an underlying tea note, and a smokey finish.

Individual Notes

The tobacco is a little strange in this one. It comes across quite sweet. Redback Vapery also describe it as being a little nutty. Unfortunately instead, I’m getting green grassy notes from it, very much a wet and undried earthy or vegetal feel. Very very plant like.

There is also a distinct tea feel to this too. It’s not quite a green tea, and not quite a black tea, somewhere in between. There is a really familiar bitter and swampy feel to the tea, it’s not full on, but it is reminisce of tea notes.

The smokiness, is probably this flavour’s saving grace, there is a really great smokiness to this one, it’s a full textured, dry smoke, it really bridges the gap between the tea notes, and the sweet tobacco, but also, helps those notes disappear into the background bringing the smoke to the forefront.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is a little bit of a smokey rush, with those vegetal or tea notes also being quite dominant at the height of the inhale, at this point I also notice a little bit of a chill to this, it’s really really light, and definitely does not make this a menthol by far, instead just adding a little coolness, and creating some depth to the flavour.

At the turn of the inhale and onto the exhale, the tea and vegetal tobacco notes are strongest at this point. Thankfully this is where I begin to notice some dry almost woody smokiness appear. It very quickly takes over the vape, blending the greener tobacco and tea notes right into the background, leaving me with quite a genuine smokey tobacco finish.

Final thoughts

I really am in two minds about this one. Regardless of the description missing the mark, and the tobacco having that wet, vegetal or floral type of tea note in it, constantly vaping this allows those flavours to almost disappear as your tastebuds get used to them, and this actually isn’t such a bad flavour when that happens.

Unfortunately, getting used to a flavour, does not make it a good one. I do also know that many of my fellow vapers out there are not going to have the patience to give this one the opportunity for those ‘nice’ tobacco notes to appear. The instant the grassy tobacco and tea notes appear, will be the very same moment that most will have that WTF moment, and probably never vape it again.

I do really like that there was just a touch of menthol added in this. It’s very carefully added, and so little in fact you may not even notice it. It never ceases to amaze me some of the things that can be done with eliquid to give it some extra depth.

The smokiness on the exhale was this flavours most likeable trait, and I think that it was probably the one aspect that kept me vaping it for so long. The vape quality is also very good with this one, it is a smooth tobacco, so that makes things a little better. As my tastebuds got used to it, I did begin to enjoy this one, but vaping on a different flavour and coming back to this, also saw those unwanted tea like notes appear all over again.

Caveat Emptor: This is a totally polarizing flavour. You’ll either love it or hate it.

Colour:

Light honey tint

Aroma:

Grassy tobacco / Tea

Coil and wick damage:

No significant issues.

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Sweet and smokey

Steeping:

Give this one a nice long steep. The longer, the better for tobacco.

Presentation:

Quite nice presentation here. I received 30ml stubby chubby gorilla bottles with childproof caps, and needle tip nozzles. Some of the bottles are clear, others are smokey grey clear with the Redback Vapery label firmly affixed. The labels are white with splashes of colour, the liquid name, company logo, bottle size and vg/pg ratio. I would have like to see some warnings or standard ingredients list on here, the information on the labels is a little sparse.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
