eJuice Review 364: MAP! By Secret Bunker Vapour

Well, all good things must come to an end, and today is that day for Secret Bunker Vapour’s Shadow Series. This one is the last of the 4 in this range, and boy have these juices impressed me.

The first two just blew my expectations away, literally stealing the crown for, in my opinion, the best energy drink flavours in Australia. Okami, was next with it’s unusual spin on a raspberry mix, that just simply worked.

Now today, we have the final flavour to poke at! Let’s see what this one brings to the table!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “MAP!” by Secret Bunker Vapour.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor.)

Flavour Description

Too hot to handle, fresh deep fried apple pie, as you would find in fast food giant restaurant. The crisp outer goodness with soft warm inner apple filling will leave you licking your fingers. We recommend you try this while eating a soft serve.

The Review:

This was always going to be an interesting flavour, as soon as I put two and two together and realised what the M.A.P. name actually meant, I have to admit, I was intrigued. Could they actually pull it off, and how are they going to? McDonald’s Apple Pie’s have a history, with humble beginnings as a deep fried turnover type of dessert.

These days the Apple Pie’s are no longer deep fried, but astoundingly McDonalds seemed to have retained some of that unique flavour even though their pies are now baked, not only that, but the ‘turnover’ feel has stayed also.

I’m pleased to say that Secret Bunker Vapour are on the level, this is exactly what they have taken into account when creating this flavour, because “MAP!” is tasty combination of deep fried sweet pastry, slightly crispy, almost a puff pastry, with a wash of apple filling that has been cooked ‘just right’.

When you vape this juice, the apple really does give off the vibe that the hot apple filling, while cooked to a tasty consistency is still somehow complete chunks of apple, that you can chew through preserving the natural tartness of the apple.

Just like a turnover.

Individual Notes

The pastry here is light, slightly baked but with a very distinct fried ffeel. Not quite as thin as a puff pastry, but also not quite as dense as a baked pie would be.

The apple is delicious, a warm stewed apple, combined with fresh apple chunks giving the illusion of cooked apple that has retained it’s shape, quite a nice texture.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I immediately notice the apple, it’s obviously not at it’s highest intensity, at this time, but it is full flavoured, warm apple pie filling that you just can’t mistake for anything else. It does feel like there is a little cinnamon here, but I can’t be sure, it could be a sugary sweetness coming from the apple flavouring, or even a brown sugar added to give it that feel.

The pastry is here at this point too. Albeit, a very mild, and not very noticeable pastry, but I notice traces of it, with it’s lower range notes plucking at my taste-buds, teasing me into the exhale to come.

Onto the exhale, the pastry picks up a little here, and gets stronger as the vape continues, it is still light, and very similar to a puff pastry, never getting to the point of taking over the flavour entirely. It blends well, working in contrast to the apple, and creating a lovely fried background note.

It’s at this point the apple takes a turn, the once warm stewed apple, also picks up in intensity, but this time, it throws another nuance out at me. Its fresh, it’s a little tart and mimmicks the apple in an apple turnover perfectly.

You really can imagine the chunky apple pieces in your mouth while you vape this.

The end of the vape is a strong warm apple that is both sweet and tart, blending perfectly with the smooth tones of the fried puff pastry, that gradually fades off into a sugary after-taste.

Final thoughts

Secret Bunker have done a great job replicating not only the flavour, but the texture of a McDonald’s Apple Pie. Delicate, yet full flavoured, this dessert will have you picturing holding one of those famous cardboard apple pie sleeves in your hand whilst vaping it.

Well done in capturing the Apple Pie experience!
