eJuice Review 355: Mandarin Harvest by Hunting Cloudz

Today has me on the second of the Hunting Cloudz range of eliquids straight out of Aotearoa, meaning, “long white cloud”, a common Maori name for what the rest of us refer to as New Zealand.

The first of the series blew me away with it’s sweet realistic watermelon and chill factor, can we get a great follow up? I’m expecting big things from this range!

This time I’ll be reviewing “Mandarin Harvest” from Hunting Cloudz.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor.)

Flavour Description:

The gentle sun of Hawke’s Bay produces the world’s finest citrus, and the masterminds behind Hunting Cloudz have bottled them for your enjoyment. Sweet, juicy, bursting with flavour – delicious!

The Review:

So what should you be expecting from this juice? An in your face citrus, with a distinct sweet mandarin? It’s almost that.

Mandarin and also Oranges can be a pain in the butt to mix with, they have the citrus burst, but it quickly dissipates, leaving a less than enjoyable thin and slightly orange flavoured vape. It’s not quite this either.

“Mandarin Harvest” is very much right in between your expectation, and the reality of what is an orange or mandarin based eliquid. Hunting Cloudz have done a good job of boosting the mandarin in this juice, an even better job of getting the mandarin concentrates used mixed into a very true to life, and deep mandarin flavour.

What is still lacking is that lasting flavour, that punch in the face of flavour intensity that we are able to get out of any other mix than orange or mandarin. As I noted on before, It’s not their fault either. Orange/Mandarin concentrates from any brand, leave a lot to be desired.

So a waste of time then? No way, this has got to be the most accurate Mandarin flavour that i’ve tried. The mandarin is a deeper set flavour than many others, I haven’t used this word in my reviews before, but succulent comes to mind. It is a spot on Mandarin. Light on the flavour, but what is there, is juicy, and completely accurate right down to the hints of pith noticeable here and there.

Individual Notes

This is Mandarin, pure and simple. Besides indicating that I suspect a few different concentrate brands were used, and perhaps a touch of blood orange, there really isn’t a lot more to mention.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale instantly hits you with that familiar juicy mandarin nuance, on a really wet wick, it’s an intense flavour with quite a lot of depth. On a not so wet wick, its the same deep mandarin, but slightly muted as many eliquids are. I’m finding that the top of the inhale and beginning of the exhale are the stongest points of this flavour.

The crescendo hits early, perhaps this is what gives the impression that mandarin is not as intense as other flavours where they are strong throughout the vape.

On the exhale, the same mandarin notes are present, but some of the juiciness falls away, this is where I think I notice a touch of blood orange, as the citrus dissipates, there is a little powdery feel to the texture, it’s a real vitamin c vibe, more an orange than a mandarin.

As the exhale concludes, I’m left with a little sweet citrus aftertaste and a wanting for that initial mandarin bite that I get on the inhale.

Final thoughts

Will this flavour kick you in the teeth? No. But it will also leave you in awe of how very life like the mandarin is. I’ve enjoyed this one, obviously not as much as Watermelon Cooler, but this is quite a good vape.

I will note that this must contain some sweetener my wicks have discoloured as badly as they would with a chocolate, and my coils ever so slightly black and gunked. This was after one day of vaping, so take that into account too.

Citrus lovers, you’ll dig this one, and fruit lovers, you should try this too, for the depth of flavour alone.

Where to Buy:

You can check out the Hunting Cloudz range of eliquids from their website (https://www.huntingcloudz.co.nz/), and they can be purchased through VapourEyes AU (http://vapoureyes.com.au) and NZ (http://vapoureyes.co.nz) as well as a few other stockists around Australia, and New Zealand.

Colour:

Clear

Aroma:

Mandarin

Coil and wick damage:

I have noticed a little bit of coil gunking with this juice, it also discolours wicks to a syrupy colour.

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Light and sweet yet sour and citrus

Steeping:

Steeping is not necessary, but it may benefit.

Presentation:

Fantastic presentation here, Hunting Cloudz have paid attention to their labels with some snazzy bright graphics. These are sure to stand out when up on the shelf! I received 60ml Semi Transparent Chubby gorilla bottles with nozzle and child-proof caps.
They were already nic’d up as they were sent from NZ, and contained appropriate warnings, as well as all of the other good stuff, a label should have.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 ET coil from “Bombers Coils” on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
