eJuice Review 443: Tough Nuts by The Mixtress

We’ve had it of an adventure reviewing The Mixtress range of eliquid, there’s a fairly wide range of profiles, so your bound to find something you love!

But the fun has to stop some time, and today I’m on to the last of this range of flavours that I have here to review.

A completely different profile than all of the others that have come before it, get ready for a rich decadent vape with complexity for days, and delicately blended.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Tough Nuts” from The Mixtress
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

A powerful blend of sweet but punchy nuts finishing with a hard toffee tobacco twist.

The Review:

If you love your nutty vapes, then this one is definitely for you! “Tough Nuts” is a smashing of hazelnut, sweet toffee, with a backnote of tobacco that is both powerful, robust, and will really give your tastebuds a run for their money!

Individual Notes

The nut profile here is hazelnut, a little bit peanut, but very much hazelnut, with that slight dryness, and chocolate, syrup tone, it is deep, rich and very difficult to get your tastebuds to venture past.

There is a little toffee here too, not enough to take over the flavour, but just enough to add a little sweetness and bring a little caramel into the fray. Which is great, because it works really well with the hazelnut, and tobacco, bridging the gap and helping to smooth them together.

The tobacco, what can I say… It’s a backnote, not dominant at all, even though it is present throughout the entire vape. It bolsters the hazelnut with a little more dryness, and gives you that little bit of harshness at the back of the throat. I cannot tell which type of tobacco it is, but it’s dry, a little aromatic, with a little bit of a smokey finish.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that there may be a little coffee in here, I suspect it myself, but of course, it’s more likely to be the result of the blended hazelnut and toffee, which is quite an interesting thing in itself.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is mostly a blast of hazelnut, you’ll notice it combine a little with the toffee/caramel to create a very creamy, rich and thick inhale. As the inhale progresses you’ll find the toffee getting more intense, and the sweetness really coming out.

At the turn of the inhale and onto the exhale, the toffee and hazelnut are very much at their height flavour-wise, a very full on profile, and full mouth feel, makes this a very rich flavour. Joining these two now is the tobacco, gradually working it’s way in, almost layering itself between the two, bringing with it a little harshness, drying out the vape, and turning this sweet mix into a much more decadent yet savoury flavour.

Smokey tones and a little earthy feel really give this a lot more body, but also single handedly turn this nutty dessert on it’s head, making it a much more masculine and savoury mix, compared to what is experienced on the inhale. This combination brings about an almost coffee flavour, a little bitter yet sweet, and drives this home right through until the end of the vape.

Final thoughts

Honestly, this is a really good juice. I think a little more work could have gone into smoothing things out though as it packs quite a punch in the flavour department, and the notes can get a little muddled.

Having said that, this one was originally designed for MTL (mouth to lung) vapers, so naturally, is a little stronger. Through a less powerful unit, you’ll find a little more separation and that full on nuttiness is not as intense. This is not advertised as a purely MTL flavour, but I thought to mention it anyway.

I like how the nuts and toffee combined create an almost coffee note and richness, combined with a little tobacco, that flip things around between the inhale and exhale, almost giving you two different profiles in one flavour.

If you’re looking for something rich, something to sit back and enjoy for it’s masculine, and very strong flavour, after a hard day at work, this will definitely not disappoint.
