eJuice Review 438: Arabian Dreams by The Mixtress

Howdy folks, I’m reviewing The Mixtress range of eliquids this week, and today I’m onto the second of the six flavours that were sent to me.

It’s funny, I picked this one up thinking, what a cool name, I wonder what it is? Thinking that I’d be in for a treat, perhaps a tobacco, or some type of savoury dessert flavour, boy was I surprised when I took my first vape!

At first, the flavour completely threw me, it was floral, a little musky, and carried with it a powdered cocoa feel. It felt like two completely different profiles conflicting, an unusual blend that I just could not put my finger on.

Then I read the description …

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Arabian Dreams” from The Mixtress
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

An authentic rose turkish delight flavour with a smooth but subtle milk chocolate finish.

The Review:

As you read above, this one had me at a complete standstill. I remember vaping it just wondering exactly what it was that I was tasting. Was it a candy, was it a tobacco, was it a combination of them both? Perhaps it was on of those strange desserts that I’d never heard of nor tried before?

As it turns out, it’s a Turkish Delight. Let me begin by saying that Turkish Delight is not on my list of favourite sweets. It’s not that I hate it, I just don’t have much time for it, the texture doesn’t sit well with me, and my palate just can’t seem to appreciate the flavour.

Even though it is not in my list of “things to eat before I die”, I do know how a Turkish Delight is supposed to taste, both the traditional kind, and the more available chocolate coated, purple packaged kind, having been exposed to them at various functions, and friends encouraging me to try them “one more time”, “you might like it this time!”.

This is not the Turkish Delight that I remember. Well at least it wasn’t in the beginning.

Instead, I would describe “Arabian Dreams” as a strong Rose Water, sweet and very floral and musky with a conflicting almost chocolate, but very cocoa background.

Individual Notes

The rose, is rose water as we know it, albeit a very strong concentrated version, this has very floral and musky tones.

The chocolate, is a very dry, very cocoa, chocolate. I couldn’t describe it as a milk chocolate, or even a dark chocolate for that matter, its unusual, and very light, yet it affects the overall flavour immensely. There is an acrid, bitterness to it that makes me think of a dry, chalky chocolate, similar to what you would taste if you’d tried to eat some of last years Easter eggs that had turned white. (Yes I have done this, and no I’m not proud of it)

A dry and almost powdery texture is prevalent throughout this one, which comes across as a powdered sugar, at the same time seeming to come from the chocolate.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is a very bright rose note, not very sweet at this stage. A little floral and musky, both intensifying as the inhale continues. Building flavour as it goes, the Rose water is at a very good intensity at this point, in fact at the height of the inhale, there is a familiar gelatin turkish delight, a deeper profile lurking and accurate for a moment.

This does not last long in a lower powered device, the exhale takes on an instant perfume rose feel, with distinct musk notes as well as a huge floral overtone. Enter the chocolate, beginning as a cocoa note that progresses over the exhale getting chalkier as it goes, combining with the rose, conflicting with it turning the exhale into quite a dry experience.

On a dual coil cloud puncher, the gelatin/jelly texture comes alive, with it a light moisture completely the opposite of when vaping on low wattage.

Final thoughts

I did find this flavour interesting, and of course I wouldn’t say that it was horrible. Perhaps a little floral for my liking, and the chocolate just didn’t seem to live up to expectations, but I found it very vapeable specially on a higher wattage device, and definitely not an instant tank changer.

In it’s present state, I’m finding that this is more of a very floral/musky rose with a cocoa background, and to me, that just doesn’t quite work when vaping through a single coil under about 80 watts.

What I do think it needs is the rose dialed back a little, and some type of ‘gummy’ note. A glycerin, or thick gelatin feel to it to make the texture more familiar. I think this along with a different chocolate concentrate, really could have made this flavour sing and given things a more rounded out feel.

While that familiar jelly or gelatin based Turkish delight flavour does appear at the height of the inhale, it is for a brief time only unfortunately, I would really like to see some more of that moment in this juice, I want to see this sing just as well in a lower powered device as it does on a dual coil RDA.

As before, on a higher powered device you will not have these issues and will get quite a genuine Turkish delight flavour!
