eJuice Review 437: Desert Sunset by The Mixtress

eJuice Review 437: Desert Sunset by The Mixtress

I’m not sure how long these guys have been around, and I don’t have a lot of information about them, but I have managed to scrounge up that they are affiliated with The Vape Dungeon in Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Mel, who runs The Mixtress, brings a female touch to juice making which is primarily a male dominated industry and she’s damned proud of it. The Mixtress provides her very own unique and handcrafted range of juices, with a flavour for every palate, so you’re bound to find something you’ll love.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Desert Sunset” from The Mixtress
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

A prickly base of cactus with the added romantic softness of apple, citrus, guava and dragon fruit.

The Review:

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, for some reason I had thought that it was a tobacco flavour going by the name, but the first try had that idea thrown out the window! I can see why it’s named “Desert Sunset” now, and the reason is all in the one main flavour note!

Cactus! Cactus is all over this juice. It is one of the most noticeable flavours in this mix, with it’s distinct juicy floral, and signature tang. In fact all of the fruits in this blend, do share similar traits, all tangy, sweet, and typically lighter notes that by themselves probably wouldn’t be able to hold up as primary flavours, but combined…. they all work in unison to create an almost fruity candy feel, slightly fizzy, with a hell of a lot of zing!

To me “Desert Sunset” is a bright and fruity blend of cactus, guava, and apple that is juicy, bitter but sweet, tangy yet smooth, and has quite the dense candy feel to it.

Individual Notes

The volume of the cactus is bumped right up to 11 in this. Dominating this juice, and providing a bitter yet sweet, full bodied, earthy and bright, it works really well as a main flavour, which is of course blended with similar complimentary flavours to create this unique blend.

The apple is another strong note here, playing off of the slight bitterness of the cactus, this acidic fruit, lends itself to being more of a background note, that peers through the duration of the vape. A bright green apple, with sharp acidic and sweet notes, not quite sour.

Some more bitterness is added to the mix via the Guava, it’s a slightly sour, bitter guava with an underlying juiciness to it. It’s perfectly paired with cactus, and offers a slightly warmer floral note.

Here is your sweetness. Dragonfruit. Carrying on from the strong acidic and sweet apple, dragonfruit perfectly extends that same sweetness, countering most of the bitterness from the other flavours, helping to create a bit of a candy vibe.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is predominantly cactus here, there is a hint of apple quite early, which provides a little bit of a base for the cactus, with it’s thicker body and slight acidity. That ‘almost’ sour feel, has a great affect on the cactus, brightening it further and creating quite a clean vape.

At this point as always, the flavour is of course not at it’s highest intensity, but is a very solid inhale imparting a candy feel straight off the bat.

As the inhale comes to it’s tallest point, the slight sourness, bitterness and acidity, blend until the beginning of the exhale, where a little warmer floral from the guava is introduced, offering even more complexity for a time, and almost musk feel, until the sweetness from the dragonfruit gradually overrides any bitterness that was there before.

The exhale continues, and the fuller body remains, the floral guava notes get quite musky, thick and almost dry until the cactus and dragonfruit together bring back some juiciness and sweetness driving things home for the end of the exhale.

Final thoughts

I’ve enjoyed this one very much, and found myself hunting for that unusual candy effect that this has going on. If you get your wicks quite wet, and take a nice big pull, you’ll see what I’m talking about. The candy is very much like those fizzy necklace candies or rocket candies that you’d have as a child, but without the dryness, instead, the juiciness from the cactus washes any dryness away, leaving a really fresh fruit juice/hard candy feel.

I think this will make quite a good summer vape, it’s something that’s easily vaped all day long, you’ll just keep on filling up without even thinking about it.

Well done on this one!
