eJuice Review 435: Jungle Juice – Watermelon Strawberry Ice by Trio Vapes

Ok you lot, today I have something a little different for you. The company that brings us today’s eliquid, is not your conventional vape company.

Trio Vapes, is the vaping division of Trio Trading, a company that has been around for 20 years, manufacturing various products and whole-saleing them to Australian stores. They have a few eliquid brands under their belt, which are manufactured in China, and imported for sale here. You might recognise a few of the brands such as “Coffee Connoiseur”, “Royale”, “Vapour Head”, “Raw Organic”, “Vudu” and more, which are available from various tobacconists, and specialty smoking related stores.

The “Jungle Juice” range comes in 8 different flavours, all fruit based and retails for around $15 per 30ml, which is pretty much the standard here in Australia.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Watermelon Strawberry Ice” from Trio Vape’s Jungle Juice range.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

Refreshing watermelon and strawberries are blended together to produce this icy, sweet slushy that’s full of flavour.

The Review:

When I first opened this bottle and taste tested some of it on my finger, my thoughts were that this was going to be a nice fruity, flavoursome eliquid. The strawberry and watermelon were both fairly strong and there was a slight mint to it. The clearness of the liquid was a pretty big tell that this might be a fairly clean juice, something that might be sweet but not trash my coils or wicks at all. While the latter was true, on taking my first toot of this one, things got a little more, what’s the word I’m looking for….. “intense”!

This flavour is strong. Really strong. “Over-flavoured mess” came to mind initially mainly because I have sensitive tastebuds, but after vaping it a while, I’m realising that it doesn’t project the normal soapiness that an over-flavoured liquid would have. Yes, it’s strong, this one will hit you like a tonne of bricks, but there is also an interesting effect that happens with this blend of flavours being such an impact.

If I were to write the description, “Watermelon Strawberry Ice”, is a very strong, tart and obtrusive flavour that takes on a real artificial strawberry and watermelon feel, reminiscent of strawberry breath mints. I’m sure you all know what I mean, you’ve all been to the supermarket and purchased breath mints in strange and unusual flavours. This is the strawberry version.

Individual Notes

The strawberry is the dominant flavour by far. It’s artificial, sweet and tart. The sharpness of this candy strawberry highlights the intense sweetness and artificial nature of the profile. You’ll get no real fruit here!

The watermelon, while having a lower and broader note, is subdued by the strawberry, imparting an almost powdery texture. This is just as artificial and candy as the strawberry with it’s sweetness and tone coming through at times just to remind you that it’s there.

There is also a mint here, I can’t be certain whether it’s a standard menthol, or perhaps a spearmint, I’m finding that this adds to the powdery texture a little, and it’s also sweet, so a spearmint would fit. Combined with the strawberry and watermelon, this mint creates a real breath mint feel.

Inhale & Exhale

You’ll get an instant tart yet sweet strawberry hit on the inhale, there’s a little mint at this point too. It really does set the stage for the rest of the vape and your assumptions of the flavour straight off the bat. The strong artificial strawberry hits you hard, with the addition of the mint only pushing that envelope even further into slightly over-flavoured territory. The inhale peaks with the mint at it’s most intense, and the strawberry tartness and sweetness in equal measures pushing through your tastebuds.

Over to the exhale, the strawberry and mint continues, while a subtle candy watermelon appears. As the strawberry mellows a little and the watermelon gets stronger, things even out a little. Still very candy, sweet, tart and artificial, the watermelon brings with it a powdery texture, as well as a the lower watermelon note, while the strawberry persists, pushing the artificial sweetness out to the end of the vape.

Final thoughts

I’m completely in two minds about this juice. While I can’t call it bad, I can say that the impact of the flavour for me is a little intrusive. I’ve never liked the flavour or texture of fruity breath mints, so that may have swayed my opinion a little.

I do find it interesting that the packaging and description elude to a more fruity profile, something tropical or juicy, where this really is more of a mint and an artificial one at that. Slushie definitely not, Strawberry/Watermelon breath mints, absolutely.

If you love your mints (my wife does) you’re probably going to fall in love with this one, specially if you love really strong flavours. If you don’t, well, this one is definitely not for you!

I will note, that while I feel this is over-flavoured, I have a sensitive palate, I am also vaping it on a Haku RDA, and an OBS Engine tank, so I am getting the full intensity. On a Mouth to lung setup or a lower powered device, the flavour is not so overbearing. This isn’t marketed as a “Mouth to lung” flavour, but if you’re vaping on such a device, this might be right up your alley if you’re looking for more intensity!

Where to Buy:

To purchase this eliquid, you’ll need to find a stockist, the best way to do that is head on over to the Jungle Juice website and visit their “stockists” page. While you are there you can check out their other flavours and offerings.

Colour:

Clear

Aroma:

Watermelon / Strawberry

Coil and wick damage:

A little coil and wick damage. Over two days I’ve not had to rewick, but I likely will soon, as the wick is darkening in colour as is my coil.

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Sweet mint candy, slightly powdery

Steeping:

No steep necessary for this one!

Presentation:

I received, a 30ml clear glass dropper bottle. This one comes with the standard glass dropper with black lid, nothing unusual about it. I do hate these glass bottles though, I never seem to be able to fill up without juice getting down the side of the bottle.

This came in a cardboard box, obviously mostly for presentation, but it mimicks the graphics on the label. Also, where the label is lacking in information like PG/VG ratios, warnings and expiration dates, the box obliges, with all of those things as well as 18+ warnings, and how to prolong the shelf life of the eliquid.

The labels are very eye catching with Jungle graphics as well as a cartoon styled “Jungle Juice” logo, and images of the fruits that are in the juice.

Very nice presentation overall.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
