Augvape Druga v2 RDA Review

Augvape Druga v2 RDA Review

Let’s take a break today from the usual POD or tank review and have a look at something to take me back to my old RDA days. I used to be into RDA’s in a huge way, I just loved their simplicity (still do) and that it really doesn’t matter what you put them on, they will perform, as long as you can reach the appropriate wattage.

Dripping got a little tiresome for me, so I then turned to bottom-fed RDA’s, and continued to use ‘squonking’ setups for a long while, due to the excellent balance between fantastic flavour, and pure simplicity to use.

I still love myself a good RDA, and that’s exactly what I’ve got for you today!

Let’s check out the Augvape Druga v2 RDA!

Big thanks goes to Augvape, who contacted me directly and sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info

I haven’t used an Augvape product for so long, not since their fantastic Intake RTA, and unfortunately I can’t speak of the original Druga RDA, as I’ve never tried one either! But even though I’ve never tried the original, I’m really enjoying this version, and considering the excellent vape that I’m getting from it, can only assume that the original was a pretty stellar product itself.

Measuring in at 24mm in diameter and only 29mm in height, the Druga v2 sits low and stubby with a solid little stance, with clean lines and intuitive 3 piece body. This 304 stainless steel RDA has some pretty fine machining, with excellent tolerances and o-ring fitment.

Sporting x2 extra large 18k gold posts, and 510 connections, and completely new air-hole configuration, connectivity, airflow and ease of building were the top priority that Augvape focused on with the new version.

If you’re a squonker, Augvape have you covered, having provided an 18k gold squonk pin in with the accessories too!

The Base/Deck

Believe it or not, this deck has a 6mm juice well, it doesn’t look quite that big, but that’s due to the massive clamps towering overhead that dwarf everything else within sight!

As you can see, the very large thumb screws on top crank the inners down solidly onto any fancy coil you can fit into those crazy big post holes. Their new clamp snag system ensures a solid grip without loosening over time.

The clamps bite down on to coils really well, and hold tight, with an extra phillips head screw driver insets at the top, allowing you to get everything super tight, even when using huge gauge wire.

Top Cap

The top cap is of a 2 piece design, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but it is quite well executed. The o-ring fitment is supurb, even straight out of the box, everything is movable with a nice level of resistance. Not too loose, but not too tight either.

On each side there are 6 separate airholes, coming in level to your coils, with an additional domed top cap that sits inside, that also has a stepped design, allowing you to not only cover 2 holes at a time whilst adjusting but stepping through for almost any airhole configuration you might want.

Airflow

The airflow is quite generous, the original had cyclops style airflow holes, but the newer v2 version comes with 6 holes on each side measuring just under 2mm, the volume of air that you can put through this RDA is astounding and it’s super smooth. You really can go from a tight MTL draw right through to an almost completely open DTL draw with this airflow. Going really open introduces a little bit of a whistle and additional noise, but it’s well within and expected range, and quietens down a lot closing the air down even slightly.

My favourite setting has been with the top row of air-holes blocked off leaving only the bottom 3 open for that airflow to get right up and under the coils.

From what I can tell, there is no real way to block off air coming from one side only, meaning single coil builds will still have air coming through from both sides, diluting flavour. I find this a little unusual since this is promoted as a double or single coil RDA.

Building

Building is quite easy, as easy as it is going to get with a 2 post design. There is a lot of room, but I can’t help think that there might be more room for fancy coils if the posts were not quite as large. Was it really necessary to have them so large that they dominate the deck?

When building, I did originally put both coils in and attempt to snip the legs after tightening down the posts, but soon learnt that due to the large posts, it was difficult to get to the legs to cut them off, so ended up removing them and cutting the legs to length before putting them in again. This time around was super simple and I had both coils setup in a few seconds.

Because of the restricted deck space due to the posts, you can get enough cotton in there, but that is a bit of a squeeze also. Just a little more room would have made things a little easier, and I wouldn’t have had to tuck the cotton under the coils so much.

Any Leaks?

No, the o-rings and tolerances of this RDA are excellent. You’ll notice that the airflow holes do sit quite low, so be careful when squonking or dripping excess liquid into the RDA as once that juice well is full, you’ll get it come out from the sides.

Pros:

  • Great flavour
  • Excellent airflow control
  • Super simple to setup and use
  • Build deck allows large gauges of wire and coils
  • Small and lightweight
  • Squonk pin included
  • Excellent conductivity

Cons:

  • Large posts can inhibit building and using large coils
  • Airholes quite low – excess juice could escape
  • Does not come with any coils
  • Cannot block air from one side for single coil builds

Where to Buy:

The Augvape official Alibaba store has the Druga v2 priced at $20 USD which is a great price for a quality RDA such as this. Alternatively, I’ve seen the Druga V2 for around the same price at other US based online stores, and in the $40 AUD range here in Australia

Conclusion

The Druga v2 is an excellent RDA, with plenty of airflow options, a massive amount of flavour, all from such a stubby, tiny atomizer!

Contrary to what you might think from some of the comments I’ve made above, I’m really enjoying those large clamps on the deck and how easy they are to trap some large builds solidly. They way they are put together and how they work is really impressive, and something that turns this RDA into an RDA for build fanatics, and not just regular users. You could get a way with a single wire build, but why would you with such big beefy post clamps!

I like Augvape’s dedication to conductivity, and using 18K gold on the posts as well as the 510 pins is a win. I’ve been getting nothing but consistent resistance and performance from this RDA the entire time I’ve been using it.

The airflow is buttery smooth, no matter which way you set it, and has been phenomenal for the restricted DTL style vape that I am used to. I could dial it in really easy, no matter how picky I am with airflow.

There are a few cons, but the advantages weigh them out completely, even having no way to close off airflow on one side for single coil builds is not really an issue, because of the domed chamber, you’ll still get a heap of flavour out of it.

Excellent work Augvape.
