Wotofo Profile RDTA Review

Wotofo Profile RDTA Review

Hey gang, I haven’t seen a Wotofo product for a while now, but boy was I excited to see this one come through!

I really enjoyed giving the Profile 1.5 RDA a run a while back, because of it’s great flavour and easy setup, so when I heard that there was an RDTA in the works, it piqued my interest! If you’re familiar with it, you’ll know that Wotofo have used an older wicking method in this new RDTA, stainless steel rope, and I’ll be honest, I thought that was the main innovation behind this tank, a hat tip to a by-gone era, and showing off that modern tanks can still fall back to their roots.

But there is more to this one than meets the eye, and it’s a pretty cool thing that Wotofo now have on offer!

Today I’m going to be showing you the Wotofo Profile RDTA!

A big thank-you to Wotofo for sending this in to me for review.

First Impressions

My first impression of the Wotofo Profile RDTA was on par with many of their other products. Similar finish, great build quality, great design and simple packaging. What did throw me for a six, were the extras thrown in! Not only are you going to get a killer RDTA tank in this box, but an RDA, as well as a bunch of spares for whichever way you decide you’re going to build it!

Not only do you get various mesh sheets included, but a pair of Framed Staple Clapton Ni80 coils. Not only do you get a bunch of cotton for your mesh setup, but Wotofo have been kind enough to also throw in some cotton for your Clapton coils also. Thats a nice touch. Considering you’re also getting a screwdriver, as well as Allen key and Mesh bending tool, along with spares bag, that’s very generous.

It’s not all about the accessories though, and the tank speaks volumes for Wotofo’s quality control. A well designed product, with great machining, smooth threads, as well as a lovely clean finish, and lovely finish. I’m expecting great things from this tank!

General Looks and Style

The Profile RDTA is quite tall coming in at 52mm and running in at 25mm in diameter. It’s stainless steel shell, is machined to wonderful tolerances, with threading smooth as silk and a finish that looks quite durable. I received the black version with the red drip tip.

As you can see above in true RDTA style the deck is above the tank which is a glass sleeve, protected by a stainless ‘cage’, offering further protection from drops or unexpected knocks.

It’s a 3 piece design similar to Wotofo’s other RDA’s and tanks with the airflow adjusted by spinning the top section, domed on the inside for flavour, which also slides off to reveal a top down view of the deck.
Unscrewing the deck and the tank sections exposes the glass tank sleeve and the 4 stainless steel ropes that are used to draw e-liquid up to the chamber transferring e-liquid onto your cotton wicking material.

Underneath you have your gold plated 510 pin, on a standard 510 connection.

A welcome addition to the RDTA is a separate RDA adapter. You can unscrew the base tank from the deck, and replace with the RDA adapter effectively turning this RDTA into an RDA, which already has a squonk pin installed!

Airflow

Wotofo have gone back to the original Profile’s roots with the airflow. As you can see in the image above, the RDTA(RDA) left, and Profile 1.5 RDA right, have a very different airflow configuration. Did Wotofo find that the Profile 1.5’s airflow was not as well received as the original and adopted the original airflow for the RDTA? Instead of the two rows of holes, the RDTA has the 3 staggered rows, in a honeycomb formation.

The honeycomb airflow offers a really smooth draw, that is conveniently adjustable right down to almost completely closed off. I’m glad that Wotofo actually went back to the original airflow configuration, that top row from the 1.5 was virtually useless, only muting the flavour, where the full honeycomb airflow seems to offer a more superior draw.

The Deck

One thing that Wotofo have kept from the Profile 1.5 is the deck. There is very little difference here besides the actual size 25mm diameter, as well as the fill port and relief hole. The usual sprung ceramic wicking deck is back, as well as the really easy to use mesh clamps on either side.

One magnificent feature that Wotofo have added are some post holes between the mesh clamps, allowing you to install normal coils with the legs offset, and screws in the side to clamp your coils down, great for single coil builds. A very good addon 😉

Building

I’m not going to go into great detail here, because building on this RDTA is a dream with the mesh, and the instructions provided are crystal clear. Unscrew the side clamps a little, put your mesh ends into the clamps, make sure it’s straight and tighten them up again.
Give the mesh a bit of a rub with the provided mesh bending tool from underneath the mesh, just to round it out a little. Dry fire on a low wattage.

Once you’ve got a nice dry fire going on the mesh, let it cool, then slide your cotton wick under the mesh putting downward pressure on it. (you’ll feel the spring under the plate give a little) and pull the cotton through.
Snip off the ends of the cotton and work them down onto the deck where you can see the stainless rope wicks poking out. As long as your cotton makes close contact to these stainless ropes, you’re going to wick fine.

Filling

As you’ve seen from previous images, the fill port and relief holes are diagonally across from each other on the deck.

You’ll need to take off the top cap, and the fill hole is unfortunately quite small and it can be quite difficult and messy to fill.

I’ve found putting a bit of pressure on the bottle and snugging it up to the fill hole gets the tank filled effectively, you’ll want to keep that pressure on however as it’s easy for e-liquid to release out of the make-shift seal that you make and dribble down. (messy)

I’d have liked to have seen a larger fill port, or just something that was chamfered a little, to allow a bottle nozzle to seat better.

The Coils

The Profile RDTA comes with an assortment of coils, mesh and claptons. You’ve got to give it to Wotofo, they are generous in the addons department!

You’ll recieve 3 different types of mesh, most notable of the 3 is the new nexMesh Clapton, which uses clapton wire fused into a mesh format for easy installation.
I’ve been using this Clapton mesh exclusively during my time with the Profile RDTA and haven’t had any issues, in fact I’ve found the vape to be quite satisfying, very flavoursome and putting out some nice clouds.

Also inside the box, you’ll receive a pair of Framed Staple Clapton coils, so you can try running standard coils in the newly provided coil post holes in the centre of the wicking deck.
I tried these out early on and they provide quite a nice vape also. Perhaps not as full on as the mesh, but if you prefer traditional coils, you’ll definitely find these easy to install, and almost as flavoursome as the nexMesh Clapton Mesh.

RDA Conversion

As mentioned earlier, the Profile RDTA can also transform into an RDA, by simply removing the tank section and screwing on the RDA base adapter.
This effectively leaves you with an RDA with squonk pin already installed to put onto your favourite squonk device.

This feature works really well, and literally gives you an original Profile RDA airflow, with a Profile 1.5 RDA deck format on a 25mm diameter.
Great for a large squonking setup, and works flawlessly.

Any Leaks?

No, not whilst using the RDTA as intended, and by intended, I mean upright. As with all RDTA’s if you decide that you’re going to store it laying down, you’ll likely come back to a large puddle of e-liquid on your table, or worse, your couch!!

Despite that typical RDTA flaw, I’ve had no leaking at all from this tank. The base and tank seals quite well with not even a hint of condensation near the 510 of my mod.

DO NOT STORE THIS ON IT’S SIDE!

Pros:

  • Great flavour
  • Easy to use
  • Excellent wicking
  • Various mesh options
  • Great e-liquid capacity
  • Smooth airflow
  • RDA Conversion

Cons:

  • Filling can be messy
  • Is an absolute juice pig (uses a lot of e-liquid)

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Profile RDTA directly through Wotofo from their online store, or through any of the many, many stores around the globe that stock their products. They’re currently priced at about $39.95 USD which is a steal for everything that you get in the box!

Conclusion

I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Wotofo Profile RDTA, it puts out fantastic flavour, is really easy to build on, and has a great look to it.

To be completely honest, I spent more time simply filling it up and using it rather than setting it up, it really is quite an easy task getting it all running.

You’ll get some nice thick dense clouds from the mesh setup, and if you decide to use normal coils, like provided in the box, flavour and clouds are just as great. It all comes down to preference.

This thing holds a lot of juice, 6.2mls in fact, and you’re going to need it, specially using the new clapton mesh coils like me. It guzzles the e-liquid, and you’ll find yourself refilling every hour or so, you’re e-liquid will last longer with dual coils, but where’s the fun in that 😉

I hated filling this, you not only have to remove the top cap, but then you need to squeeze juice into a hole that is smaller than your bottle nozzle. It works, but some improvements like chamfered edges might improve things a little. Perhaps just a larger hole with a silicone plug?

Anyway, all in all, the Profile RDTA is a great little tank that is really well made, puts out some great flavour and clouds, as well as being quite ‘the looker’ on any device you put it on.

Great work Wotofo!
