Voopoo Vinci 2 & Vinci X 2 Reviewed

Voopoo. We all know them, they’re well loved by many, and not so loved by others, but there’s one thing that you can can say with certainty, they create some excellent, and innovative vape gear.

When the original Voopoo Vinci was released it was as though a light was switched on, it carried with it, so many features and design traits that have become mainstream in devices since, even from competing companies.

A device that provided the vape quality of a more powerful device, that was portable, and easy to carry around, all in one unit, was the holy grail, and Voopoo achieved it with the Vinci. Sure, it had it’s flaws, leaking Pods were one of them, but looking back, it really was the tipping point that saw the rise of the ‘Pod Mod’, and set the stage for all others that came after it.

Well, after a few years, Voopoo have released a new version of the Vinci, the Vinci 2 which carries an onboard battery, and the Vinci X 2, the 18650 removeable battery version.

Let’s take a look at Voopoo’s latest Vinci 2 and Vinci X 2 kits!

Big thanks goes to Voopoo for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info & Photos

As you’d expect, Voopoo have made a few improvements to the original Vinci with the Vinci 2, some you’ll instantly notice, and others not so easy to spot.

Just like the original, there are two versions offered, the Vinci 2 with the onboard 1500mah internal battery with a maximum Wattage of 50W, and the slightly larger Vinci X 2, which houses an external battery and a larger wattage cap of 80W. Both are quite similar in appearance, besides the obvious modifications made due to size, and staying true to the name, also quite tightly resemble the original Vinci devices.

What you’ll soon notice is that the Vinci 2 range is more or less an improved, more refined version of the original, rather than a completely new design, with a larger e-liquid capacity, a much better airflow system via the sliding side adjustment, an updated UI thanks to Voopoo using their latest Gene 2.0 chipset, and slight changes in the general design and aesthetics, creating a much smoother form factor and appearance.

The Body

The body of both devices is made from Zinc Alloy, tough, with a little weight, which also adds a bit more of a quality feel to them. Adding to this is the smooth satin coating applied as well as the now slightly smoother corners of the device compared to the original. The Vinci 2 range feels just that little bit more luxurious in the hand, the sharper corners of the original did make it feel quite boxy. New panels on the rear of the devices also make things look a little more modern, closely resembling those used on the latest Vinci Pod device in both their reflective design and finish.

You’ll instantly notice the airflow at the top of the device. When removing the Pod, you’ll see the design of the Pod recess has changed to look a little more like the Drag S or Drag X with a circular rotating ring rather than the flatter recess that the original Vinci had. This does two things, gives some extra room to allow for any leakage, and enables the airflow adjustment to operate in a circular sliding motion, allowing air in from both sides.

On the other side of the device, you’ll notice the USB Type C charge port. It’s in different positions on both devices. The Vinci 2 having it quite close to the upper air flow vent, and the Vinci X 2 having it closer to the base of the device. This is clearly a welcome addition and improvement over the micro USB port on the original Vinci.

On the front face is the main control panel. With a large circular fire button up top, and smaller Up/Down toggle button below, the Vinci 2 range comes with a 1.08″ TFT Color Screen, so that you can see all of the info you could need from Voopoo’s Gene 2.0 chipset.

And finally, on the base of the devices, you’ll now find a moulded rubber ring embedded which allows you to place it down without damaging any surfaces or the device itself. You’ll also find the battery bay for the Vinci X 2 but I’ll run through this a little later. The rubber ring feels a little strange at first, but is a really nice feature, and if you’re like me, you’ll find it a little bit of a luxury you can’t live without afterwards. It’s the little things 🙂

The POD + Coils

The Pods haven’t changed a lot since the original, they are still of a square design, with 4 magnets, duck bill mouth piece, and almost clear, lightly tinted PCTG plastic. The beauty of this design is that you can see your eliquid level easily at all times without needing to remove the Pod at all, which makes life a lot easier. A simple glance is all that is needed to see if you need to refill or not.

The capacity of the Pods has increased a little. Voopoo have done a little manipulation of the Pods in order to get an extra 1ml of e-liquid capacity into the Pods. They can now carry 6.5ml compared to the 5.5ml capacity of the original Pods which is excellent!

The Pods also still use the Voopoo PnP coils, which as we all know wick really well, and can run quite high wattage despite their recommended limits.

Both kits differ slightly with the coils provided. In both you’ll receive the PnP-VM1 0.3ohm coil which is rated for between 32-40 Watts.

The Vinci 2 with the internal battery also comes with a PnP-TM2 0.8ohm coil, and the Vinci X 2 with the external battery, a PnP-VM6 0.15ohm coil to make better use of it’s higher wattage limits.

I won’t go into the performance of the coils here, as I have done so many times in the past already with various devices. If you’d like to read some more on some of Voopoo’s PnP coils, you can check out some of my previous Voopoo reviews here.

Airflow

The new Vinci 2 series now use a sliding airflow adjustment on the side, very similar to how the Voopoo S & X, as well as the Argus series use. Sliding this tab/lever turns the circular ring inside the airflow, to alter the amount of air that is allowed under the coil.

The action is very smooth, and this is a pleasure to use. It’s also a lot more refined and able to dial in more accurate or intricate airflow preferences than the original 2 stage airflow adjustment of the Vinci where you’re airflow would change dependant on which way around you insert the Pod.

Filling

Just like the original, the Vinci 2 pods are filled from the side. Simply lift the rubber flap to expose the fill port and fill away. The fill port is plenty large enough to fit any e-liquid bottle nozzle with room to spare, making sure you don’t get any back pressure whilst filling.

One thing that I did notice, is that the rubber flap is quite thin, and sometimes difficult to get a grasp on.
Because of this, I can see it wearing over time, and either breaking or coming free from it’s anchor point. It would have been a good idea to put a spare in with the kit, but unfortunately Voopoo did not.

Battery

Nothing has really changed in the battery department since the original Vinci was released. The Vinci 2 has exactly the same sized internal battery as it’s predecessor, and the Vinci X 2 still takes a single 18650 battery.

You’ll now find that the Vinci X 2 has a push and slide, flipping battery door as opposed to the original screw down battery cap, which makes changing batteries a lot quicker, and allows you to remove it quickly if ever you need to do so. The battery orientation is clearly marked with a negative mark embossed on the inside of the battery door, and batteries sit nice and snug with no rattle what-so-ever.

One thing that has changed across both devices however, is the charge rate, and charging port. Now sporting a USB Type C charge port, the Vinci 2 and Vinci X 2 also now benefit from a 5V/2A charge rate.

Any Leaks?

No leaks per-se. I have noticed that there is a little seepage from the coil after some time using the devices. No leaking from the Pod at all, just the smallest amount of eliquid under the coil. Voopoo’s PnP coils are notorious for this, so this is not unexpected, and does not reflect on the device or Pod at all.

Usage & Features

Just like other newer Voopoo products on the market, the Vinci 2 and Vinci X 2 both use the Gene 2.0 chipset which is far superior to previous iterations, and also offers a choice between two different user interfaces. (Iron & Core)
Both interfaces display all of the information you might need in nice clear lettering, with ‘Iron’ being for a vertical view, whilst ‘Core’ is designed to be viewed from the side (horizontally). Information available via the screen is as follows: Puff counter, Wattage, Voltage, Resistance, Battery display, Length of last puff, as well as changing colours when switching between ‘Smart’ and ‘RBA’ modes.

Button configuration and usage is quite similar to other devices, here are some of the shortcuts.

  • 5 Clicks of Fire Button : Turn On/Off
  • 3 Clicks of Fire Button : Adjusts draw (Auto, Manual, or Both (Only on Vinci 2))
  • + /– buttons : Adjust wattage in 1-watt increments (5-40w)
  • Press and hold Fire & + Button : Locks/Unlocks all buttons (still able to fire with draw activated setting)
  • Press and Hold + & – Button : View Puff Information
  • Press and hold Fire & – Button : Resets Puff Counter

Pros:

  • Excellent e-liquid capacity
  • New airflow adjustment
  • Quality feel and design
  • Great display and chipset
  • Compact
  • Great battery life
  • Excellent flavour
  • Extensive coil range

Cons:

  • A little seepage from coils (PnP coils)

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Voopoo Vinci 2 and Voopoo Vinci X 2 directly through Voopoo by visiting the Voopoo online store, or you should be able to pick one up from your local vape shop shortly. They’ve only just been released, but most vape stores should start stocking them very soon!

Conclusion

I’m pretty happy with what Voopoo have done here, they’ve shown a clear progression from the original version, not only improving the existing features, but introducing some changes to make the Vinci range even better, while also modernising them a little too.

USB Type C 2Amp charging is clearly an improvement over the original micro USB ports, the larger e-liquid capacity of the Pods is a most welcome change, as is the new Gene 2.0 chipset that really sets these up as not only more accurate but a lot easier to use too.

The new adjustable airflow system works really well, which allows a much more refined airflow adjustment, that doesn’t lock you into only two settings like the original, and the general form factor and aesthetic changes that have been made, have improved the looks and hand feel enormously.

One con that I will point out, is the PnP coils. Whilst once, they were the bees knees, the best coils out due to their wicking ability and flavour, they are quickly falling behind due to their tendency to seep e-liquid below the coil. There have been many complaints over multiple platforms about this, and while it’s only a small matter (the seepage isn’t a lot) it can be irritating all the same.

The Vinci 2 and Vinci X 2 are clear improvements over the originals, they’ve improved a lot really, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them as an upgrade for anyone using the first series.

Nice work Voopoo!
