Voopoo Doric 60 Pod Reviewed

Voopoo Doric 60 Pod Reviewed

We can all agree that Voopoo have pretty much taken over the vape industry when it comes to Pod Mods. The introduction of their Drag S and Drag X Pod mods a few years ago was revolutionary, and they’ve been pumping out newer versions of those devices ever since. Today’s review however is something a little different. While there are some similarities to previous products, this new device really is something brand new to Voopoo.

The Doric 60’s form factor is reminisce of an old school AIO (all in one) device, but with Voopoo’s signature PnP Pod on top. Is this Voopoo’s easy to use newbie friendly device? I think so!

Let’s take a look at what Voopoo have done with the new Doric 60 Pod!!

Big thanks goes to Voopoo for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info

As you can see the Doric 60 is very much a Pod device, and a much more simplified bit of hardware than Voopoo’s usual Drag devices. With a 2500mah internal battery under the hood, and a maximum wattage of 60 Watts, you might not get a full day’s worth of vaping out of it, but it is setup to be as simple to use as possible. It’s a single button device, with very few features besides push and fire, making this one newbie friendly device!

The Doric 60 also takes advantage of Voopoo’s work on their auto-draw firing. You can not only fire this baby up using the button if you like to manually vape, but auto-draw is also always on, so you only need to give it a toot for it to fire up too.

Throw in the fact that it uses Voopoo’s tried and true 4.5ml PnP Pods and coils, and it has quite a generous airflow adjustment, you’re going to get quite a good vape from this little beast!

The Body

Wrapped in an aluminium alloy, the main body of the device is quite small, and because of the material used, very lightweight also. The finish is really nice, it’s a metallic, matt/satin finish, to give it a sleek and stylish look, all the while making sure that you don’t leave fingerprints all over it.

Up top is the Pod recess, similar to many of Voopoo’s other products, with 2 gold plated connectors and a circular seat, which allows you to simply pop the Pod on without needing to worry around which way around it goes.

Under the top pod recess is the airflow adjustment ring, it spins cleanly all of the way around, (no stoppers) which allows you to set your airflow as you like. With a cyclops shaped airflow hole on either side, as well as an additional tiny MTL airflow hole too, you’re bound to find an airflow that suits your style of vaping.

Following down, on the front face you’ll find 3 little led lights, with the single fire/power button underneath. On the other side is the USB Type C charge port. It’s quite high on the device, not the most optimal position, but putting it here leaves the rest of the device looking clean and clear.

Last but not least, underneath, Voopoo have included a shallow rubber base on the bottom which is a really nice touch. It not only helps save any scratches on tables, but gives a bit of cushion when you are placing it down.

The POD & Coils

We’ve all seen these before. Voopoo’s PnP Pod is legendary, it’s a once piece PCTG plastic which is shockproof, and less likely to crack with certain eliquids. It has a light smoked colour so that it looks really nice, but you can still see your eliquid level easily. I won’t go on about these, as I’ve already written about them several times in other reviews.

What I will say however, is that the Pod provided with the Doric 60 is probably the first Voopoo PnP Pod that hasn’t leaked on me at all. I know right! I finally got one that doesn’t leak!

The Doric 60 comes with two PnP coils in the box.

  • PnP-VM5 0.2Ω Coil (40-60w)
This coil is quite good, but it soaks up that juice a little too well and really needs a little higher wattage to perform correctly. The 60 Watts from the Doric 60 is not quite powerful enough I’m afraid and I get a really cool flavour from it..
  • PnP-VM1 0.3Ω Coil (32-40w)
This coil is perfectly suited to the Doric. The Doric fires up to it’s maximum wattage easily, providing some nice dense warm vapour, with fantastic flavour. Definitely my favourite coil of the two.

Airflow

Taking a closer look at the airflow control on the Doric 60, you’ll notice that it has cyclops style airflow holes on either side, but not only that, Voopoo have also provided an additional tiny MTL hole for those Mouth to lung vapers too! A very thoughtful addition, thank-you very much! The airflow ring doesn’t have any stoppers, instead it rotates 360 degrees, which is a bit of a pro and a con. On one hand it feels nice and has a nice action, on the other hand, you’re going to have a bit of trouble adjusting your airflow in the dark. But then again, most of us set and forget our airflow dont we?

On a side note, how open the airflow is also directly affects the auto-draw. Auto firing doesn’t work so well with a really open airflow, obviously not enough pressure is created on the auto-draw switch inside, which will render it spotty, but tighten that airflow up a tiny bit and auto-draw works really well. I’ve found it to be not only quick to fire, responsive, but very reliable.

Battery

There is a 2500mah inside the Doric 60. Not the largest battery, but pretty sufficient for the size of the device. Running this at 60 Watts all day, will likely get you a flat battery in a few hours, and you’ll need to recharge, but just quietly, I think most will use the 40Watt coils as they produce a much warmer vapour, therefore making their battery last that little bit longer.

When you do get a flat battery, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll get 1.6A fast charge from the USB Type C port, unfortunately however, you won’t be able to vape while it’s charging, as there is no pass-through.

Filling

Filling is as easy as any Pnp Pod. Remove the pod, open the silicone fill cover, fill, replace the cover, and put the Pod back on. Too easy.

Any Leaks?

On the 40 Watt coil, that I have been using “TO DEATH”, I’ve had no leaking whatsoever. However with the 60 Watt coil, yes, I get the usual coil seepage that is so common with Voopoo’s PnP Pods and coils. This is clearly due to the juice retention of the coil and not being able to fire it to it’s optimum wattage.

Usage

The Doric 60 is super simple to use, hence the one button. There are 3 LEDs above the fire button that indicate not only the battery level, but which mode you’re in. Here is what the colours mean:

  • White = High Power
  • Green = Medium Power
  • Blue = Low Power

In addition to the power modes the LEDs also light up when charging to indicate your charge level with however many LEDs are lit up at the time.

Here are the basic functions for the Doric 60.

  • Power On/Off = x5 clicks of the fire button
  • Power adjustment = press fire button x3 times to go into power adjustment mode. Each press there after will rotate through the 3 different power modes

Pros:

  • Stylish design and lightweight hand feel
  • 60 Watts of power
  • Auto power and coil detection
  • Uses Voopoo’s PnP Pods and coils
  • Decent battery and battery life
  • USB Type C charging
  • Button fire or Auto Draw firing action

Cons:

  • Seeping PnP coils
  • 60 Watt coil doesn’t work so well, needs more power
  • No pass-through charging

Where to Buy:

You can pick up the Voopoo Doric 60 directly through Voopoo’s online store for about $37.90 USD, which is quite a good price for what you get.

Conclusion

The Doric 60 has been a really reliable little device for me over the last few weeks. It’s outperformed my expectations, and not only that, kind of found a place for me as a quick out and about setup for those days when I need to run errands.

From it’s really responsive auto draw, to it’s smaller form factor but large e-liquid capacity, it’s been a delight to take out an about on nights out, and has never skipped a beat.

I particularly like that Voopoo have catered for those who like a more closed off airflow by adding an additional MTL airflow hole, and the single button 3 mode operation is intuitive and easy to use.

Great work guys!
