Voopoo Doric 20 Pod Reviewed

Welcome back, if you’ve been watching, you’ll know that I reviewed the Voopoo Doric 60 Pod Mod recently, and I touted it as the perfect beginners device due to it’s ease of use and wonderful vape. Well, today I’ll be taking a look at it’s little brother, the Doric 20, which is not just a smaller version of the Doric 60, but produced specifically for those looking to get a good Mouth to lung vape from a portable device. Voopoo’s answer to the Caliburn if you will!

I won’t carry on any longer, let’s get stuck into it.

Let’s take a look at what Voopoo have done with the new Doric 20 Pod!!

Big thanks goes to Voopoo for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info

The Doric 20 is seriously everything you could ever want in a portable pod device. Based on a mini tube design, it’s lightweight, small, easy to slip into your pocket, and really is a pick up and go type of system.
This little champ’s specs, show that Voopoo have firmly aimed this device at mouth to lung vapers, with a smaller 1500mah internal battery, 1ohm/1.2ohm high resistance coils, 3 power levels, dual fire modes (button fire and auto-draw), and 2ml e-liquid capacity.

The Body

Made from aluminium alloy, and sized at 124mm in height and 19mm diameter, the Doric 20 is really lightweight, and the perfect size to carry around all day. I’ve particularly enjoyed being able to just take it out of my pocket at any time, and using it in auto-draw mode.

Up top is a pod recess, very similar to many of Voopoo’s other products with the exception being that this is actually a friction fit Pod, rather than magnetic based. While the Pod does require a bit of strength to remove, it’s not too bad, and it holds firm even if you drop it (ask me how I know).

Below that on one side is the simple single button with LED above it to indicate the mode you’re in and also battery level. This button protrudes quite a bit, and while I would have liked it to be a little more subtle, doing so would make it more difficult to find when you just want to whip it out and take a quick vape.

On the other side, you’ll find an airflow adjustment toggle and a USB Type C charge port quite high on the device.
The airflow adjustment is easy to use and gives you three options, well four if you include fully closed.
This is where you can tell Voopoo have focused directly on MTL users, as the 3 airholes provided are perfectly tuned to an airflow level that a MTL user would expect, even those of you who love a really closed down and tight MTL experience.

This toggle protrudes from the body a lot and while it’s easy to find, I can’t help but wonder why Voopoo didn’t make this a simpler slider, rather than a slider in the form of a toggle. Regardless, it works well and gives you some great MTL options.

Underneath, the Doric 20 has a silicone base covering the entire bottom, making it a pleasure to set down, and avoid scratching tables.

The POD & Coils

The ITO Pod included with the Doric 20 really is a smaller version of the PnP pod, slightly reconfigured, and using Voopoo’s new ITO coils, designed specifically for smaller MTL style devices.
The Pod, like the PnP comes in a slightly smoky PCTG plastic with non replaceable drip tip, coil removal from the base and a silicone plug on the side that reveals a good sized fill port.

Voopoo have listened to feedback and developed a more leak proof design with the ITO Pod taking it’s airflow from the bottom, around the base of the coil and in through channels in the sides, making sure e-liquid seepage does not happen, like it so often does with their other Pod systems.

The kit comes with 2 of Voopoo’s new ITO coils

  • ITO-M2 (1.0Ω)
This 1.0ohm coil is designed to use 12Watts of power, and the Doric 20 will adjust the 3 different power modes when it is detected, to 14 Watts, 12 Watts, and 10 Watts respectively. Voopoo recommend running this coil with 2 airflow holes open for a slightly bigger power output and more airflow.
  • ITO-M3 (1.2Ω)
The 1.2ohm coils is better suited to MTL vapers who like a lower wattage and tighter airflow. It’s designed to use 10 Watts of power and just like the other coil, the Doric 20 will adjust the 3 different power levels when this coil is detected. When inserted, the power levels are adjusted to 12 Watts, 10 Watts, and 8 Watts. Voopoo recommend using a single airflow hole with this coil for best results.

Personally, I’ve found both of these coils provide some excellent flavour and really do dial in a lovely MTL style vape. If you love a more open and powerful vape, the 1.0 ohm coil would be your choice, offering up a little more vapour and with all airflow holes open you’ll be able to achieve a restricted DTL style vape.
If you love your tight MTL vaping, the 1.2ohm coil will be for you, and is lovely when the airflow adjustment is closed right down or even with just the one hole open. You’ll get a nice tight MTL draw this way, with less vapour, but just as much flavour.

Airflow

I must commend Voopoo on the airflow on the Doric 20. They’ve achieved that which many other manufacturers could not. A true tight MTL draw in a pod device. The airflow on the Doric 20 is not only adjustable but can dial right down to a really tight MTL, much tighter than even the latest Caliburns do.

I’m not a huge fan of the protruding toggle for adjusting the airflow and would have much preferred a less defined slider, but it works just fine and has a nice level of restriction there so it’s easy to get the airflow you like. I do find the airflow adjusting slightly while in the pocket, so I’m planning on grinding that toggle knob down a little to avoid this happening in the future.

Battery

The Doric 20 comes with a 1500mah internal battery, which is small, but is all this really needs. This is a low powered, high resistance device, designed for MTL vaping after all. You’ll easily get a full day of vaping from this battery, and when it’s time to charge, you’ll be pleased to know, while there is no pass-through charging, it will charge within the hour using the USB Type C charge port.

Filling

Filling is super simple, remove the Pod from the device, peel back the silicone plug on the side and fill.
While some may feel removing the Pod is an extra step, hiding the fill port below the visible Pod level gives a cleaner look and avoids the silicone plug somehow coming loose in your pocket. I can’t see that ever happening, but I’m assuming Voopoo aired on the side of caution on this one.
The fill port when revealed is large enough to fit most e-liquid bottle nozzles into with room to spare, so you can fill the pod quite quickly without any issues with messy back flow.

Any Leaks?

None, absolutely none. Not even any seepage or condensation. It looks like Voopoo’s new leak-free design really is leak-free, and boy am I thankful. I’ve been carrying this in my pocket for the last week or so and even with the extra warmth from being in my pocket, not one drop of e-liquid has shown itself.

Usage

There’s not much to the operation of the Doric 20, really the only thing you’ll be doing is changing modes or turning the device on or off. The LED above the button does display the battery level when you take a puff or push the button, Green is full, Blue is Medium and Red is low.

There are also different colours for changing modes, although you won’t know which mode your in unless you specifically set it again. Not a big deal I think as you’ll likely set it and forget it.

Here are the basic functions for the Doric 20.

  • Power On/Off = x5 clicks of the fire button
  • Power adjustment = press fire button x3 times, each time you do so it will rotate through the 3 different power modes. Again just like the battery level Red is low, Blue is Medium, and Green is High.

Pros:

  • Really small lightweight and pocket friendly
  • Excellent, brilliantly tight MTL airflow
  • Easy one button operation
  • Truly leak free pod design
  • Flavoursome new ITO coils
  • Fast USB Type C charging

Cons:

  • No pass-through charging

Where to Buy:

You can pick up the Voopoo Doric 20 directly through Voopoo’s online store for about $33.90 USD, which is quite a good price for what you get.

Conclusion

Wow! I’m really really impressed by the Doric 20, I thought Voopoo had knocked the ball out of the park with it’s big brother the Doric 60, but the Doric 20 really has “on the move vapers” covered.
The redesigned smaller leak-free pods work brilliantly and truly provide a leak-free experience, and the fact that they are paired with some really well thought out, and flavoursome mouth to lung coils makes the Doric 20 a big contender for best MTL pod device this year.

Excellent work Voopoo, I’ll be keeping this little one on me for some time to come!!
