Vaporesso FORZ TX80 Kit Review

Vaporesso FORZ TX80 Kit Review

Today I’m going to take a look at something that I haven’t really seen a lot of hype about, but it’s a damn good little setup.

You all would have heard of Vaporesso, they’ve been in the vape game a long time now, and make some phenomenal coils. Not only that, but from day dot, they’ve been releasing some pretty impressive vape gear, while keeping a price point in mind. Today’s review is of a single battery mod and sub-ohm tank setup, that boasts being water-proof, shock-proof and dust-proof, perfect for those who work outdoors, or those who just want a little extra protection for their vape setup.

Let’s take a look at the Vaporesso FORZ TX80 Kit!

Big thanks goes to Vaporesso for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info

On first glance you might think the FORZ kit looks a little strange, with it’s silicone cover for the drip tip, rubberised coating for the outside of the tank, and semi-rubberised coating around the device itself. But when you see that it’s Dust-Proof, Water-Proof and Shock-Proof, all of that becomes a non-issue, and the styling all begins to make sense, if anything, makes this device look kind of cool!

The FORZ kit is a mod and tank kit, containing a single 18650 battery powered mod and a very well protected tank that takes Vaporesso’s new GTR sub-ohm coils .

The Body

As I mentioned earlier, the body is designed around it’s Shock-Proof, Water-Proof, and Dust-Proof rating, so there’s a lot of rubber there, including the USB Type-C Charge port, which makes sense when you think about it, I couldn’t think of any other material that would be any more impact resistant than rubber.

Joining the rubber is the brushed alluminium front panel, and leather heel at the back, and while this might remind you of some other brand’s offerings, Vaporesso have given this a nice unique shape and body lines that really set this apart from any other device on the market.

Up top Vaporesso have given us a 510 connection that feels spring loaded, but isn’t, likely they are using a rubber washer underneath, but it can compress quite a distance so you wont have issues with atomizers with longer pins. There’s also a pattern embellished on the top of the mod in order to limit your tank getting stuck to the device.
On the front operation panel a nice big square fire button, a decent sized black and white screen, two up/down buttons, and something we don’t normally see, a separate ‘mode’ button.

Of to one side, you’ll find a USB Type C charging port hidden behind a rubber plug to make sure water and dust do not get in there, and on the very bottom of the device, a metal screw in battery plug, that makes sure your battery stays nice and secure.

Battery

As mentioned earlier, the 18650 battery access on the Forz is on the bottom. The Forz can only take an 18650 battery which is a little disappointing, a 21700 option would have been nice, with a sleeve for those who still use 18650’s.

The battery bay dor is your typical steel threaded disk with a handle that levers out with an oring present to keep the water and dust out of the battery compartment.

It is quite stiff and takes a little effort to unscrew, but that is expected on most Dust Proof devices, due to the oring and rubber surrounds.

There’s also a USB Type C charge port on the side of the device hidden beneath a rubber plug just in case you need to charge your battery in an emergency, but you normally use an external battery charger right?

The Tank

The Forz tank is unusual, in that, just like the device, it’s covered in rubber. This is a rubber housing that encases the glass, and internals limiting any damage from impact. It’s kind of cool, but kind of weird in a way. It does it’s job well, but does also add a little bulk to the tank, giving it a strange look.

The Forz tank is 25mm in diameter, and is very much your typical 3 piece design, base, tank/glass, top fill cap.

From the top down, you’ve got your 810 drip tip, which is covered by a removeable silicone cover which slips over the main body of the tank. I think it’s a little ugly and annoying, so I’ve removed mine for most of the time I’ve used it, but others might like that extra safety to ensure nothing can get into their tank via the drip tip, specially if you work in dusty conditions.

The top cap is unscrewed to reveal the filling area. There’s a decent amount of thread here, and it’s easy to remove, no problems here.

Below that is the main section of the tank. If you remove the top cap, you can see a centre screw there that can be unwound to allow the rubber casing to be removed to clean it. You can’t remove the rubber casing permanently however, as it forms the main part of the tank and without it your bottom section wont screw on. There are 4 windows in this rubber outer shell, that allow you to see your eliquid levels. Curiously, Vaporesso have used 2 of those windows for some branding and you can’t actually see your eliquid level through them, which is a bit of a shame.

Under the tank section, you’ll find an airflow control ring with 3 cyclops style airflow holes available, giving quite a decent amount of air and restricting down quite a ways also. The movement of the ring is nice and smooth, having just a little resistance so that it doesn’t spin freely.
This bottom section is where you’d unscrew, insert your coil and screw the base back on, and everything here works well. I will note that the threads on this bottom section are quite crunchy and feel like they haven’t been machined that well. All said and done, it works and keeps your liquid where it is supposed to be.

The 510 connection and pin under the tank seem to be fixed, and the pin protrudes a significant amount, so you can use this on a mech mod with no issues.

The Coils

As always, Vaporesso have excelled in the coil department. Included with the kit are 2 different coils, both perform excellently, and pump out some fantastic flavour. The new GTR range sport organic cotton a larger airway, and mesh coils.

  • GTR 0.15ohm mesh coil (pre installed)
This coil has an operating wattage of between 60-80 Watts with 70 Watts reportedly being the best. Personally I found anywhere up from 50 watts worked great and gave a nice saturated and dense vape with excellent flavour.
  • GTR 0.4ohm mesh coil
The 0.4ohm mesh coil has an operating wattage of between 40-60 Watts with a best wattage of 50 Watts. This spec is pretty much spot on, just like the 0.15ohm coil I’ve been vaping this at anywhere upward of 50 Watts and it also produces some brilliant flavour and a nice dense vape.

Airflow

The Forz tank is good for a variety of airflow levels, running right through from a loose mouth to lung draw, right up to an almost completely open direct to lung draw. All of this is achievable via the adjustable airflow ring at the bottom of the tank.

The adjustment ring has a nice feel to it being slightly resistant as you turn, it’s nice and smooth, and sports 3 large cyclops holes.

Filling

Filling the Forz tank is super simple. Unscrew the top cap and fill the tank via one of the two large kidney shaped holes. There is a bit of a ledge under the holes so filling might be a little slower than other tanks but you can fill quite quickly.

One thing to note on filling the Forz, you can’t really see your e-liquid levels above about 80% in this tank, so it’s really difficult to fill it full. What I have been doing is slowly filling until I see a little liquid appear in the opposite fill hole.

Any Leaks?

None that I’ve noticed. I have had a little seeping from around the airflow ring at times, and light eliquid marks under the tank, but no dumping of fluid or noticeable leaking.

Usage

The Forz mod has quite a few modes that you can choose from, ranging from standard Variable Wattage, through to Smart Wattage mode, and also some more advanced options. I’ve pretty much kept mine in Pulse mode most of the time in order to try and save a little battery life, but other reviews have noted that most other modes work correctly.
If you’re curious about some of the features, the Vaporesso website explains all of the modes available from the Axon chipset.

While the screen leaves a little to be desired, being only a black and white 0.69in OLED screen, its quite intuitive and its pretty easy to get to the setting that you’ll be looking for. Some of the options available are clearing puff counter, screen brightness, and flipping the screen.

Pros:

  • Great flavour and long coil life
  • Tough and durable
  • Lightweight
  • Great build quality
  • Easy to use

Cons:

  • Threads are a little crunchy
  • Short battery life with lower ohm coil
  • Difficult to fill tank to full (cannot see level past 80%)

Where to Buy:

The Vaporesso Forz kit is priced at an ok price point. $69.90 USD is not the cheapest price you’ll likely find it but this is the price on the official Vaporesso online store.

Conclusion

I’ve quite enjoyed the Forz kit, it’s a standup little setup that puts out a fantastic vape with excellent flavour and simple enough controls.

I love that Vaporesso have added a 3rd button for changing settings instead of relying on a x3 click of the fire button to get into the system menu. It’s nice to have that separated.

I did find using the Forz a little strange with all of the rubber coated finish on both the mod and the tank, and to me it looks a little weird, but it serves a purpose and it does a good job of it.

There are a tonne of positive things about the Forz, and a few Negatives, but all in all, none of the negatives are serious enough to not recommend it. They are small niggles and not really an issue.

If you’re looking for something virtually bullet-proof to use while youre out on a job site, the Vaporesso Forz Kit should definitely be on your radar!

Great work Vaporesso!
