e-Liquid Review: Sticky Wicket from Solomons Clouds

If you’ve been keeping an eye on things, you’ll know that I’ve been reviewing the Solomon’s Clouds range of flavours over the last week or so.

So far they’ve lived well up to expectation, and can say with certainty that every single one of their eliquids are expertely blended, tasty and packed full of flavour.

These juice makers from the West have left no stone unturned in their quest to bring you a solid range made from only the best of ingredients. From chilled fruits, right through to thick and creamy desserts, I think they’ve got everyone covered, and even the most discerning vaper should be able to find something they adore from this range. Enough guff from me….

Today’s flavour is “Sticky Wicket” from Solomons Clouds.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

[From the website]
Our latest creation here at solomons clouds, we present to you sticky wicket! A delicious creamy salted caramel brulee. Not just another custard, this smooth mix finishes up with a salted caramel punch at the end that will have you asking “where has this been all my life?”.

The Review

Cream Brulee’s are awesome, they’re a favourite for many with their thick custardy base, through to the distinct and crisp caramelised sugar that tops them off. Essentially a sweeter and more complex vanilla custard, Creme Brulee translates really well in vape form and is probably one of the more popular flavour profiles out there.

I’m pleased to say that Solomon’s Clouds have done a very fine job on this one, it has everything you might expect from a Vanilla Custard with that extra lovely rich caramelised sugar on top. Not only that but they’ve slipped a bit of Salted Caramel in here as well!

“Tasty Vanilla Custard topped with caramelised sugar and a contrasting salty note makes this flavour one of my favourites from the range.”

Individual Notes

The Vanilla Custard is obviously the primary base here, it’s your usual custard, not quite eggy, but creamy and consistent with a hint of vanilla spice. It’s the base note, which carries through the entire vape, with it’s thick creamy texture and rich flavour.

In true Creme Brulee style there is some caramelised sugar here. Rather than just your straight up sweetened custard, Solomon’s have taken care to make sure there is a light brown sugar note in this mix. (caveat: This may well be part of the caramel)

Light caramel tones also drive through most of the vape, rich and complex, a little more than just caramelised sugar, reminiscent of a caramel sauce.

Salt, I’m not sure if I’m getting a real salt feel at the end of the vape, or if it’s part of one of the concentrates used, but there is a little separation of flavours and contrast against the sweeter notes, that creates a spicy, almost salty finish.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, you’ll instantly notice the Vanilla Custard, it’s light at first, as many custards are, and gradually increases in intensity as the inhale continues. Light creams turn thicker as you progress, and the closer you get to the top of the inhale, the sweeter the vape becomes.

The brown sugar presents itself at the tail end of the inhale, creating a sweeter custard than you’d normally get, and giving it a little moisture.

At the top of the inhale, and moving out through the exhale, that brown sugar crisps up and gets a more caramelised feel, not burnt, but darkened and almost hard candy sweet. At the same time a more complex caramel comes into play too. This seems very dulce de luche, or even a bavarian cream, more complex than a custard, but not overbearing or driving over the main base or vanilla but complimenting it and richening things up.

Toward the end of the exhale and through until the very end, a light saltiness falls over the caramel creating a light salted caramel feel. It’s not completely convincing, as in real salt, which I can understand would be quite difficult to achieve, but it does a great job of mopping up that sweetness, and creating a little complexity via contrast against it.

A hint of salt if you will, carries this blended vanilla custard/caramel (a brulee) through to the finish line.

Final thoughts

I’ve enjoyed this one very much, it’s up there with some of the best custards getting around at the moment, and that light salted finish sets off the contrast nicely.

I really like how the salted caramel was added to a brulee base rather than a simple vanilla custard, it bounces really well off of the sweeter brown sugar and creates a little more drama in the flavour. A richer and deeper flavour than it might have been, which has worked out really well.

No complaints here at all, this is a great flavour that should tick boxes for a lot of people!

Great work guys!

Presentation:

The whole Solomon’s Clouds range has a very professional presentation. I received 60ml Chubby Gorilla bottles, with tamper proof seals and child proof caps. The bottles are dark tinted with black caps and needle tip dispensers.

On the label you have Solomon’ s Clouds and the flavour name prominently displayed front and centre, with matching colour band, and a bunch of other information. PG/VG ratio, bottle size, flavour profile, Lab information, website url, Ingredients and barcode. I noticed that there are no warnings at all on the label besides “This product contains zero nicotine”.

What is on the label, which I really love, is a scale that shows how much juice you have left in the bottle up to one of the inside edges where the label doesn’t quite meet together. A popular spot to hold your bottle up to the light to see how much is left is made that much more useful with a scale that goes through “Refill”, 1/4, “Half”, 3/4, and “Full” stages.
A very cool idea!
