e-Juice Review: Ridgy Didge from Bogan Brews

Welcome back! As you know, over the last week I’ve been taking a look at the updated Bogan Brews range of eliquids, well, the last three to be released anyway!

Today’s is the last of the lot, which is a shame, because I’ve been really getting into them. So without further ado….

Today I’ll be reviewing “Ridgy Didge” from Bogan Brews.

(This eliquid was supplied by Vapoureyes for review. Much love guys!)

Flavour Description

[From the website]

Ridgy Didge rings true its name, with a chewy oatmeal cookie iced with a lemony citrus tinged icing. It’s not sickly sweet either, perfect for those days you’re craving a sweet down the shops.

Perfect paired with a Pilsner or traditional Ale!

The Review

This is a really interesting mix from Bogan Brews, I don’t think I’ve ever seen oatmeal written in the description of an eliquid before! Truth be told, chewy oatmeal cookie, sounds like an ANZAC biscuit, and that’s very much how this flavour comes across, except… with some added lemon icing or meringue!

You love an ANZAC biscuit right? Sure you do, now imagine one covered in lemon icing? You can’t? You’d better grab some of this good stuff then!

Individual Notes

The oatmeal cookie, or ‘ANZAC Biscuit’ note in this flavour is quite a light and underlying flavour. Not overly agressive, it’s just like the description, with a touch of oatmeal, or muesli, held together with a rich caramel which carries across that chewy feel. On the nose, the caramel is really noticeable, it’s sweet sticky and fills the palate really well, while the oatmeal and biscuit notes, tend to fall to the back of the profile, where you really have to hunt for them.

Then there is the lemon icing. I’m not so sure about icing, but it’s tangy and sweet, but to me is more of a lemon meringue profile. Which is quite nice in it’s own right, and is a very pronounced part of the flavour, dominating everything at times and accenting it at others.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, the oatmeal or muesli hits first with a little bit of a wheaty feel, it’s got quite a depth to it, even though it is such a light note. As the inhale continues, it gets stronger, but not as strong as you might expect.

About halfway through the inhale, I notice a hint of lemon wash over the top of it, adding some smooth tang, and brightening things a little as it goes.
At the top of the inhale is where I notice the oatmeal and cookie hit their strongest, both in even measures, and both (Im guessing) designed to be light as to not overpower the vape.

Getting past the top of the inhale, and on the exhale the lemon starts to get stronger, and stronger, now with a bit of a sweet creaminess, very much like a silky meringue flavour. This really does take on quite a lemon meringue profile right through the exhale, getting stronger as it goes, smooth and tangy, and really dominating the rest of the vape. You’ll notice just a smidge of the oatmeal and cookie balancing it out a little bit in the background.

Final thoughts

This is quite the interesting vape, it’s definitely tasty, full of flavour, volumous and really dynamic. I feel like this has quite a depth of flavour, not just something that has been pumped out quickly, the juice heads that created this really have put the work in.

Having said that, I’m finding that I wish the oatmeal and cookie were a little stronger, perhaps with some of that caramel and meringue dialed back a little. It’s a balancing act for sure, but the lemon meringue or icing, does dominate through the exhale, where I would have liked to have seen a little more of that deeper oatmeal cookie flavour.

All in all this is a brilliant flavour, well blended, with a depth like so few others, and a really interesting mix. I’m thinking this will appeal to not only those who like cookie or breakfast type of flavours, but those that love their desserts too, due to the tangy lemon that shifts the profile around quite a bit.

Well done on this one, fantastic flavour!

Where to Buy:

The entire Bogan Brews eliquid range can be purchased directly from the Vapoureyes Online Store, the Vape Traders website for wholesale, as well as any of their many stockists around the country.

Colour:

Light honey tint

Aroma:

Lemon and Cookie

Coil and wick damage:

This hasn’t really done anything to wicks or coils. My wicks have darkened to a honey tint, but that really is the colour of the juice doing that. Disclaimer: I have been changing wicks everyday as I usually do.
This is sweet, sugary sweet, so I’d expect a little gunking after a few days of vaping this one.

PG/VG Ratio:

75VG/25PG

Texture:

Deep oatmeal cookie with a wash of lemon meringue

Steeping:

A short steep might be a good idea with this one.

Presentation:

The bogan has such a unique brand, it’s raw, but polished, with imagery akin to punk rock and a tattoo scene. It’s bold with striking black and white, and brighter in your face colours when he decides to use them.

I received clear 60ml Chubby Gorilla bottles with transluscent caps, child-proof and tamper-proof seals, you can’t get better.

The new labels for the Bogan Brews line, reflect his branding well, with a Pearl background, and black overprint, in scratchy imagery, and close yet well structured spacing between elements. Front and centre, you’ll see the Bogan Brews brand along with the flavour name, with black and white icons of the fruits/flavours that make up the mix.

On the back you get all the information you need. From bottle size, warnings, ingredients, barcode, poison hotline numbers, and best before date, right through to the “Product of New Zealand” line.

Pretty. Bloody. Awesome!

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod/variable wattage mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
