eJuice Review 340: Apple Grape (The Fifth) by GDR Vape

Today I have a juice line for you all that was described to me as Malaysian based, but now trying to get noticed here in Australia.

I don’t know a lot about GDR vape, besides that they are Malaysian, so I do not have much to tell you about the company, but I “can” tell you all about the juice!

So hang on to your seats, heads up, for these next few reviews might be a bit of a rough ride!

Today I’ll be reviewing “Apple Grape” from “the Fifth” range by GDR Vape.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor)

The Review:

Malaysian eliquids are well known as being over-sweetened, with a tonne of cooling agent and punch you with flavour intensity. This range is no different.

“Apple Grape” is a mash of over-flavoured apple, a tonne of sweetener, a brain freezing chill and a Grape that just can’t seem to get noticed among the other overpowering elements.

Individual Notes

The apple here is a sweet apple, not quite a green apple and not quite a red, but a balance of the two. Unfortunately they don’t make for a great pairing as they are so overpowering that they dominate and appear more artificial and chemical tasting than they should.

I barely pick up the Grape here, there is a little on the exhale, a bit of a ribena or a grape juice feel, but it just can’t get any attention through the cooling agent and sweetener.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is all apple with a touch of Grape juice. I wish I could say that it’s a pleasant mix, but it just isn’t working for me. This mix is giving me a chemical hit rather than the flavour it should. Falling very short of the mark, It skips straight past the soapy stage, and jumps right to the overpowered acrid taste.

The sweetener comes in to save the day, riding in with it’s sugary hit, along with it, a tonne of cooling agent. The two quickly set to work overpowering the fruits, so much so that, they mask any nastiness that came before them.

I’m left with a sugary sweet after taste and a throat that chills me to the bone every time I breathe.

Final thoughts

There is a hell of a lot of nope here. Tootle puffers (mouth to lung vapers) might appreciate it for it’s strong flavour, but will probably balk at the amount of sweetener added.

To give you an idea of how much sweetener this juice has, my wicks and coils were black within 3 hours of vaping this juice. About half an hour in, I start noticing a slight burnt note, an hour in it begins to get really noticeable and I’m saturating my wick to avoid it, and 3 hours in I just had to dry burn and rewick.

Cons:

  • Food colouring
  • Too much sweetener
  • Too much cooling agent
  • Over flavoured
  • Pg/vg ratio that just doesn’t seem right.

If you like sweet, this range is for you, with this much sweetener, this can’t be good for you though!

Where to Buy:

GDR vape have their own website, I won’t link you to it though, as I have some real concerns about this range, and my moral compass tells me to not make it easy for people to purchase.

Colour:

Green (yes this juice has food coloring)

Aroma:

Apple

Coil and wick damage:

This will undoubtedly destroy your wicks and gunk your coils within hours. Probably one of the worst cases I’ve seen.

PG/VG Ratio:

This is supposed to be 70%vg/30%pg but instead has the viscosity of water. Something isn’t right here!

Texture:

Sugary Sweet candy

Steeping:

You could, but I doubt it would improve this flavour at all.

Presentation:

Fantastic presentation. This is actually one thing they have gotten right with this liquid. I received 60ml chubby gorilla bottles with childproof caps. The labels are colourful, with all of the information you might need except for the pg/vg ratio. (although that is a pretty big thing to miss!)

Caveat Emptor: These eliquids all contain food coloring also.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.18 AK coil from “Bombers Coils” on a mech mod.
I haven’t tested in anything else, as changing wicks in this 4 times per day is enough mucking about for me.
