eJuice Review 433: Wake N Vape by Vaping Mad

Boy oh boy do I have an interesting flavour for you today! So far we’ve seen a fruit and a dessert profile from Vaping Mad’s range of eliquids, today’s flavour comes from a completely different category, it is one of Vaping Mad’s original and most popular flavours, originally designed for “Mouth to lung” vapers.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Wake N Vape” from Vaping Mad
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

Flavour Description

This is what happens when coffee spills into tobacco and is then whacked into a bit of liquorice. Good morning!

Wake N Vape is perfect for coffee lovers. It’ll knock your socks off.

We’re also told it vapes very nicely alongside your favourite dark spirit!

Inhale: coffee, woody tobacco

Exhale: cream and anise

The Review:

This one is such a polarising flavour! Some will absolutely hate it, but others just may find an all day vape in this one.

Imagine sitting down in your patio after a hard Day’s work, you’ve got a straight single malt in one hand, and your vape in the other. This flavour is one of those that you’d choose on a day like this. Something a little refined, unusual even, a clash of polarising flavours, each being a little offensive, yet blending to create a masterpiece to appreciate with quiet reflection of a busy day.

I’d describe “Wake N Vape” as a slightly bitter Espresso, with highlights of sweet aniseed, a warm hit of smooth woody pipe tobacco, and backnotes of cream and caramel. A thick and flavour-some vape, that demands a refined palate, a connoisseur of sorts.

Individual Notes

The coffee here is very much like an espresso, dark and strong, bitter yet not overly so, perhaps a Ristretto might be a more accurate description.

There is of course a cream here also, my bet is that it’s a sweet, or a whipped cream. It provides a nice thick backnote and thickness, but is still fairly light weight as far as creams go.

Licorice is the taller note in the mix, hitting it’s high, right in the middle of the vape, between the inhale and the exhale. It’s an aniseed type of licorice, clean, but with a slightly smokey finish, and it carries right through until the finish.

The tobacco is smooth and warm, and carries with it a slightly smokey tone, and a pipe tobacco feel, very cavendish. I can’t decide whether it is this tobacco or the aniseed blend that creates a caramel feel to this flavour, but it is there all the same, and is a very welcome note.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I notice the coffee coming through first, it’s a strong espresso, very full flavoured with a slight bitterness to it.

It’s not alone, as it is accompanied by a light yet sharp aniseed brightening it, growing in intensity as the inhale progresses and creating quite a deep flavour profile even very early on in the vape. This blend of aniseed and coffee mix really well, resulting in a rich coffee liqueur feel. The backdrop of espresso and tall point of the aniseed are at such a contrast that Vaping Mad could have left things here, but no, there is more!

As you exhale, the coffee and aniseed fall back, not completely, but just enough to allow a mid-tone woody tobacco to appear, it is warm, slightly smokey and smooth, seamlessly blending with the coffee and aniseed. At the same time, a thicker cream comes into play also providing the perfect backdrop for the coffee, aniseed and tobacco to richen, offering an almost raisin complexity.

This blend continues right through to the end of the exhale, where you’ll finish with a smooth coffee/tobacco/cream that is at times sharpened by the aniseed, and others not.

Final thoughts

A great eliquid for the tobacco and coffee lovers alike! I hadn’t read the description of this juice at all before trying it and can say that it was quite a surprise to find the licorice/aniseed in there. Having said that, it works really well, adding depth and an extra dimension to this flavour.

This is a polarising flavour, and not everyone will like or appreciate it, but those of you who do will love this one.

Be forewarned, “Wake N Vape” will gunk your coils and darken your wicks, and being a very rich flavour, you might find yourself losing the individual flavours after some time vaping it as I did, the flavours will tend to blend together and not be so distinct after a while.

If so, take a break and come back to it once your palate has readjusted, this is a flavour to be enjoyed in short doses, and not thrashed for weeks on end. Or just go crazy and vape it all day every day, who am I to judge! 😀

Where to Buy:

You can purchase this flavour as well as all of their other “Mad Mixes” directly from the Vaping Mad online store!

Colour:

This is very dark, think espresso dark.

Aroma:

Coffee, licorice, and cream

Coil and wick damage:

This will damage wicks and coils quicker than many other flavours, purely because of the coffee and the darkness of the juice.

PG/VG Ratio:

70%VG / 30%PG

Texture:

Thick, creamy, bitter and sweet, this flavour runs the gammut of your senses.

Steeping:

Definitely steep this one. You’ll want to steep it enough for the coffee to round but not so much as to lose the licorice notes.

Presentation:

I received 120ml smokey grey plastic bottles with long pointy tips and leak proof screw caps. The labels are fairly basic, being matt white paper labels, but there is a tonne of awesome information on them, such as “Best By” date, contact information for Vaping Mad, Ingredients, as well as a large Vaping Mad logo and name of the flavour underneath.

I really like these caps, because they seem to not leak very much, unlike other bottles, and the nozzle is small enough to fill a tank or squonk bottle really quickly without giving yourself RSI from having to squeeze too hard!

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
VandyVape Simple EX mod with RDA 0.9ohm running @ 3.8 volts.
