eJuice Review 427: Dune by Outrun Vape

I’ve got the last of the Outrun Vape’s range for you all today. It’s been really interesting seeing what they’ve come up with beyond their original flavours. They have branched out a little, spreading their wings and experimenting with some “not so common” profiles, which I think is fantastic, and they’ve done a really great job representing them in vape form. (something that is not always easy)

As always there have been some standouts, “Nightcall” is a fantastic custard flavour, as is “Unit 01” a nice juicy fruit profile. I think today’s flavour is right up there with those two. Not a dessert or a fruit, but this time, it’s a candy that you’ll sure to love!

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Dune” by Outrun Vape.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor.)

Flavour Description

Dune: the home of the Sandworms. Coincidentally, it’s also the name given to these sour gummy worms, said to be as addictive as the spice.

The Review:

Sour Gummy Worms. It kind of sets an expectation doesn’t it. You’d be thinking of a lip smacking hit of sour, with a gummy note most of the way through, and a sugary finish, no doubt about it, and that is exactly what this is!

A true blue Sour Gummy Worm flavour, full stop. Understandably this would have been quite difficult to get right, most sour flavours are, but Outrun have done an exceptional job with it, even making sure that the gummy notes come through without being drowned out by the sourness of it all.

Individual Notes

The sourness, I can only assume comes from a Malic or a Citric acid. I’m leaning toward the Citric Acid personally, as I do get a bit of that extra bite from this. Not lime, not lemon, but that same citrus feel. It’s a gentle sour, not “warhead” sour, so you’ll be safe taking a big pull of it 😉

The gummy notes. There is no one fruity gummy flavour here, instead it is more of a gummy base. The sort of thing that you’d mix with a fruit in order to make a fruity gummy flavour. I don’t think its really that simple though, as I do notice that I sometimes pick up a few different flavours in here. Sometimes a raspberry, sometimes a grape, sometimes a bit of a rainbow candy. It chops and changes, which works really well, while it is masquerading as an indistinct gummy flavour.
The gumminess behind it is straight up gummy, thick and sticky with a slightly jello base.

Sugar, yep this one will have a little sweetener in it. Not so much to ruin your coils and wicks, but just enough to make sure you know that this is a gummy candy. You couldn’t have an unsweetened gummy candy could you?

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale doesn’t carry much of the flavour, it is more of a lead up to the exhale, and you’ll notice light fruity notes come through, as well as some of the gummy base. It does intensify a little toward the height of the inhale, but you’ll still not get much flavour here.

Over the the exhale, you’ll notice the flavour ramp up really quickly here, from the second you begin exhaling, the gummy notes get the jump on you and you get an instant thickened sweet jelly type of texture. It’s a low down sweetness, very much like flavourless gum, but with a little sweetness added. Flowing on from that, various candy fruit flavours appear, not individually mind you, they seem blended, like a mix of raspberry, strawberry and grape candies all crushed into a mix. With these fruity rainbow candy flavours comes the sourness, not an instant hit, like you might expect, it gradually increases on the exhale, quickly getting up to speed, and hitting it’s peak right in the middle of the exhale. Its not a hot sour, so very much not a “Warhead” sourness, but a more subtle citrus sour that is easily handled but still very effective.
As you continue through the exhale, the sourness becomes even more palatable and starts to get familiar, falling away slightly, to allow some of the sugary sweetness to appear, which flows through until the end of the exhale for a sugary finish.

Final thoughts

Seriously a really good sour flavour. Of course it’s not an over the top sour, which is understandable. Sour vapes can be really artificial, destroy coils and wicks, and generally are not very vapeable. Outrun have done a great job on this, making sure that you can enjoy it all day, but still getting that nice little citrus/sour hit.

I do think that this could have done with a little more sourness. Of course I’m not sure how they could have made it work, but Sour Gummy Worms have that real bright sour hit to them.

On the flipside, I particularly like that they haven’t tried to complicate things too much. It is supposed to be a Sour Gummy Worms, so a pretty simple profile. Another thing that I liked was the addition of the mixed fruits. I can’t be certain exactly what is used, but I suspect a bit of “rainbow candy” may have been used to give the gummy side a little extra flavour, without turning it into a fruit flavour.

All in all I’m pretty happy with this one, the bottle disappeared very quickly! Great job guys!

Presentation:

I love Outrun Vape’s branding. I don’t often approach vendors and offer to do reviews, but I just couldn’t help myself with Outrun. Their branding has a really cool retro/futuristic style with neons and pre millennium film references.
I received black plastic unicorn bottles with child-proof caps, needle tip dispenser, with really cool retro labels. The labels have all of the information you’ll need on them including: PG/VG ratio, juice name, logo, warnings, even an 18+ R Rating!

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
