Augvape Intake MTL RTA Review

Augvape Intake MTL RTA Review

I’m back today with another hardware review for you all, this time it’s a tank, but not just any tank, this one is based off of one of the more popular tanks that have been released over the last few years.

Augvape and Mike Vapes had a hit with their single coil, top airflow Intake RTA a few years ago, due to it’s easy build, superb flavour and leak proof design. Well, they’re back, with not only another version of the Intake, but a smaller, Mouth to Lung version. And it does it soooooo well!

Let’s check out Augvape’s Intake MTL RTA!

Big thanks goes to Augvape, who sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info

Augvape and Mike Vapes have knocked it out of the park again, with this new version of the Intake RTA. It’s a relatively small tank with the Intake’s signature top airflow, 24mm in diameter, and bayonet style top fill cap as well as very similar styling to the original Intake RTA.

As you can see, I’ve got the matt black version, but it also comes in stainless, and gunmetal grey.

The Intake MTL RTA comes with a bunch of accessories to not only keep your tank in perfect order, but also to help fine tune your MTL experience.

Up top is a pretty standard looking 510 drip tip which is removeable so you can put your favourite drip tip on.

You’ll get a separate bubble glass section for the tank which when installed will take your eliquid capacity from a tiny 3ml to a much larger 4.6ml which is brilliant, as well as a bunch of o-rings, spare screws, air restriction plugs, and x2 0.8ohm MTL clapton coils.

The air restriction plugs are an excellent addition, as most MTL vapers will know, simply shrinking your airflow down via the airflow control, doesn’t quite give the most genuine MTL experience, you also need to restrict the airflow further down the line or it just doesn’t feel right. That’s what these restriction plugs are for.
There’s a 1.4mm plug already installed, but you also have a choice among the 1.8mm, 1.6mm, 1.4mm, 1.2mm and 1.0mm plugs.

The Deck

The deck sees the familiar Intake tubes that feed air down from the top airflow to under the coil, they slot into the movable collet in the tank chamber to ensure they’re always lined up correctly. The juice inlets or wick holes are similar to the original Intake in shape, and size proportionately.

But that’s not all, there are a few things that differ from the original, which you could also call improvements. There are 5 different airflow plugs that you can swap between in the new Intake MTL RTA, they range in size from 1.0mm right through to 1.8mm in order to help give a more genuine MTL experience. As you can see from the photos they’re screwed in using a flathead screwdriver straight down to the centre of the deck, and allow a restriction of air coming in and hitting the coil.

Another new feature with the MTL RTA is the reverse threaded phillips head screws to pin your coil down with. This is a neat little addition, even though it feels a little weird tightening them in the opposite direction, it does help stop your coil moving when clamping them down.

Airflow

Another new feature with the Intake MTL tank is the two part airflow control ring. On the one side, you have 5 airflow holes that open up to a cyclops style hole underneath allowing you to open up to 3 holes at a time for a restricted DTL vape, and on the other side a single hole underneath so that you can close things right down to a single airflow hole.

Combined with the airflow control plugs in the deck, this well designed airflow ring will help you get the perfect MTL vape whether you like a loose MTL or really tight MTL experience, the Intake MTL RTA has you covered.

Filling

Filling the Intake MTL RTA is easy, it’s the same as the original Intake RTA. You unscrew the top cap 1/4 turn with it’s bayonet style fixing, remove the cap and you’ll find the 2 large kidney shaped fill holes. You’re not going to have any trouble fitting any juice tip in here because those holes are massive. Fill it up, screw the cap back on and you’re done.

Building

Building on the Intake MTL RTA is quite easy also. Trap your coil legs under the lead clamps and screw them down. Don’t forget, the screws are reverse threaded so turn them the opposite way that you’re used to to tighten. Snip of the excess of the legs, and dry burn that coil to give it some stability and make sure there are no hotspots.

Now with wicking, I tend to rest the cotton on top of the wicking ports on RTA’s and this works quite well with this RTA also. Due to this being a low wattage tank and MTL to boot, you’ll likely get away with dropping your wicks down the wicking ports and it should wick fine without dry hits. I just prefer to wick the way I do for consistancy.

Any Leaks?

The Intake MTL RTA just like the original, is advertised as being leak-free, and I can assure you that it absolutely is. If you’re wicking is too efficient or you’re not vapourising all of the juice in the wick, you might experience a little gurgling, but that is it. The top airflow feature stops any issues with leaking no matter how badly you wick it!!!

Pros:

  • Small size
  • Excellent MTL options
  • Brilliant flavour
  • Can get a really tight MTL draw
  • Excellent build quality

Cons:

  • None

Where to Buy:

You can pick up the Augvape Intake MTL RTA directly through Augvape’s AliExpress store, for around the $25 USD mark, which is a pretty good price for a quality tank such as this.

Conclusion

This is probably one of the best MTL tanks in this price range that I’ve tried. Obviously there are some more expensive MTL tanks out there that would still top my list like the Dvarw, but the Intake MTL RTA really does do a great job offering you all of the options you might need to really dial in your favourite kind of MTL vaping style.

The build quality is great, and the flavour from this tank is as you’d expect, just as phenomenal as the original Intake RTA.

If you’re looking for a MTL tank this year, the Intake MTL RTA is a real contender! Excellent work Augvape and Mike Vapes!
