Smok NFix POD Review

Smok NFix POD Review

There aren’t a lot of niches left in the vape world, specially when it comes to hardware. Beyond creating a whole new way of doing something, you’re no doubt going to be using a variant of something that is already out there.

When it comes to PODs, they’re likely focused on Mouth to lung vaping, well the smaller ones are anyway. The larger POD systems, like the Aegis Boost, Voopoo Vinci, and Drag S/X cater to the lower resistance, higher power crowd.

But what if you like to do lung inhales but still want something small and portable? The Nord and Nord 2 might work for you, even the Novo and definitely the RPM lite. Even these can get a bit bulky to slip into your pocket. So, Smok have come up with something even smaller!

Introducing the Smok Nfix Pod system!

First Impressions

Smok really are starting to pump out the products again lately, this time with a little more quality checking, and I’m serious when I tell you, quite an innovative product range. Well, I’ve got some news for you, this sleek little thing, is another really good offering!

Good, not because it does what it says on the tin. It does do that, but it’s also adaptable to those true Mouth to Lung vapers, with a tiny fix. More on that later…..

I was actually quite impressed as soon as I opened the box on this one.
The features on this little POD device alone, push this to the top of the ‘stick’ vape market, but the quality of this unit, is also really on point.

If I were to design an ultra-portable POD device to carry around, this would be it. Obviously I may style it a little differently, but for all intents and purposes, it’s format would mirror something like this.

From super sleek body styling, to recessed POD, a screen, one button simple operation, auto-draw, and USB Type-C charging, the Nfix does what it needs to do, streamlined and focused, with bells and whistles but not the kitchen sink.

The Main Body

The main body of the device is made from an Alluminium Alloy, who knows what blend of metals, but it’s really lightweight, weighing in at about 32grams in total. It’s form factor is similar to the Uwell Caliburn, being narrow, and long, making it really easy to slip into the pocket and can be concealed quite easily. It has a nice feel in the hand, and the octagonal shape is quite unique.

The finish seems to hold up quite well and has a really nice gloss to it, (I received the rainbow version) and doesn’t scratch up too easily.

From top to bottom, you’ve got the recess where the POD slips into with two large spring activated connection points, a small airflow hole on either side of the body, a 0.69-inch OLED screen on the front, with a single button underneath it, and a USB Type-C charging port on the bottom.

The POD

The PODs for the Nfix are all in one PODs, you can’t replace the 0.8Ω MTL dual coils. It slips into the recess of the main body easily with a little click as well as some hold from the magnets provided. I’m not sure why Smok added magnets if the POD’s clip in anyway, but perhaps it was just for extra strength.

Like many PODs before it, the Nfix Pod is made from a smokey PCTG, they’re pretty sturdy, with two connectors at the bottom, a side fill port covered by a silicone plug, and built in drip tip which is not quite a duck bill, more a continuation of the octagonal device itself in shape. The POD’s look to be 2 piece Pods with a clip on either side holding the 2 pieces together.

The dual 0.8ohm coils put out a good level of flavour, not the best flavour intensity I’ve ever had from a POD vape, but it is up there, having quite a nice, dense flavour.

Airflow

You’d expect something like this to have a fairly tight MTL draw to it, or at least an ultra responsive auto-draw, similar to the Caliburn, and other stick devices, but I’m finding it just outside of the MTL range. The airflow feels more like a really restricted DTL draw to me, requiring a little more lung power to get the auto-draw to fire. This isn’t an issue because the Nfix can fire up to 25 Watts, it was just a surprise is all.

As it turns out, it was a great surprise, as I’ve been comfortably doing restricted DTL inhales without any issues, it is quite good at this I think, and instead of using salts, my freebase nicotine at 6mg instead of my usual 3mg has been doing the trick really well.

Fixing the airflow for MTL vaping

So this really isn’t a tight Mouth to Lung vaping device, it’s a little loose on the airflow, but there is a way to make it work with a tighter draw.
There are two airflow holes on either side of the body, a little tape to cover those up, and you’ve got yourself a really restricted, tight MTL draw.

Cover one, and you have an almost perfect MTL draw, cover both and it’s a nice tight draw, just like a cigarette.

It would have been a good marketing strategy if Smok provided a small silicone plug for these, but a little tape is super easy to stick on anyway…

Battery

You’ll find a 700mah internal battery in the Nfix. Definitely not the largest battery in one of these devices, but also not the smallest. You’ll get a few hours out of it if this is your only device, and you’ll need to recharge often, but if you’re only using it on occasion this will last you quite a while.
This is probably the only real gripe I have with the Nfix, a larger battery really was a necessity, considering that this can go up to 25Watts.

From empty to full, charging via the USB Type-C connection, takes approximately an hour, of which Smok conveniently also give you an estimated time until fully charged on the provided OLED screen whilst charging.

Filling

Filling really is too simple. Remove the POD unplug the silicone cover, fill your POD, replace the silicone cover. Filling is super simple. There is also a ‘minimum’ line marked out on the POD to show you how low you can go on e-liquid before having issues. I’ve let mine virtually run dry however with no problems. Just don’t let it get too empty!

Any Leaks?

None. I actually expected some seepage, or perhaps even some condensation underneath the POD, but there has been nothing, not even the slightest sign of seepage. Given that these PODs are two piece PODs clipped together, I’m not only surprised, but super impressed!

Usage

Using the Nfix is quite straight forward, there is only one button, so you’ll be using this to Power on the device as well as change wattage.

The POD is an auto-firing device, meaning as soon as you begin to inhale on it, it will fire the coil and deliver your vapour. No messing with buttons, just pick it up up and inhale.

There is also a screen on this little POD, which is an absolutely great addition. The screen is an 0.69-inch OLED screen, it’s super basic, but allows you to see how much battery you have left, what wattage you’re set at, your coil’s resistance as well as your puff counter.
Removing the POD will reset the puff counter.

Power on/off : 5x clicks in succession.
Adjust wattage: x3 clicks to put it into wattage edit mode, then every click of the button will push the wattage up by 1 Watt increments. This will climb to 25W at the top and then round robin back to 1W. When you’re happy with the wattage, just leave the screen blinking and it will set the wattage after a few seconds.

Pros:

  • Sleek and concealable size
  • Elegant and stylish
  • Great flavour
  • Well built, great quality
  • Decent battery life
  • Kit comes with x2 PODs
  • USB Type-C charging
  • Decent eliquid capacity (3ml)
  • OLED screen to display battery etc.
  • No leaks
  • Simple operation

Cons:

  • All in one PODs, coil is not changeable
  • No way to get a tight MTL draw from it out of the box, a little tape over the side airholes works a treat though.

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Smok RPM Lite POD Mod right now on sale for $29.99 USD marked down from the usual $37.99 USD directly through the Smoktech online store. This is a lot of device for that price mark.

Conclusion

This is actually a really cool little POD device. While it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, it really does remind me of the Caliburn as far as form factor is concerned, the extra touches are very much welcomed.

For example, the OLED screen included on this is really handy, for not only checking your battery level, but adjusting your Wattage in 1 Watt increments, so that you can get the perfect power setting.

The airflow is quite a nice restricted DTL draw, and will suit those willing to bump their nicotine up a little in order to get a good hit from it. While offering up a more restricted and tighter MTL draw might have been an oversight, you can cover up the airflow holes with your finger or tape to get it to a nice level.

If you’re looking for an ‘out and about’ device, the Smok Nfix will suit your perfectly. It’s sleek, has a decent battery life, and a 3ml POD, making sure you get at least a couple of hours of vaping from it without having to recharge, or refill your POD.

Good job on this one Smok!
