Geekvape Wenax Stylus Review

Geekvape Wenax Stylus Review

Righto you lot, here’s an end of week vape review!

Today, I’ve got something to show you that I’ve been using for the last few weeks. In fact, I’ve probably been over-using it as it’s ‘always’ in my jacket pocket, kept handy for a quick sneaky vape whenever I can.

We all know Geekvape, and we all know their excellent Aegis range as well as their POD mods, but we don’t see much from them as far as smaller POD systems are concerned. Sure, they released the Aegis POD a little while back, which was a pretty good little unit, but that’s about all they’ve released for a long while in the more portable category.

All of that has now changed, with their second foray into the portable POD market and they’ve done wonderfully well!

Lets take a look at the Geekvape Wenax Stylus!

Big thanks goes to Geekvape for sending this through for me to review!

First Impressions

Simple is as simple does, and there is not much to this device at all. On opening the box, you’ll notice not only the actual device in it’s foam insert, but a bunch of accessories also. You might even think that there are so many accessories for such a basic piece of kit!

This is quite a tiny little POD device, cylindrical in shape, almost like a mini mech tube, except this one only runs at 18mm diameter! It’s only 110mm in length too so it fits in the hand quite comfortably and is easy to conceal if you need to!

What a chic look this little guy has too! With its smooth, seamless shape, to it’s clean and rugged finish, it’s a looker!

This champ is light also, only 44grams, you might be forgiven for pocketing it and forgetting that it’s even there!

It’s not just the looks that impress either. With an 1100mah internal battery, a 2ml eliquid capacity, 3 power settings, and 2 vaping options (button and auto-draw) all in this tiny frame, this will be something I’ll likely carry with me and keep handy for the foreseeable future!

The Main Body

As mentioned earlier, the Wenax Stylus is of a tidy little cylindrical design. It has an alluminium alloy unibody chassis with what looks like a smooth powder-coated covering, which is quite rugged and robust.

As you can see, I received the black version, which I think looks rather excellent, accenting it’s minimalist design.

From the top down, you have the recess where the POD pushes in, with it’s 2 terminals and control valve for the auto draw function. The inside looks quite well sealed and also has a slight recess so you wont need to worry too much if you get some seepage or condensation in there.

Further down on each side of the body, you’ll find an extra airflow hole on each side, for a total of x2, approximately 2mm in diameter, plenty of airflow for the draw that this is designed for (mouth to lung or very restricted DTL)

Below these on one side, you’ll find a micro USB port for charging, about 1/3rd of the way down the body, a bit of a strange position to place it, but you’ll see why it has to be put here next.

On the base of the device, Geekvape have also provided a button. This single button operates as a fire button, as well as for turning the device on and off (x5 clicks) and changing power modes (x3 clicks to cycle through).

The POD

The POD is quite an interesting design, carrying through the cylindrical design, it’s round with a flat bottom, and recess for the push in coil to seat.
It looks to be a 2 piece POD, that is clipped together close to the bottom, I’ve had problems with these types of PODs before seeping through the seams, but this has held quite well, with zero seepage, so Geekvape must have used some type of sealing on it to keep things nice and clean.

The POD only holds 2ml which is a little disappointing, I’m finding myself filling it really often. A slightly longer POD with a little larger capacity would have been an easy upgrade, and make a world of difference.

These PODs are pushed into the main body, held there by the two small dimples on the inside of the recess. It can take a little force to get them in there, but you’ll know when it’s seated when you hear and feel that ‘click’.

Up top, and I know this is only a small thing, but Geekvape have been kind enough to give us a standard 510 drip tip connection, so you can put your favourite drip tip on there! Not only that but they’ve also supplied a 2nd type of drip tip in the pack. Fantastic!

Airflow & Coils

Due to the small air holes, you won’t be taking big Direct to Lung hits from this, it’s catered more for those looking for a reasonably tight to very tight airflow and it does this really well.

I’ve found the combination of coils supplied and the position of the airflow holes to be a great way to get the right kind of airflow.

On the one hand the pre-installed G Coil Pod Formula Mesh 0.6ohm coil can be a little on the looser side for Mouth to Lung vaping, you can put a finger over one of the airflow holes and get the airflow a touch tighter, this is almost perfect! This coil is better suited for those who use freebase nicotine and don’t mind a slightly looser MTL draw, or a very restricted DTL inhale.

Geekvape also provide you with a second coil, this one 1.2ohms and designed to offer an even tighter draw. I’ve found that this coil is much better suited to those who like a really tight MTL airflow, great for vaping with Nicotine Salts.

The flavour of both coils is great, the 0.6ohm obviously the winner for flavour due to the mesh, and the lower resistance, and the 1.2ohm lacking a little and better suited to juices that have a huge flavour punch to them. You might even find those types of juices a little lack lustre with this coil, but it is a tight mouth to lung coil, so that’s to be a expected.

The coils can be quite difficult to remove, so Geekvape have provided a special coil removal tool in the pack, the back of a spoon or utensil works well also, and if you’ve got pretty strong finger nails you might not even need any other tools. They can sit in there pretty tight though!

Battery

The Wenax Stylus has an 1100mah battery in it, perhaps not considered a huge battery in general, but on such a small device, it’s quite a feat.
That 1100mah does a fantastic job of keeping you vaping all day long, likely even longer due to the smaller power draw that this style of vaping takes from it.

As mentioned earlier, there is a micro USB port on the side for charging, and from empty to full, you can expect that fully charged green light on the base to light up about 45 minutes in.

Filling

Super simple filling on the Wenax, just pop the Pod out, lift the little silicone plug and fill with your favourite eliquid! The hole provided is large enough to fit any standard needle tip dispenser into with room for air to flush, limiting the chances of any back pressure. Just squeeze your juice in put the silicone plug back in and you’re ready to go.

Any Leaks?

None, nada, zero, I’ve had absolutely no leaks from the Wenax PODs. I do notice a little condensation below the pod whenever I take it off, but that’s expected considering those tiny airflow holes in the side of the device. It’s quite a tight seal between the main body and the POD a little condensation is bound to happen.

Usage

There’s not a lot to the operation of the Wenax Stylus. It has two ways to fire, either with the button on the bottom or by simply sucking on it, and the auto-draw will kick in. The auto-draw works wonderfully well, and is really responsive.

The button on the bottom can also be used for Powering off/on the device (x5 clicks) or to change modes between power output settings of Low=White, Medium=Blue, and High=Green.

The device supplies power depending on the mode as well as which coil is installed.

Here is a quick list of how those power settings are applied

  • Auto (draw) fire = 14/15/16W with 0.6ohm coil
  • Auto (draw) fire = 9/10/11W with 1.2ohm coil
  • Button fire = 16w with 0.6ohm coil / 11W with 1.2ohm coil

Pros:

  • Small and concealable
  • Great simplistic minimalistic design
  • 2 types of firing (button and auto draw)
  • Instant power
  • Auto draw is really responsive
  • Brilliant little carry around device

Cons:

  • Eliquid capacity is only 2ml
  • Not a lot of flavour from the 1.2ohm coil

Where to Buy:

You can purchase the Aegis Boost Plus right now directly through the Geekvape Online store or through any of the many stores that stock their products. It’s priced at approximately $21.90 USD right now, which is an absolute bargain, you can’t pass it up at this price!

Conclusion

I’m really impressed by this little piece of kit, as I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been carrying mine around 24/7 for 2 weeks straight and it’s come in really handy when I can’t lug a large mod around.

With super simple operation, small size and light weight, this would be a fantastic entry level device for a beginner, or even someone who doesn’t want the complexity of a full blown mod and tank. Mouth to Lung vapers are going to love this one, I think it’s got an even better draw than the Uwell Caliburn, and it also has replaceable coils too!

Absolute no brainer, go pick yourself up one of these, it’s a great little POD device!!!

Excellent work Geekvape!
