eLiquid Review 514: Boysenberry Swirl by Frank & Atticus

eLiquid Review 514: Boysenberry Swirl by Frank & Atticus

This week, I’m taking a look at the Frank & Atticus range of eliquids.

These guys hail from just outside Melbourne, Australia, and started in 2018 when they sent out their first flavours for testing.

Since then they’ve grown rapidly and have their e-liquids being sold in every state across Australia, in over 14 separate vape stores, with their distribution growing every day.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Boysenberry Swirl” from Frank & Atticus.
(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor for review.)

The Review

Carrying on from the last tasty review, this one is also a dessert. This is a totally different fruit and totally different type of dessert
but just as smooth and flavoursome as “Apple & Rhubarb Macaron”.

Instead of custard, think cookies and waffles, and instead of apple & rhubarb, think boysenberry and vanilla bean ice cream!

It really is a great combination, thick and rich, a very decadent dessert!

“Boysenberry Swirl” takes sharp fruity berries and blends them with smooth creamy vanilla ice cream, a strong cookie and a tasty waffle background”.

Individual Notes

If you’re like me, you’re likely to not notice the boysenberry much. It is a little on the light side and really only makes it’s presence known in the mid range, surrounded by all of the other dessert and cookie notes.
It’s a sweet but tart berry, washed out a little too much by the rich dessert nuances.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is a solid background note, that carries throughout the vape. It’s silky smooth, thick and creamy, with a classic vanilla note that bolsters this profile and helps to fill your mouth with flavour.

The cookie here is awesome, it comes across very strong, with cookie crumbs for days and combined with the vanilla bean ice cream, really comes across like a chocolate cookie ripple.
Picture a raspberry ripple cake, but instead of raspberry, you have boysenberry, that is really what this entire profile is.

I don’t notice the waffle so much in this, there are light traces of it here or there, but it blends in a lot with the cookie, giving the cookie a lighter, more doughy or batter note.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, I notice the boysenberry/cookie immediately. They are both obviously at a low intensity, the boysenberry much less intense than the cookie. It’s a nice little blend, with low down cookie taking up most of the attention and the Boysenberry and it’s slight tartness and berry profile poking through the cookie to a lesser degree.

As I inhale, vanilla and cream fold into the cookie, thickening things up and creating a fuller mouth feel. It’s here just at the height of the inhale, where most of the notes are at their peak, the combination of Vanilla bean Ice Cream with it’s silky creaminess, the rich darker cookie, and with the boysenberry peeking through the middle.

Only one ingredient is yet to show itself and it does on the start of the exhale. As I exhale, the cookie turns a little doughy, more batter like, still rich and crumbly, except now the waffle joins it, creating a lighter, yet just as rich combination. This all follows through right to the end of the vape, a smooth, silky, rich and decadent creamy dessert, just waiting for you to take a big pull so you can get that boysenberry to peek out from behind the cookie!

Final thoughts

This flavour really does remind me of a ripple cake, just with a little doughy feel in there, you know chocolate cookies, sandwiched together with cream and covered until the cookies soften up, that richness is here in this flavour.

It’s a great flavour, nice and rich, creamy and smooth, however I did find that the boysenberry didn’t stand out a lot. Well, not at all really, unless you really wet your wick and take a rather large deep pull on your vape. Then you’ll pick up on it. It’s probably my only gripe, bumping the percentage of boysenberry in this one would definitely improve things.

Despite the berry being a little on the quiet side, this is still a great flavour, robust and an absolutely satisfying vape!

Great work guys!

Where to Buy:

The Frank & Atticus range of eliquids can be found at many online Australian vape shops, and is stocked at several popular physical stores.

Colour:

Light honey

Aroma:

Cookie / Berry

Coil and wick damage:

Minimal damage to wicks and coils, this is a pretty clean juice for a dessert.

PG/VG Ratio:

70VG/30PG RTV

Texture:

Rich and decadent cookie with sweet berries

Steeping:

This one will definitely benefit from a steep.

Presentation:

Frank & Atticus’s presentation is very nice. I received 60ml Chubby gorilla bottles, tinted grey with black caps. There is a tamper proof seal, and child-proof lid atop the bottle. A nice narrow needle tip dispenser helps get the eliquid where it needs to go.

The labels are very clean and professional, a little classy, with the easy to read black and white, with coloured accents marking the flavour profile.
The usual information can be found on the labels, bottle size, VG/PG ratio, ingredients, warnings, and various icons representing no sale to minors, KESAB and social media accounts.

Test rigs:

Original Haku Cruiser running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
Augvape Intake RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
