What are First Generation Vaporisers?
First generation vaporisers are what seasoned vapers refer to as “cigalikes”.
Form Factor
More often than not, they come in a shape and size that resembles a real cigarette. The similarities even extend to include a glowing tip that lights up when it is used.
Here is a diagram of a type of first generation vaporiser (cigalikes).
There are 3 sections to a cigalike. The battery, the atomizer (coil/burner), and the liquid chamber. Some combine a liquid chamber and atomizer in one, this is refered to as a ‘cartomizer’, and therefore only have 2 sections. The 2 section cigalikes are probably the most common type that are in use today.
As you can see the ‘white’ section of the tube is the battery. These are often sealed units that have the led on the tip built in.
This then screws onto the atomizer section (cartomizer) that contains both the coil/wick and the juice that is vaped.

Recharging
Cigalikes usually come with proprietary connections in order to charge. But typically, the battery will unscrew from the device, and will then be screwed into the charger which is plugged into the wall outlet.
Safety
Cigalikes are as safe as anything else. People usually get into trouble when they do not use the device correctly, or try to use chargers that were not designed for the unit. Always use the charger that was designed for the product. To drive home this statement, please also remember that some batteries are negative charge, and some are positive charge. Failing to use the correct charger will end with a very undesirable result. Usually a battery meltdown and/or a fire as these batteries are too small for the manufacturers to include overcharge protection in their circuits.
