Geekvape Aegis Boost Pro v2 (B100) Review

Geekvape Aegis Boost Pro v2 (B100) Review

Welcome back readers. It’s been a minute since my last review, but I am still here. A few weeks back I received a package from our good friends over at Geekvape and have been putting one of their latest products through it’s paces. The first of this series (the OG Aegis Boost)as many of you know, didn’t impress me much due to leakage and a few other issues, but Geekvape redeemed this flagship device when they released the successive Aegis Boost Pro and then also the Aegis Boost V2(B60) devices, which I found to be some downright impressive pieces of gear.

We’ve now seen the v2 of the OG boost, we’ve also seen a “Pro” version, so what would you expect to come next? Of course it’s the Aegis Boost Pro v2 or B100 for short.

Let’s get stuck into this!

Big thanks goes to Geekvape for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info & Photos

This new iteration of course, takes on all of the familiar styling lines of the original, you really can spot an Aegis device from a mile away, they are so very distinctive.
The signature leather heel is back as is the outer shell exoskeleton with exposed screws and stitched accents.

Before I run through the features, I’d like to point out that the timeline of products released in the Aegis range and ‘Boost’ range in particular are staggered. So, features overflowed from not only the original ‘Pro’ but from the ‘Boost v2’ as well, as it was released before this ‘Pro v2’. The Aegis Pro v2 even looks more like the Aegis v2 than the original v2 with it’s more modern rounder mouthpiece, new airflow control switch, and locking switch on the side.

The differences between the Aegis Boost and the Aegis Boost Pro, were many, while the original ‘Boost’ and ‘Boost v2’ were internal battery and were smaller devices, the ‘Pro’ was an external battery and much larger device, and so is the V2.

The Boost Pro V2 carries over many of the features of the first, with 5w-100w power output, external 18650 battery, USB-C charging, and a 0.96′ colour screen. It does however have a few small changes. The general size is smaller, closer to the Boost v2 than the Boost Pro, a different mouth piece, and the airflow adjustment is identical to the Boost v2 with a sliding adjustment, not a dial adjustment like the original.
Another change that was made was a smaller Pod. The Boost Pro v2 has only a 4.5ml capacity whereas the original Boost Pro, had a 6ml eliquid capacity.

The Body

The body of the Boost Pro v2 is Zinc-Alloy, Leather and silicone, designed to be IP68 rated against dust, water ingress and shock.

From the top down, you have your standard Pod recess with gold plated connectors, a large stepped fire button, 0.96′ colour display, with two smaller adjustment buttons below it and a USB-C charging port directly below those.

Geekvape have also carried two of my favourite features of their range to the Boost Pro v2, namely the A-lock on the side of the device allowing you to quickly lock it for pocket storage, and the rubber base which just feels really nice when placing the device down on a table. It’s a small thing but being able to place it down without scratching tables is a nice little addition and something that’s appreciated.

The POD

The Pod of the Pro is very similar to the latest Boost v2. The design is the same with the rounder mouthpiece, the sliding toggle airflow control, and even the fill port. About the only difference here is the size and that the Boost Pro v2 takes Geekvape’s famed P Series coils, of which they’ve improved to apparently give us 50% more vaping time per coil.

You’ll get two different P Series coils in the pack.

  • P-Series 0.15Ω 70-85W (Preinstalled)
This one is great for those who like a little more power and warmth (and dont mind filling up more often)
  • B-Series 0.4Ω 50-60W
This is great for those who enjoy lower powered setup, to take advantage of a longer lasting battery and fill up less frequently.

Both coils perform extremely well and as expected. In fact these two different coils were an excellent pick by Geekvape.

I do have one issue with the new Pods, they are actually quite small compared to the original Boost Pro, and even smaller than the Boost v2. Coming in at only 4.5ml whilst it’s predecessors have higher capacities of 5ml and 6ml respectively, is a big step backward. Considering that the new P Series coils that ship with this device are power and eliquid hungry coils, that Pod needs filling quite frequently.

Airflow

The airflow has changed since the original. The first version had a sort of wheel/dial on the front which allowed you to adjust the airflow, this new version has a sliding rocker, just as good as the original, but it has been redesigned for a top airflow for much less chance of leakage. You can get quite a range of airflow out of this too, from almost wide open to quite tight. An open MTL you could say.

Filling

Filling is even easer now with the fill port on a more open angle, so that you can fill using even a 120ml gorilla bottle without issues. Wonderful adjustment by Geekvape.

Battery

Being an Aegis Boost Pro (v2) of course it’s designed with an external battery in mind just like the original Pro.
Unfortunately just like the original ‘Pro’, this new v2 also takes an 18650 battery.
With 21700 batteries coming into more usage, I would have liked to see a larger capacity battery in this, or at the very least, be both 21700 and 18650 compatible.

The battery cap is on the bottom of the device, and uses a lift up lever and a threaded lid which I actually like. It can be a little difficult to put back on, but over time it loosens up and becomes easier, plus I like the solid feel that it has over any other type of battery bay cover. You’re just not going to break this, which is exactly what I like about it.

Any Leaks?

Absolutely none.

Usage & Features

The B100 uses the very same chipset as the Boost v2 so you’ll find very much the same features and adjustments, Smart mode, Boosting, Temperature control, Wattage mode, and VPC (variable power control)

Here’s how to adjust the settings:

  • On/Off – 5 clicks of fire button.
  • Adjust wattage – Left & right adjustment buttons.
  • Change mode – 3 Clicks of fire button.
  • Modes available – Smart, Power (Variable wattage), Boosting, Temp control (NI, TI, SS, TCR), VPC (Custom curves).
  • Adjust screen brightness – Power + Up = brighter, Power + down = dimmer

Pros:

  • Great size in the hand
  • Well designed and nice looking device
  • Fast charging
  • Up to 100 watts of power
  • Uses P Series coils (excellent)

Cons:

  • Lots of options and a little difficult to configure settings without the manual
  • Cannot use custom drip tips (Fixed mouthpiece)
  • Pod e-liquid capacity is very small compared to the power that device uses
  • Only 18650 battery, would have liked to have seen 21700

Where to Buy:

As always with Geekvape products, you can pickup the B100 (Aegis Boost Pro v2) via the Geekvape online store, or through most good vape shops that stock Geekvape gear. (which is nearly all of them). It will set you back around $50 USD, which is not a bad price for a quality pocket device.

Conclusion

I have to admit that I am a little on the fence with this one.
On one hand, this is a wonderful device, comfortable, feature packed, leak-proof, easy to use, and provides and excellent vape with great coils.
Unfortunately there a few things that let this release down.

  • A smaller Pod on a device that commands more power, is never a good thing, and let me assure you, if you are running this at 60 watts, you WILL be filling your Pod for every hour of vaping. This is a huge oversight and unfortunately makes this look like a purely aesthetic release instead of a “Version 2”.
I can’t believe that the “Pro v2” actually has a smaller e-liquid capacity than the “Boost v2”.
  • The usage of an 18650 battery, instead of providing for a larger capacity 21700 is a big oversight. There was a good opportunity here to provide compatibility for both 18650 and 21700 batteries, which would have made sense on something that runs at a higher wattage. Again, unfortunately this says to me that this was more of an aesthetic release than offering a more improved device.

Like I said before, this is a great device, and kudos to Geekvape for putting out yet another solid offering, unfortunately this feels like an aesthetic upgrade, not a functional one.

I’m expecting some much bigger things next time guys!!
