Wirice Launcher Tank Review

Wirice Launcher Tank Review

Today’s review is of something that has been out for quite a while now, almost a year, but has been on my radar for just that long. I did try to get in contact with the manufacturer for some more information way back when, but soon after got snowed under with work and never got a chance to follow up.

Boy was I pleased when Vaporstate touched base with me about reviewing the Hellvape Ares 120 mod, and mentioned that they were stocking the Wirice Launcher tank also!

If you’re not familiar with Wirice, they are a bit an offshoot of Hellvape, owned by the same corporates, but treated as an entirely different business, perhaps in an effort to keep product categories separate, who really knows.
Despite the company intricacies, today’s product, the Wirice Launcher Tank, is Wirice’s very first product release, and what an awesome introduction to the industry it is!

Let’s check out Wirice’s Launcher Tank!

Big thanks goes to Vaporstate, who sent this out for the purposes of review!

General Info & Features

Wirice have very much hit it out of the park with their first product release. Even though I’m a little late to the launch party. Almost a year on, and this tank is still getting some good recommendations for not only how well it works but the ingenuity behind it’s coil replacement system.

Featuring a huge 5ml e-liquid capacity (with the bubble glass), this beast sits nicely on most devices, being only 25mm in diameter. This sub-ohm tank doesn’t just attempt to compete with other tanks, it actually does it’s job, and does it exceedingly well.

Up top you’ve got not only 2 huge kidney shaped fill ports under a screw down top cap, but a spring loaded coil insert tube that allows you to change your coil out via the top of the tank, in contrast to what we are used to with other tanks requiring you to remove the bottom section, risking e-liquid spills or worse yet, accidentally unscrewing the entire tank frame. I’ll go into more detail about this later.

The drip tip is small removeable 810 size, you’ll likely not want to change it out though, since it’s got quite a small footprint to other aftermarket drip tips, which would likely look a little strange on top of the small chimney.

The tank section is furnished with a minimum fill level line, and it’s super easy to see where you’re e-liquid levels are at all times, whether you choose to use the 4ml standard Pyrex glass, or the 5ml optional bubble glass.

Down below, Wirice have chosen to go with a pretty standard adjustable airflow ring, with a cyclops airflow hole on each side of the tank, which will offer you a nice range of airflow, it does have some decorative machining on it, which also helps you get a good grip on it for adjustment.

The general aesthetic of this tank is really nice, it has a solid heft and rugged feel to it, it’s a very masculine looking tank that will look great sitting on most devices.

The Coils & How to change them

I’m going to jump into what you’ve likely come here to read up on. The coil replacement system.

Wirice have done something a little different than other tank manufacturers. While most employ a system whereby, you’d remove the bottom section of the tank to replace a coil, the Launcher tank allows you to replace it from the top, essentially mess free.

This is kind of cool, and the implementation of it is quite well done. It works. It works really well.

The basic premise of this system is that you’ll unscrew the top centre mouthpiece section, which quickly shuts off the juice flow to the coil, and detaches, allowing you to tip the coil out without any leakage. Replacing is as simple as dropping a new coil in, and screwing down the centre mouthpiece/coil post which then opens up the juice flow again to your new coil. I’ve done a few coils changes in the 3 weeks that I’ve had this tank and changing out coils has worked effortlessly, and mess free every single time. The system works, big up’s to Wirice for coming out with something a little different.

You’ll get 2 different mesh coils in the kit, they’re not your typical coils, these have some pretty big wicking ports on them, to allow plenty of juice in to make sure your mesh is nice and saturated.

  • 0.15ohm W801 Mesh Coil – rated for 50-70W
This coil is your powerhouse, a lovely wet and dense vape. You can get right up to about the 65 Watt mark before you begin to notice any drying out. This coil seems to last a lot longer than the other too.
  • 0.21ohm W802 Mesh Coil – rated for 40-60W
Good for up to about 50 Watts, this coil suffers from a little dryness at any higher wattage, which directly results in less of a life span than the 0.15 ohm coil.

Filling

Onto filling, and you’ll notice in the above photo that the top cap is completely independent to the centre piece.
Once you’ve removed that cap ring (it has some nice smooth threading by the way), 2 kidney shaped fill ports are revealed.
While that’s a pretty good start, actually filling via these ports can be a little difficult due to the height of the centre coil replacement mechanism. While you can ‘just’ get the tip of your e-liquid bottle into one of the fill ports with the drip tip still installed and get a fill going slowly, it’s much easier if you remove that too, just to make sure you get enough of the bottle in there to fill it at maximum speed. Obviously a 60ml bottle is going to be a lot easier to fill with than a larger 120ml gorilla bottle.

While the filling system is not ideal, it’s not the end of the world either and I can understand why it was done this way, after all you wouldn’t be able to have the top coil replacement mechanism without sacrificing the fill system a little.

Airflow

The airflow is quite generous on the Launcher, you have a large cyclop style airflow hole on each side of the tank, with the airflow controlled and adjustable via the adjustment ring. Adjustment is smooth as silk, with no real restriction to it, but it does stay in place without moving around on it’s own.

You’ll get a pretty good range out of this adjustment too. From a fairly wide open airflow right down to completely closed, it’s even possible to get a Mouth to Lung draw from it, even if the coils aren’t exactly build for low wattage vaping.

Any Leaks?

None, not at all. Which I find quite unusual considering that this is a bottom airflow tank. Usually there is the smallest bit of oversaturation of the wicking, but I have not experienced this with the Launcher tank.
Apparently Wirice have released an update to their coils, so perhaps that is responsible for the zero leakage.

Pros:

  • Great looking tank
  • Excellent airflow range
  • Nice dense and flavourful vape
  • Easy change coil system
  • 5ml Capacity

Cons:

  • Can be a little annoying to fill

Where to Buy:

Where would we be without our Aussie vape stores! You can pick up the Wirice Launcher tank locally from Vaporstate’s online store. They’ve got them listed for the $55 AUD mark, which is an excellent price.

Conclusion

The Wirice Launcher Sub-Ohm tank is not only a little innovative, but is a great solid little unit. Excellent looks, built well, and puts out a nice saturated and dense vape.

It does suffer a little from innovation getting in the way of it’s primary use with the central chimney and drip tip getting in the way when filling. Is it a small price to pay for mess-free coil changes? That’s a very individual thing, so I can’t really give a rating based on that, but personally, I like it, and filling isn’t obstructed too much by it.

Offering two different glass sections is a bonus, as is the airflow adjustment that just simply works.
I have heard other reviewers mention leaking, but Wirice it seems, have updated their coils, and I’ve had zero issues with any leakage what-so-ever during the last 3 weeks of use.

All in all, I’m giving the Wirice Launcher a pretty good rating, it’s treated me well, and has been an excellent tank that has been used day in and day out.

Great work on your first gig Wirice, I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
