Voopoo Drag X Plus Professional Reviewed

Voopoo Drag X Plus Professional Reviewed

Welcome back you lot. I was a little confused about this device, confused because Voopoo released a very similar version of this not that long ago, and as far as I can tell, there are only a few minor differences.

Having said that, I do like these few changes, and it’s always good to see a company go above and beyond in not only improving their products, but constantly evolving as the need arises.

Let’s take a look at Voopoo’s Drag X Plus Professional mod!

Big thanks goes to Voopoo for sending this directly through to me for review!

General Info & Photos

The Drag X Plus Professional is only a stone’s throw away of being exactly the same as their previous Drag X Plus release. As an aside though, the kit has a little more updated, specifically in regard to their newer v2.0 TPP tank being released with it, but today I’m just looking at the mod, that I was sent through.

Running through the specifications, there really only is the one standout feature that makes this differ from the previous “Plus” version, the chipset. The Drag X Plus had the Gene Fan 2.0 chipset onboard, but this newer “Professional” release has an updated version of it. Where previously you were limited to a 4.2 Volt maximum output, the newer Professional version allows output to 8.5 Volts, a power boost, which basically means, there is less chance of feeling any drop of output power as your battery drains.

That really is the only difference. You still have the exact same 5-100W output, Smart/RBA modes, 21700/18650 battery usage, 2A type C charging, 510 connection, swinging door battery bay with adapter and of course all of the other features that I listed in my original Drag X Plus review.

The Body

The aesthetics have changed little, the main body is still made from a zinc-alloy, with a leather insert. The buttons and display are all the same, the size and shape are all identical. The only real difference is the now optional black frame, and the styling of the embossing on the leather heel. It’s now a little deeper, with a sharper 3 dimensional look to it.
The black frame is sprayed on from what I can see from the wear marks on mine after using it for a week or so, which is a little disappointing, I would have thought a longer lasting paint might have been used. This is a sample version however, so the final version may have a more robust finish to it.

Just like the Drag X Plus, from top to bottom you have a spring loaded, gold plated 510 connection, a large round fire button with two smaller operational buttons on the side, a 0.96 inch TFT screen, USB Type C Charge port, and the very same swinging battery door at the base.

Battery

The Drag X Plus Professional takes 2 different types of batteries, a 21700 natively, and a single 18650 with the provided adapter. Just like the original Plus version, the battery bay door slide a slide and swing movement which is super quick to open and closes firmly with no foreseeable issues.

You wouldn’t normally charge your device with a battery in it, (you should be using an external charger) but for convenience, there is a USB Type C charge port, that allows 5V 2A charging to get you out of trouble. Just like the “Plus” there is no pass-through charging however, so you’ll need to take it off of charge to take a vape.

Usage & Features

I won’t go into this detail for this review because the “Professional” edition is exactly the same as the “Plus” as far as operations is concerned. The screens are the same, and all of the features are too.

Even the fact that you cannot lock wattage only is the same as the previous model, which is a bit of a shame.

Pros:

  • Consistent vape no matter where you battery level is at
  • Up to 100 Watts of power
  • USB Type C charging 2A
  • 18650 or 21700 batteries are compatible
  • Vibrant TFT screen
  • Intuitive Smart mode
  • Gene Fan 2.0 chipset

Cons:

  • Cannot lock wattage only
  • I’ve experienced some paint fade (rubbing off with use) I have the sample version however, this might change for the retail version.

Where to Buy:

The Drag X Plus Professional is still in pre-order so you’ll need to jump on the Voopoo website to take a look and order, you can do so on the Voopoo Online Store. They are going to retail for around the $40 USD mark for just the device, and around $60 USD for the complete kit with TPP 2.0 tank.

Conclusion

While the professional edition doesn’t give you a lot more than the original Drag X Plus, it is an improvement and a good one at that. Obviously, improvement enough to warrant Voopoo to release it as a special edition.
It’s great to see that Voopoo consider the 8.5v output as a move in the right direction, which it absolutely is, and makes a huge difference in countering battery sag, to ensure you have the same quality vape you would with a fresh battery all the way through to empty.

I quite like the small change to the aesthetics too, the black frame looks great, and the new embossing on the heel, offers a more luxury feel to the whole thing.

To the big question. Should you rush out and buy it if you already have the Drag X Plus? Probably not. It has all of the same features as the original. However, if you’re battery sag toward the lower end of your battery drain is giving you the shits, this is definitely a step up and will ease your frustration 100%.

All in all an excellent upgrade, but not one that is really necessary unless you suffer from a lack lustre vape as your battery drains.

Thankyou for the update Voopoo, every small improvement is appreciated!
